Non cutting recipes?
Sooo...I was making a vegan version of this grrreat veggie lasagna http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sauceless-Garden-Lasagna/Detail.aspx and rather than chopping, decided to practice chiffonading my basil. I was sooo enthusiastic about it that I chopped off a chunk of my finger (I have a pic, but thought it might be too gross to post) and had to go to the ER and have spent the last week with a bulky bandage on my hand. :'(
Enough of the sob story, now I'm a big dork and too scared to cut veggies (although a friend pointed out that I already took off the part that has high odds of getting cut. I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of things, but any recipes for things that don't require cutting anything? I've been doing lots of baking this week..... :-\
Incidentally, the recipe was for a sauceless lasagna, but now I'm calling it Fingerless Lasagna. :D
You might think about trying some cut-resistant gloves like butchers use:

Sorry for the very un-vegan picture.
For soft things (spinach, strawberries, lettuce, peppers etc) you could get plastic knives... I've seen them for fruits and veggies, they're supposed to keep them from turning brown, but I'd also bet it won't chop through your finger unless you get REALLY determined.
I sliced my finger down to the bone with a box cutter at work once... I had to go to the ER and get stitches. The scar still looks pretty ugly, and I was a complete wreck because I've never had an injury before... ever! It's taken me MONTHS to get comfortable opening boxes with one of those things again. For a long time I just used big, huge, not-very-sharp scissors to cut the tape open.
;D
i like the pictures, too.
i guess i am a gross person.
I always get a little too close with a knife, but usually it would wind up nicking a fingernail
Hm... ok computer, I wasn't done with that post...
Anyway, once I finally cut my finger. I cut the teeniest piece off the end, but the problem was I never found the piece I cut off! ... It went straight into the salsa :P
And then once I was an idiot, cut a carrot lengthwise while holding it in my hand. My knives are usually pretty dull, but my bf always sharpens the knives before I use them (a guy thing?)... and I got a really smooth, deep cut on the side of the first knuckle. It takes so long for those kinds of cuts to heal... he paid for it though, since he had to cut the rest of the veggies!
