carbonated water vs diet soda

i read in a health magazine that it's a misconception that water bloats you and you should drink water instead of diuretics like soda and diet soda...

i have been wanting to quit my diet soda habit anyway, but the only reason i drink it (besides the flavor) is because of the carbonation. i constantly have mucous running down the back of my throat and i drink the carbonated stuff to help get rid of it.

but what if i switched to carbonated flavored water like the Aquafina line of sparkling water? would it be pretty much the same as diet soda?

I'm not familiar with aquafina, but I drink club soda and sparkling water all the time. Don't see how its bad fro you since its just carbonated water & it makes me feel like I'm drinking soda or a fancy drink. I like to add a fresh lemon or lime slice. I stay away from any flavored carbonated drinks though.

Selter is one of my favorite drinks.

Do you eat milk products? I thought I heard that mucous was associated with that.

Try Clearly Canadian! That stuff is great if you can find it!

no i'm lactose intolerant. i don't know what it is, because it had been going on for a long time before allergy season (allergies sure didnt help though). my diet is pretty much the same every day but i'd had the mucous thing when my diet was completely different also, so i really don't know what it is... its just annoying more than anything else, because my job has had to get different pan sprays especially for me (i work in a bakery) because the kind they use just clog up my throat and sinuses and make me sick..arrg

unfortunately noone near me carries Clearly Canadian or i'd try it

I actually broke my addiction to carbonated sodas with this very same logic!

I am now a happy drinker of Blue Sky's lemon seltzer. And, yes, it is tons better than diet soda. All it has in it is filtered water and lemon!! No sugar, sweeteners, calories, or junk....And it satisfies that soda craving for me.

After realizing how horrible diet sodas are for the body, I had to quit them...phosphates (which take calcium out of the bones), aspartame (don't get me started) and all the other crap...i can't believe i used to drink them!!!! :)

Basically, if it has high fructose corn syrup in it or fake sugar (worth 0 calories) it's bad for you. Plain old sugar is slightly better, but still unhealthy because processed sugar is like negative nutrition. Not only does it not add anything of nutritional value, it takes nutrients away from you.

If it's just carbonated water, plain or with natural flavors - such as the aforementioned lemon seltzer - then it's fine.

Something I do is take plain or lemon flavored seltzer and add some juice.  It's almost like you're drinking a soft drink and it's much more refreshing.
