Christmas dinner

It's my husband's and my first christmas away from our family, just the two of us (since we just moved) and I have no idea what to make for christmas dinner. Our family is huge, so it was always food for a multitude, so.

Any suggestions? What are you guys having?

VeganSapien: where did you find the recipe for the Chocolate Almond Kahlua Cake?  I LOVE Kahlua :)>>>

DalVeg,

Its in the cookbook "ExtraVeganZa" by Laura Matthias. It has Kahlua Frosting, too. I've never made it before, but have always drooled over the recipe. Now, I am finally going to whip it up...yummm...

We alas, are not doing Indian food. We've decided on  sushi (hubs is a trained sushi chef *swoon*) and miso soup, and we shall invent vegan gluten free tempura!

I thought they used rice flour for tempura. Isn't that gluten-free? (I like to know these things, in case I send my grandma something w/ gluten accidentally)

We do simple for Christmas. I want to spend time playing with everyone's toys and enjoying the company, so we're going simple this year.
Giant stuffed potatoes.

Bowls of goodies for everyone to decide what they want on their taters.  Everything from vegan sausage, grilled onions and cheese, to mushroom, peppers and non-veggie things for the carnivores who come to visit.

There's a tamale factory/restaurant w/in walking distance of my house, and another across the street from my work. I'm too lazy to make them when someone else does it better. I'd love to try sometime, though.

we didn't end up doing sushi, lol but the mixes we saw at the Japanese store we frequent all used wheat flour as a base.

We had

French Onion soup with gf toasts and swiss uncheese

Roasted Acorn squash stuffed with pecan and cranberry wild rice blend

Balsamic glazed green beans and mushrooms

Spiced apples and pears with crystallized ginger and home made pralines.

i'll be bringing some vegan dishes to share. I'm thinking of doing roasted asparagus or green beans (possibly a casserole), stuffed mushrooms and a warm quinoa salad...then xmas day dinner the asparagus or green bean, whatever I didn't do on Eve, a salad with vegan ranch and some kind of tempeh.

VeganSapien: where do you get your vegan zuppa toscana recipe? I just tried making that and it was gross and flavorless, but i want to try it again.

are you crazy? LOL the recipe is here on VW, made it countless times, read my reviews, and it is phenomenal!!! not low fat/ cal by any means but freakin fantastic!
