I think I am so in love because after the subtle, creamy, rich flavors...I FEEL BETTER!!!! I ate a load of beans for supper tonight and I was tired sitting down, but after wolfing the beans I started to feel clear headed and got a second wind (no pun intended).
I love beans I am IN LOVE with beans. I can't stop eating them or talking about them. I dream of them. I get kind of excited when I open the can or run my fingers through dried ones.
I guess I have a rather small and shallow life...
passion is no small or shallow matter and food is no small or shallow matter so being passionate about food is wonderful in my book. I love love love beans too! :)
no, me too. Tonight for dinner I just opened a can of beans...I meant to use them as an INGREDIENT in something....but I just eat them...all of them....all by themselves and it was very yummy. ;D
i love chickpeas.
if chickpea was a man, he'd make the best husband ever.

I'm glad that I am not the only one ::)
i have a slow cooking crockpot just full of homemade pinto beans waiting for me..Ill bet the house is going to smell good....lots of garlic and cumin
You're not alone. We love them too! Beans are so versatile -- I sent a black bean/onion/red pepper/garlic quesadilla to preschool with my little one today and she gobbled it up...I'm sure the other kids were jealous (they were eating greasy, tasteless cheese quesadillas), lol! ;)
Then we had a red bean, black bean, sauteed onion/red pepper/celery and rice concoction for supper -- it was tasty and I gorged myself with 3 servings.
So, yeah, the bean is a pretty amazing food.
Another bean lover here! LadyDragonfly, I was going through my recipe box, and when I saw a dish called Romanian Mashed Beans, I thought of you. Have you tried this? It's really simple and tasty and goes great with dishes like potatoes and cabbage (colcannon/bubble & squeak)--perfect fall/winter food for the upcoming months. (I'm sure it'd be great as a dip, too, with a nice crusty bread.) Here's a link in case you're interested:

I've always loved beans and a few months ago, the kidney bean became the object of my affections. I wrote a poem about it. So, here goes....
Ode to the Kidney Bean
Kidney beans, Kidney beans,
How I love my kidney beans.
By themselves or over rice,
Oooh, those kidney beans taste nice!
;D
LadyDragonfly, I love how obsessed you are with beans. I saw the title of the thread, and just cracked up.
On the bean note, we had black bean tacos for dinner tonight--mmm, mmm! I think black beans are my favorite bean, though I've never met a bean I didn't like ;)
OMG!!!!! and I adore cornmeal mush!
OMG!!!!! and I adore cornmeal mush!
I've actually never had it with cornmeal mush, although I did see that in the recipe serving suggestions. You'll have to post back if you try that. Now, let me ask you this. When I was little, my dad ate fried cornmeal mush with syrup. Is cornmeal mush any different from today's polenta? Are we just calling it polenta now because that seems fancier?

I 'm not sure. Where I grew up cornmeal mush was dry cornbred mushed up with milk and butter and heated. My grandma used to make it for a simple breakfast.
I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff. "Polenta" is the Italian word for it, and of course it does sound a tiny bit classier on a restaurant menu than "mush!" Or they could use the Moldavian word, "mamaliga"...same stuff, but it might make Spanish speakers laugh because it sounds like "mom's pick up" (as in picking up guys).
Grits however are ground not as fine. I buy "polenta" here when I can't get the regular grits but it doesn't cook up the same. Mush is more cohesive and better for frying when cold.

Oh la la la! Will you invite us to the wedding??
I love beans too! They are so versitile! ;)
I think my love of beans is more recent that most of yours. but that ok, because I love them too! I haven't done dried beans yet, but that's a project for this weekend. my first time... I'm very excited.
LadyD, you make me laugh. I remember many years ago when you first posted your cheese sauce mix & asked us to try it. You said that it was so good it made you swoon. I laughed so hard when I read that & knew I had to try this stuff. And yes, it does have a swooning effect!
;D
I love beans, too. Especially in my little pressure cooker that is so nice & small that it comes to temp & stays at high pressure easier than my large one.
However, I have yet to master really good refried beans. Mine are good, but not as good as the local Mexican restaurant.

Thanks, yabbitgirl! I was thinking they were pretty much the same from what I remembered. I'll have to try those Romanian Mashed Beans with polenta/cornmeal mush next time. I just picked up some instant grits at the store the other day. I've made polenta a bunch, but I've never made grits. Do you happen to have any suggestions for the grits? I was thinking of maybe making up some of LadyDragonfly's uncheese sauce and mixing that in for some cheezy grits. Thanks!
