Thanks!

On a side note, our son who lives in Chi-town gave bookpapa and me the Chicago Diner Cookbook. It has some yummy, doable-looking recipes in it. I've already been planning some for our New Years celebration.
Hey, was there a faux-burger recipe in there where you make the patties out of an oat and wheat flour mixture stirred in with a veggie broth? If so, I would recommend those because my veggie magazine featured that recipe (called simply Chicago Diner Burgers) and they were great.
Alas, all I found was Black Bean-Grain Burgers.

Oh, okay bookmama. Well, here is the recipe I was talking about. Meggs, did they serve anything like this, or is Veg Times just making up a name? ;)

Just another side note, my super cool brother who lives in Chicago (same one who gave bookmama/papa the cookbook) gave me a cool t-shirt from the Chicago Diner that says:
Kiss a Vegetarian......Taste the Difference
:D ;D
I love it.

OK so until this post was started I had never even heard of the Chicago Diner. Well I found myself in Chicago this weekend (I was in Kalamazoo with my BF which is only 2 hours from the Windy City) so I decided that I must check out this place. I am in love. Best Veg restauraunt I have ever been to (even better than Seva in Ann Arbor and The Laughing Seed in Asheville - and both of those places rock!) We went there for dinner last night and it was so good we took a taxi ride up there and back just so we could have brunch this morning. Last night we had: BBQ wings (best setien EVER), gyro (AWESOME), mac and cheeze (okay), and the chick'n cesar salad (pretty good). This morning I had the "green eggz and ham" with fruit and potatoes, and my BF had the ravioli (it was brunch!). Everything was awesome. I know I am just raving about this place but it was that good. I can't wait to go back! :D

I can't wait to go back, either, KendraKat!! I'm lucky my brother lives relatively close to there! I shall frequent it more. And really, wasn't the gyro amazing?!?! My omni cousin said that she's not a fan of regular gyros but liked the vegan version! After appetizers, I barely had room for the meal, but I forced myself to eat it anyway because it was so damned good. Next time, try the reuben, if that's your thing-- so tasty. And the omnis liked the mac and cheeze, too. I'm lucky because my WF has Chicago Diner desserts (yummmmmm!): scones, muffins, cookies. SIGH. Now I'm jonesin' for some Diner food!!

Meggs - You are lucky that your brother lives close. I think this is a restaurant that even omni's really do enjoy. My BF is not a full time vegan (usually just around me) and he really loved everything at the Diner. The Gyro was especially delicious (I was a little disappointed that he ordered it and I did not - I only got to enjoy a couple of bites!) But I thought that the Seitan wings ROCKED. I would go there just for those. Next time I will take your suggestion and try the Ruben. Next time I come to town we should have a VegWeb party at the Diner! How fun! :)

There are lots downtown. The Chicago Diner is in "Boystown", which is super fantastic in itself. You need to get a SideKick or BlackBerry or something of the like- then you can search up whatever you want! :)

It was so cold in Chicago, we walked down Michigan street like 8 blocks then hurried back to the hotel. ::) I should have asked someone about a good vegan restaurant, but instead I was a good little quiet vegan and ate some fruit and granola bars. :P

Meggs, we need to go to Chicago Diner!! Let me know if you come to Chicago in the next couple weeks to visit your brother. I have loose schedule with work until I start school on the 14th, and if not my classes all week end by 11:15am (except Tuesdays).
Sweet you tried the gyros, I like them a lot.
As far as the burger at the diner---it was a 'bacon burger' and I don't know if any of you have tried it here, but it WAS so disappointing. I'm a lover of the plethora of fake meats (tofu, veggies, oats, buttons) so long as it has pleasant texture and flavor. And though I'm not picky, it just didn't want to digest!

My brother is leaving for AZ Thursday until the following Tuesday; he works every Wednesday, and I'm too freaky to figure out the city driving on my own (did I mention I am unable to parallel park?)... Let's figure something out.
