HI so glad I found this site. OK long story short, after being raised a vegetarian by my mother I rebelled once I reached about 15 or 16 years old, fast forward 15 years or so and have come to agree she was right all along, sorry Mum!!! Well I grew up in the UK and thought it was a lot easier from what I remember to get veggie food over there. I now live in the Chicago area and would like to know if anyone has any good links to stores close to me ideally or websites that deliver veggie food stuffs. I would really like to get my hands on some TVP for making vegetarian shepherds pie.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Welcome aboard. It's interesting about parents. I've heard that many people reestablish childhood food values later in life, so it's extra important to make sure your kids eat healthy - even if they jump off the healthy boat for a while when they're older. Just about any health food store would carry TVP. Word of warning, it's been known to give some people excessive gas.
Here's a link to Chicago-area HFSs.

You can even get it sometimes in a regular-ol' grocery store, because Bob's Red Mill produces and sells it. Dixie Diner is a great source online... sorry, I've misplaced my link.
Be aware that tvp is a byproduct of soybean oil production and not a primary product... for some reason, my partner (who has AIP) can digest any form of soybean except tvp. Indeed, it can be hard to digest. If you don't have a problem (and I don't) it's wonderful!
Also, if you ever get into the 'burbs, Asian markets carry interesting dehydrated gluten/tvp alternatives. Just make sure there's an ingredient list in English so as not to get a surprise, and, you know, use your spidey senses on food safety and all.
*waves hello to a fellow Illinoisian*
I'm also in the 'burbs.

Magic, I just live down the road from Lombard I'll swing by there this week!

Are there any draw backs to TVP? Seriously though, I have been using the Boca "beef" crumbles for chili and stuff like that. What is the difference between the Boca stuff and TVP?

TVP isn't flavored. For your pot pie, you may want to hydrate it with veggie stock, or spice the heck out of it.
The "Mince" section of this recipe is pretty awesome. Heck, that whole recipe is a good use for TVP left over from a shepards pie.
