protein powder
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any recommendations. I'm looking for a good protein drink mix powder. I'm going to be stepping up the ol' fitness routine and would like to find something I could easily mix up to drink after a workout. My husband uses a whey based powder, obviously I don't want that, but it does taste good, mixes easily, and is high in protein and lots of vitamins & minerals.
I don't want to have to use the blender every morning, I like just being able to mix the powder & water with some ice in a bottle. It waould be easiest if I could pick it up at Whole foods while I'm there, but if something is really worth it I'll do the mail order thing. I'd prefer if it had organic ingredients and if it wasn't soy because I feel like I get enough soy already (but I can bend on that one).
So far I've tried Nature's Harvest Hemp powder, which is ok, but doesn't mix well and I prefer it stirred into oatmeal. This morning I tried Nature's Way Alive! which looked very healthy, but tasted so gross I dumped most of it out!!! :P
So does anyone have recommendations? What do all of you like?
;D Not wonderful, as in I have to force myself to choke it down? Or not wonderful as in it doesn't taste as good as icecream? It does look very healthy....
I'm telling you that Alive! stuff was really gross.
I agree with you on the hemp powder, lisaanddini - it's pretty wretched as a drink. Sometimes I'll add it to smoothies or oatmeal but it's so gritty :-\
I've tried vanilla rice protein powder - I bought it at WF but I've also seen it at Vitamin Shoppe. It doesn't mix all that great with water (not as good as whey powder does) but if you shake it good and drink it really fast, you can do okay. It's really good stirred into oatmeal, though. Plus it's a nice alternative to soy powder.
yeah, mdvegan, maybe I will try a bunch of kinds first.
veggeroni, what brand of rice powder did you like?

Nutribiotic brand:

It's much cheaper at Vitamin Shoppe...I think I paid $19.99 at WF for a 21-oz container, and Vitamin Shoppe has that size for $11.59! :o
Thanks. I came across this brand when I did an internet search too. I think I may try it.
I use GNC's soy protein powder and a soy/rice/veg. "High Energy Blend" by Spirutene (I think...) Both of those mix quite well - I make a post-workout smoothie with the GNC one, and add the other to my oatmeal in the mornings.
