Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

It's nice to meet you!
My sister is an MC2 in the Navy, and she's having a hard time with it as well. She is very liberal, has a Greenpeace sticker on her car, and hates being surrounded by a hierarchy that rewards stupidity. (Needless to say, I get frequent updates on how long she has left until her enlistment expires.)
I'm sorry that your road hasn't been smooth ... but it sounds like you've come out of it as a strong person.

Thankyou for your warm welcome. I love the people of vegweb. The navy is tough. It isnt mean for everyone, especially someone as sensitive as me. I was a vegan the whole time I was on the ship and I got lots of taunts for it. I even had to order food from vegan essentials to stay healthy. Tell your sister to hang in there and stay strong. And thanks again for your welcome.

G'day vegwebbers! I'm a 33y.o. Aussie girl who was into veg web about 9 years ago and can remember Tweety from way back then!! I'm back on the site looking for inspiring recipes and as a single mum with a 3y.o I would love to find recipes and tips to tempt fussy little eaters  ;D I have just purchased my own house and have gone crazy planting lots of fruit trees and have big dreams of growing my own food along permaculture lines. Great to meet you all  ;)b

Hiya,
In my life I don't know any Vegans, so being around you all online is great.
Here in New York, NY, there are plenty of us, I see them around, I just don't know any of them personally.
My friends just tease me about it. One of them forgets all of the time and buys me animal based gifts a lot, once she bougt me something made out of bone, she tried to give me a leather belt this week, one day she will probably try to give me a fishing rod.

Basically, I'm a writer, graduated college before many of you were born ('89), my major was philosophy, so i am very deep. I am very happily divorced. I like to say the divorce was almost worth the marriage, but it wasn't, there is nothing for which it is worth going through a marriage (well kids, okay).

Hello all. My name is Joy and I am a raw foodist. I spent 8 years in the Air Force and that was enough for me. I now teach middle school math and science and it is great. I am sure you are wondering why a raw foodist is on the board. Well, it is because I have an 11 month old daughter that I am raising raw and vegan. I am also trying to make things that my S.A.D husband might want to try. This is a great site for recipes and ideas. My daughter loves fruits and vegetables. I just need more variety to add to her menu plan. This seems like  a great place to chat with people. I hope to talk to everyone soon!

Well where to begin. I'm 25 years old. I graduated around 9/11 and went into the Navy after high school. I lived in Japan for two years, but buckled under the control and the fact I was in serious denial about my homosexuality. I was honorably discharged after a battle with an eating disorder. I moved back to Pennsylvania, met the love of my life and followed him to Florida. I lived in the Orlando area. I completed culinary school at a Le Cordon Bleu affiliate. After a bad car accident I moved back to Pa. WHY DID I EVER DO THIS?!!!! I now work at a country club making little compared to what I made in FL. I deal with a lot of stress and hassle which used to bog me down but I have now realized that I am me and work is work and I leave it at that. As you can tell I am an open book. I love veg web. Love being vegan. Love my two dogs. And most importantly I TRULY love life.

where in pennsylvania are you?? i'm from the lehigh valley area.  I'm sorry you cant live in fl for the time being : (    i couldnt handle the drab, rainy, cold months any more and moved to texas.  yay!  sunshine!

Hello everyone!

My name is Katrina, I'm 27 years old and live outside of Boston.  I am married (over 6 years now) with 3 kids, a stepson (13), and 2 daughters (10 and 6).  I am a relatively new vegan, as I began on Jan 1 this year.  No, it really wasn't a new years resolution!  I've always eaten very little meat, but was ignorant of the meat industry's proceedings until I read Skinny Bitch this year.  (Funny title, amazing book!!)

And after that, I immediately decided on compassion and abstinence.  It's been quite the journey, especially since the rest of my family is still trying to figure out what Vegan means! :)  I found Vegweb just a few days ago and it's been a wonderful resource.

And the best part:  from all of your posts and comments I see that the community here is full of wonderful, supportive people.  You guys seem amazing and I look forward to getting to know you all in our common journey.

Warm wishes to you all!

I never knew there was a intro post...

I decided to be a vegetarian at the beginning of the year, this is my second attempt and I hope that I better this time. I do not know a single person besides myself who is a vegetarian and that makes it a little difficult, but I have found this website and I feel more confident that I will succeed this time.

I am 31, I work in a very conservative environment - but I do love what I do. I am going to be going back to school later this year, I am terrified that I will do terribly and that I won't be able to pay for it - I trying hard to just relax and take it as it comes.

I am hoping to find recipes, articles, friends/supporters to help me stick with my choice this time.

I have been lurking (posting once in a blue moon) since February or so when someone mentioned the site to me and I thought I outta check it out. I'm glad I did!

My intro
I have been lurking on here for years and I have wanted to be vegetarian, and eventually vegan for a very long time now. I recently told my family of my decision and they said that they would be supportive but have been everything but that.
When I leave home I have every intention of going vegan, but I wont be leaving home until the end of the year at least.
About me. Im from Australia, 18, and love to travel. When I finish my last year of high school (4 months to go!) I want to study to be a Nutritionist or a Psychologist, not too sure yet.
I am a Latin American Dancer, starting competition work this year. I own a rottweiler x Doberman puppy and a golden tabby cat. Cooking is one of the things I enjoy doing the most and I cook for the family pretty much every night and cook myself a separate meal since they have the belief that its not a 'real meal' unless it has meat in it. I dont mind too much, but I do wish they would atleast try some of it.

Anyway.

Welcome MissMadi!

I have recently transitioned into vegetarianism and I am not finding a lot of support from my family! My mom has been the most supportive, yet she still makes comments like: "I am not going out to dinner with you, you're just going to eat vegetables."
If memory serves me right, she complained that I didn't eat enough veggies as a child...

The rest of my family is basically malicious, they have not been supportive at all! They do not accommodate meat free dishes and have tried to slip meat into some of the foods.

To make it a bit harder, I have no friends or acquaintances to even talk to or get general support of my new diet. I keep coming to this site and trying to stick to my guns!

I think that you will like it here, and of course good luck!
I bet it you made a few of the dishes on here your family would be very pleasantly surprised! ;)

i bet there will be a good handful of veg*ns at college (i read in your profile that you're going to bradley), and you're somewhat close to bloomington, there are a shit ton of vegans there.  i know that for sure.  and vegan restaurants.  i hope you find some people who support your decision!!! that can make all of the difference.

I haven't started classes yet but I am not only looking forward to getting back to school, but also getting involved with the vegetarian group. Last time I decided to go for a vegetarian lifestyle I got frustrated and stopped. I hope to be successful this time! :)

I live in Springfield which is at least hour away from both Peoria and Bloomington so it's a bit of a hassle to drive that far regularly. Obviously I will be driving to Peoria quite a bit once classes start (unless I find a job in the area and a place to live).

I know that I am being very anxious, but I know that I made it about this far before I just felt lost and unsupported, I don't want to feel that way this time, I do want this to be a forever lifestyle!

Thanks for the kind words!

Hello everyone. My name is Pep (at least for this website) and I'm starting a new eating routine at 53!  I've felt for some years now that bad things are happening - more aches and pains, ringing in my ears keeps getting louder, back pain, high blood pressure etc., and I firmly believe a plant based diet could potentially change all these things. I've listed myself as ovo-lacto vegetarian, but I am working very hard to be vegan. We gather weekly with our Drinking Liberally friends and several of them are vegetarian, so I'm surrounded by like-minded people.
We live in Tampa Florida after having been in the NW for 48 years. Love the sunshine here! I work at home (when I have work) doing dental ceramic work for labs with overflow. I have two very special kitties, Jeebus and Quidjibo, - who are now my children since our son is grown and out of the house.  All in all, life is good. I look forward to getting to know you all.
