Granitas?
I was watching a BBC cooking show in which a lady was doing "easy" Indian cooking. She made a granita (slush dessert) using pomegranate juice from a bottle, melon, and coconut. She mashed the melon into the juice and put it in the freezer until it had reached a slushy consistency, then served with pomegranate pips, a splash of rich coconut milk and some almonds on top.
I am playing with the idea, since pomegranate juice in bottles isn't available here (and would be a pain to make your own without one of those fantastic but prohibitively-priced juicers). What say the vegwebbers to tomato juice slush with bits of orange? Would the acid curdle the coconut milk? (I know it's not "real" milk, but still). Maybe sub bits of apple or pear for the melon.
I'm trying to think of what sort of seasonal fruits could be used...Watermelon, certainly. But the tomato idea had occurred to me first.
Ideas on the "tomato slush"-coconut milk combo??
I think I'd go for the watermelon, or maybe pineapple. Tomato seems to me to always go better with savoury things - I even drink tomato juice with a splash of Worcestershire sauce :) Also, texture-wise, watermelon might be closer to the original...
I agree on the watermelon. I tried this recipe. Easy and refreshing.
You may want to freeze any you don't drink right away as mine tasted funny by the end of the week. Fabulous freshly made though.

I'm not sure about tomato coconut but I've had a bloody mary granita that was tasty. I've also had a tasty espresso granita.
Melons aren't available all yr round here, our markets are very much seasonal. I might try orange juice with pear or apple...but I still think I might go somewhere with the tomato. I wish I had one of those juicers, but ye gads they're expensive.
Ooo Maybe do a tropical one... With pineapple, orange and coconut... *mmm*
