Raw Peanuts

Hi,

My S/O is in China for a couple more days and he has this addiction to something they call "vinegar peanuts"

When he got back last year we tried to recreate these but he says it has to be raw peanuts. We can't find those anywhere! Also, don't know the vinegar combination but right now we're just looking for the peanuts. I can't believe you can't find raw peanuts anywhere!

Does anyone know where to buy them without having to get them online?

Thanks!!!

Sorry I don't have a source for them but they are much more prevalent in the south where they are used for boiled peanuts. (and you must say that with a southern draw) ;)

do you have a local co-op or smaller HFS? i just bought some today, in fact, from the bulk bins of a smaller HFS in my town.

I grew up eating "bolled" peanuts.  ;D

Can you find them in a farmers market or specialty market?  They're everywhere around here (in the south, I know, no help, sorry!).  I just bought some and boiled them in a crock pot with a few peppers and a ton of salt and they are quite delightful, I must say.  I also understand that this is a rural Southern thing and most of you haven't experienced the pleasure...but you should.

I get them in my Asian grocery. You may have to ask for them, as we found them stacked on a shelf in a corner along with cashews etc. They were bagged by the people in the store, obviously bought in bulk and separated out into individual transparent plastic bags by weight.

raw peanuts? What do you mean? Just shelled peanuts?

I don't know for sure, but Trader Joe's has all sorts of raw nuts, I get raw almonds, raw cashews, raw brazil nuts...  I've never looked for just plain old raw peanuts though.

Good luck!

The ones I get are white, shelled raw nuts. Not much flavour, but kinda crispy, like water chestnuts.

Hmmm.....I think we have a co-op here downtown somewhere. We do a goodly amount of shopping at Wholey Foods and they have peanuts every way except raw, here. We live in a small college town so there isn't much but I think there is an asian grocery here. I'll check!

Thanks for the tips!

Ugh!  Boild peanuts...that was one of the most disgusting things I have ever tried.  My grandpa had me try some from Alabama, I grossed out, he laughed at me because my face was so disgusted.  He was mean to me like that.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with them. I love them but they have to be prepared just right.

I love boiled peanuts, you can not find them in the North so when I came back home I mail ordered them from here and made my own.  They are reasonably priced.

I just read your post, whoops I do not have any suggestions other than online I could not find any retailers here in Minnesota.
