Munchies anyone?

Does anyone here ever get the munchies? What do you eat when you get these cravings?  :) Just curious!

Munchies?  I love potato chips but they don't love me.  I'd eat a whole bag if I could.  If I want to eat healthy though, I take a handful of walnuts or some Terra chips made of vegetables.  I also like Pirate's Booty.

I suppose it depends on which kind of munchies you're referring to...  ;D

this thread could get hilarious.  or maybe I'm the only one with my mind in the wrong place.

I tend to slice up a baby red potato or two, sprinkle with seasonings (optional-toss with a bit of oil and vinegar first), and bake until fry-like.  satisfies most salty cravings.

for sweet cravings, I've been having these shea-esque oatmeal frenzies where I just cook up some oats, and add whatever sounds good (molasses, maple syrup, pumpkin, applesauce...)

Oh carrot - I think you just might have gotten me off those darn potato chips.  That sounds wonderful.  :)

glad I could help.  :)  I used to be quite the chip fiend myself, but I'm hardly tempted by them if I have my own taters to cook.
they're so versatile--so many seasoning options, they have the ability to become fries or chips based on how you cut them, and do not necessarily require additional fat to be delicious.

There's a recipe for carrot fries on here that I also really enjoy.

oh yeah!  that reminds me....when in a munching zone, I can pretty much go to town on raw carrots.  I'll dip them in whatever flavor I'm craving:  hummus for salty, peanut butter for sweet, and mustard for, um, tangy?

i always get cravings for salty things. like pringles. i don't cook with salt really and only crave it once in a while. i also like soda when i'm stressed out!! (not really a munchie, but...). cupcakes/cookies are also good but take more effort to put together.

tanglical but related to munchies vent.

speaking of munchies, i found some, uh, not super hard core drugs on the bus going to school this morning. being the good citizen i am, i reported them to the driver who was like "well why don't you keep them  :o. i then took the stuff to the campus police, who told me "they didn't want to deal with it"  :o and that they had to call a "real cop" to deal with it. ??? so 40 minutes of waiting for "real cop" just ticked me off because he comes in and was like, what, you didn't bring wrappers?  >:( and then told me i could have just tossed it in the trash  ???

(what a great use of smilies there bp  8))

really?! geez...

and you ARE a good citizen  :-X

Lay's Kettle Cooked Mesquite BBQ chips.  Whenever I see them I simply have to buy them just to have quickly for when I get hungry.

Lately warm, comforting foods like homemade chili and fresh-baked bread and muffins (especially corn muffins!) with hot coffee or tea.... I think this week I will start my pumpkin baking spree-- pies, breads, muffins and freeze any surplus  :D

Darn those potato chips! I've been a bit stressed lately, so I've been going to town on potato chips  :'( Carrot, I think you might have saved me, though. Your idea of homemade baked fries sounds yummy.

Aside from the occasional craving for industrial quantities of dark chocolate, my munchies go for a cup of tea and "a little something." Lately the little something needs to be crunchy but not calorie-ridden so I am telling myself that Shelly Senbei Want-Want Crackers (I love the name) are a "light" alternative. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!  ;D

When I'm out and about, a decaf cappuchino does it for me.

dips, crackers, chips, my onion flavored potato chips, pineapple, oranges, fruit juices, cookies, a piece of cake (this is when I'm really craving sugar only).

I am trying to train myself that veggies w/ hummus is the snack for me.  Its not always successful but I now have a large container in my desk holding an assortment of nuts with garlic sesame sticks.  All but the peanuts are unsalted so the garlic is going to overpower everything.  I cant wait to munch on that!

Good munchies from the fridge at home not at work though?  Soy cheese, Soy Delicious Purely Decadent, pickles, green olives, marinated mushrooms or cupcakes.

Its a really good thing I'm eating my carrots right now, because this made me hungry darn it! hehe  And yes, Baypuppy, you are a really good person!

I was recently addicted to potato chips but since I have been totally vegan I have been rethinking my food choices so now it has been celery with the BEST ranch dip that was in a Vegetarian Times.  Or walnuts or sunspire chocolate chips if I am really naughty.

it's good that you all understand.. most of my friends are like, why would you do that?

AHH! I had a similiar experience!  I was walking out of a gas station with my friend and she looked down and there was a bag of ...probably the same not so hardcore drugs ...on the ground, we went back inside and told the lady behind the counter and she looked at us like we were crazy, asked us why we didn't take it, then went outside and picked it up and put it in her pocket.  We kind of just left after that, but I thought that was insane. Everyone that we told afterwards asked us why we didn't just take it....I like to think it's because I'm not an idiot

And I like chips. :)

Carrot sticks, or cucumber sliced and salted.  Also, anything that isn't moving and is heavily salted.  ;D

Grapes, at the start of the season here...I spent many a Sept evening in VW chat, speed-loading grapes and typing at the same time...sticky keyboard!

Hummus! I eat so much hummus and pita bread that it is just ridiculous. Hmm... I love potato chips too, but I never let myself buy them. When I was more organized and less stressed out all the time, I used to buy tons of fruit and cut it up and put it into little containers in the fridge. When I got snacky, I would just grab a container of fruit. I should really get back into that... For now, it is just hummus, hummus, and more hummus!

That's crazy!  I can't believe the campus police acted like that.  Of course if you had been caught with that not so hardcore drug, the real cops nor the campus police wouldn't have just thrown it out and sent you on your way.  Why would they bust anyone at all then if that is their attitude?
Anyway, as for munchies, it usually depends on what I have in the house.  I like edamame with salt but if I need something crunchy I love me some bbq corn nuts (not sure if they are vegan)
