3. What do you use it for mostly?
Hummus, toasted walnut & mushroom paté, food experiments...
OperaChic, if you have time to post it, i would really love your walnut and mushroom pate recipe....
cheers!
rebecca :)
well...I haven't posted it on vegweb, because it's not really mine. I found a recipe somewhere a long time ago and made it my own. Here's the basic idea:
Toast about 1 cup (shelled)walnuts in a dry frying pan, then set toasted nuts aside in a bowl.
Use the same frying pan to sautée a big package (1lb?) or more of chopped/sliced crimini (baby bella) mushrooms in a little bit of olive oil. I add freshly ground black pepper, salt and a bit of fresh (or dry) sage to the mushrooms as they're cooking. Make sure to let all the water from the mushrooms to evaporate.
Grind the nuts and mushrooms together in a food processor until you have a somewhat uniformly smooth paste.
This is good warm or cold. It's great as a stuffing for bread rolls, pastry or ravioli. For a paté, wrap the mixture in plastic wrap (mold into log or square, etc.) and refrigerate. You can also just throw it in a bowl and serve it warm with pita, crackers, chips or bread.
I've found this recipe to be very popular with omnis!
Sounds delicious, thanx for posting it ;)
many thanks OperaChic. sounds very good. excellent.
cheers!

*writes it down* Paté!! This sounds amazing.

Do you mean 'made it your own' because you changed it? Or just have acquired it as your own now? ;)
I never know where the line is... how much do you have to change a recipe for it to be "new"?
I've always picked the arbitrary number of 3... must change 3 things about the recipe, time method, ingredients or amount. Is my way okay? :)
hehe - I think your way is OK. I also think using the recipe in a different way is OK too. If I posted this recipe, I guess I could say I found it online somewhere and forgot where. My measurements are never exact anyway, and who knows if what I make not is the same thing as what I read....doubtful! lol!
