Unnamed-omnipotent-entity-of-indecriminate-orgin-who-may-or-may-not-exist-depending-on-what-you-may-or-may-not-believe forbid!....This thread topic may have been covered before! lol! (Am I PC enough for vegweb?? I'm not sure.) ::)
My parents are visiting me for Thanksgiving, and I'm cooking the whole shabang. I'm gonna be "nice" and buy a tiny bit of turkey meat for them, but I want to present them with alternatives as well. I have all the sides basically planned. I'm looking for a really good tofu (or whatever) "turkey" that I can BUY. I'll be doing so much cooking, I don't think I'll have time to make one from scratch.
What's your favorite pre-made, fake turkey that my omni parents might like??
Your ambiguity offends me.

HAHA! ;D
I know, I know, your question was about fake turkeys, but I just have to say something about the little snippet of the animal turkey in your post. I know that having an animal would be nice from an omnis point of view, but! Youre the host, and you're vegan! I think that that constitutes enough reason to not have to buy animals. Maybe your parents wouldn't agree... hah, but if it makes you rather uncomfortable buying animals, just remember, you dont HAVE to. I'm sure there will be plenty food for your parents to fill up on!
Good luck with the tofurkey!
I know I don't HAVE to buy a real turkey. I went back and forth on this one when they told me they were coming. I would defenitely like to avoid dead animal bits....
In a sense, I decided to compromise by not buying anything very big. I figure if I get a very small bit of turkey (not a whole dead bird), that it would be easier for me to deal with the cleanup, etc. With boyfriend(s), I've been not making a big deal about them eating meat around me, even at my own house. This will be the first time I've cooked meat since going veg, though.
I'm uncomfortable, it's true. :-\
I did promise them dead animal bits....argh.
Thanks for the link, Tofuttibreak!
Yeah, it looks like some people loved it and some people hated it. I think it would be wise to do the recipe testing thing...The last thing I want to do is make them think that veg*n food is gross. I've cooked a vegan meal for them before, and it went over really well. It's just that this is Thanksgiving....
BTW - One of the recipes I'll be "testing" before I make it for them is the coolio-looking cranberry sauce molds in the last issue of Vegetarian times! They are vegan, if anyone's interested.
Has anyone tried the faux turkey that Whole Foods makes?? It looks amazing!

I'm thinking I should get either this or the Quorn roast....hmmm
i had tofurkey once. it was ok, but a little too tough for me. dense. that is what is was, too dense. it was ok though. i don't think quorn is vegan. oh wait, you aren't anyway, right? nevermind...
ok, i will :-X
