What is the most important veggie in your garden?

I could live on bok choi...It's easy to grow in large quantities very early in the spring until summer and again in fall until winter.  I only wish I could keep it going in the heat of summer.

The garden variety I have is mostly leaf and not so much stem, more appealing to me than those huge bok choi stems and leaves in the grocery store.

And it's so useful!  We especially like the bok choi pancakes from this site and also any kind of stir fry.  I love growing bok choi  :)>>>

So what veggie is your garden staple and why?

Can we choose a fruit too?

Berries! I love berries but they're SO expensive at the store AND they taste so much better fresh from the backyard. I either eat them raw or I make lots of berry cobbler with them (my favorite).

I also love tomatoes and basil because we make our own pasta sauce a lot.

I have tons of basil growing on my deck in planters, just harvested some and some romane.  I also planted about 8 red pepper plants, (the organic ones are sooo expensive!) So maybe they are up there....oh and my kale, I love it, and it looks pretty! Its starting to get big!

the only veggie that survived the rabbits is my winter squash....probably my least favorite, but whatever...
I have tomatoes in the Topsy Turvy and a huge basil/rosemary pot
I was really excited about my green beans....but so were the bunnies....

For me, it's the kale. I LOVE the stuff.... but since it got so hot recently, and it's all withering up, We've let it go to seed so We can plant more once it cools off.

Probably the most important for everybody here, though, are the red peppers.
Not only are they WAY too expensive at the store (especially organic), they're pretty much the only significant source of Vitamin C that James can eat.

Beet greens!
My whole family loves them, and we like to eat them whenever we can.
Romaine lettuce is the runner up, because my bunnies adore it.

For veggie I'd say orange cherry tomatoes.  But we get lots of blueberries and blackberries from the backyard too.

Butternut squash! I'm all about winter squash, and I have an abundance of it from the garden this year. I think next year I'm going to try a few heirloom variety pumpkins.  :)
