I keep hearing about raw eating and i was wondering if anyone can tell me about this new eating. It sounds interesting and healthy. Thanks guys for answering my many questions! Also are there any raw recipe suggestions there aren't many in the section in vegweb.
It's an offshoot of veganism, typically, where one only eats foods that have not been heated over 112-116 degrees. The idea is that your food gets less nutritious as it's cooked at hotter temperatures and/or reheated.
So, mainly, raw foods- uncooked or very lightly steamed.
It's pretty difficult to do without a juicer, dehydrator, food processor, and a few other kitchen essentials, at least in my opinion. My friend is a raw foodist/vegan for a few months then has a "lapse" with a Snickers bar and some chips. Hey, at least she's trying. For me, personally, I do it as a detox of sorts for a few days and at the end of the each day am only really about 90-95% raw. Raw recipes are some of the tastiest things I've ever eaten though!
My roommate is an on and off raw foodist (more off than on because she's omni during the breaks). She has a dehydrator in which she makes these delicious coconut macaroons. It seems to be uber-healthy. No animal products. Though variety of meal can be a struggle for busy city folk. If I lived on a farm and grew my own produce, I'd have no trouble eating raw.

what are your favorite recipes; i am looking for some tasty foods? I have a blender and food processor.
If you're interested try the following website:

Her book is pretty good.
I have recipes from my friend, mainly, who got them from a few different raw recipe books, one of which (that she suggested I buy, but I don't have the spare $30 laying around atm) called RawVolution.
I've made tabouli, couscous, tacos, kale salad, frisee salad, and mostly I drink green smoothies, which I read about in 12 Steps to Raw: How to End your Addiction to Cooked Foods.
I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of how to put a recipe on here as the raw recipes I have are from my friend's mouth to my ear, put on paper, no specific measurements-sorry! I am sure you could find recipes on the internet!
welcome to more suggestions and ideas cause :o there is a lot of recipes out there i wouldn't know where to start
thanks meggs for the internet idea and everyone for the book suggestions

And I recommend 12 Steps to Raw before you start. It will give you background on why raw is important to those who believe in it. Or, at least research on the internet. There are more deficiencies in a raw vegan diet than a vegan one, or so it's been reported.

Hey do you think you could talk her into giving us that recipe? ;)
I have a book called Raw Food Real World and it seems pretty popular. There is a lot of information in there and a bunch of recipes. As some others have mentioned, you do need a lot of equipment and ingredients that you wouldn't have lying around your kitchen. It's a huge eye opener though. Even reading the book makes you want to adopt a healthier lifestyle in many ways, not just eating raw.
If you can find a good raw restaurant, it will turn you! They can make SUCH good food! And people who follow the diet are GORGEOUS- clear skin, white eyes, glowing, energetic, happy, friendly. It's amazing!
I'm trying to follow it as best I can, but without a dehydrator and such, it is a bit difficult. I've made some changes and feel really good! ;)

I have been doing raw off and on for a few years now. My bigest problems are I love cooking and living so far north I am not always getting in great veggies. Basically it's usually soup that brings me back. When it's -15 I just want a big pot of steaming soup on my stove. ::)
Any way I want to comment that you don't need a lot of fancy equipment at all, just if you want to make some of the more complicated recipes. The first time I switched to raw I was living in a tiny little travel trailer (240 square feet small) with no counters. I only had knifes a cutting board and a blender. You just figure things out. I even have a friend who has been raw for a few years and spent 6 months living out of her car and a tent traveling around the country raw.
I love the way I feel when I am raw. Vibrant and full of health, tons of energy.
i was thinking about starting a "(i am thinking about) going raw club"-- support, recipe/meal ideas, more designed for people who have some experience/have read into raw some (vs. your thread which is good for learning about raw). anyone interested in this? i don't wanna start it if people aren't interested.
i would really be interested in joining that :). I've considered going raw before but i've never really found any recipes...
I would be totally interested in this too!!
