Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Hi! My name is Kai, and I have been using this site for a few years. I am never good with intros so I will just list a few things about myself.
1. I have been a vegetarian for about six years (after numerous attempts at it as a child). I still use dairy products occasionally, but that is about it. I became a vegetarian mainly because I found the idea of eating a dead animal to be disgusting. There is also the fact that I am a Buddhist and don't want to inflict suffering onto others.
2. I am currently in the process of moving back to WA after spending some time in TN. Wish me luck since the moving procedure will involve a car full of three adults and three cats.
3. I have a bachelors degree in English, which I have yet to put to satisfactory use.
4. I am a happily married lesbian.
5. I love cooking, reading, rpgs, and hiking.
Hey Keital,
i did the exact same move (from TN .. to WA). I drove a 22" penske truck with a car carrier ...

it was in November. Bad weather was to be had in Wyoming (this was so *not* fun!).
I'm happy to say i didn't drive w/my kitties (had friends come w/me so we could take one cat each on the plane - not fun, but better then driving, ...quicker - anyhow..)
Welcome....!
welcome keital,
both sirdidymus and i live in washington. are you moving to the seattle area?
and i'm also a happily married lesbian with three kitties!
i don't have anything else to add...
Hi there,
My name is Franchesca, i live in Castro Valley, Ca! I love the bay!! I'm going on 32 here soon and have noticed that my body has taken me hostage! I 'm a new converted Vegan and gluten free! I am in the Coast Guard and i have been since 1996. I'm not a baby killer and in fact have a great daughter named Sierra, who is the Sun's fire in a little girl body!! She is gonna be 9 soon! I'm recently single and recovering food addict! Finding no happiness in being married to a liar, and bigger than i have ever been, i felt like i no longer wanted either, so moving on!!
a lot of my friends say that i can't do it, but i feel fantastic and my skin is a glow! Can use a push every now and then and hope that we all can be friends.
Take Care,
Franchesca
francie, welcome. thank you for sharing so much!
why don't your friends think you can do it? are they talking about being vegan? after a while it just becomes as natural as breathing and not hard at all. they don't get it because they haven't done it (i'm assuming). at a time like this, you need support from your loved ones. if you cannot find it in the people physically around you, then you can certainly find it here! vegweb is great for that! we are so close and supportive.

*grins* It is cool to hear about somebody else traveling successfully with a ton of cats! I am moving from Murfreesboro, TN to Olympia, WA. I am looking forward to rediscovering WA since I lived there for about five years before, but didn't take full advantage of festivals, restaurants, etc.

so cool..i lived in Nashville - 20 minutes north of Murfreesboro (so says, Mr. Obvious..hehehe). I hope you weren't affected at all by the recent spell of tornadoes there. My ex lives there ("The 'Boro :P) - who i'm still close friends with and the tornado came close to her new home but thankfully missed it (not that i'd wish it on any other pour soul instead)
... and any idea what time of month you'll be travelling? Any idea what route you'll be taking? If you like, i'm happy to offer my perspective on my travels.
I've lived in (greater) Seattle (area) for almost 2 years now, and have hardly done *anything* noteworthy, such is life, eh?
Hmm I am not sure of the exact route we are taking yet... Originally we thought of taking the long way and visiting a few of my relatives in CA, but that would probably be a bit much with the kitties traveling along :x I used to live in WA a while back, and I remember vowing that I would never take any more visitors up the Space Needle! Pike Place was very cool though and I loved the Asian mall.
Hi...my name is Nicki. I'm 33 and have been a vegan for only 3.5 years, but a vegetarian for much, much longer. I like to play video games (RPGs only, really, and then only on the console) and read poetry. I love kitties and have two myself. I live in a small town in southern Arizona that seems to have nothing in common with me, so it can get pretty lonely.
I love dessert.
Keital--I, too, have a BA in English. I've been a technical writer for 10 years. My advice to you: if you ever want to get into publishing, do NOT become a technical writer. I haven't been able to make the transition. Prospective employers always say "technical writers are too robotic!" Sadly, I agree.
Corinthia, I love your kitties!
Hey all, I've been meaning to get on here a little more. This is Rainbowdust919's wife Brittney. My profile is kind of lame because I haven't done anything with it (even though I've had it for like a year). Just wanted to say a great big hello to all!
:)>>>
welcome, brinney!!!
:)>>> :)>>> :)>>>
by the way, sarah, brinney already knows our plan to run off and have rainbow babies together. ;)b
Welcome nicki!! (i love the spelling of your name btw!)
And hey Brittney!! we've all heard tons about you, good to see you on vegweb!!! Soon you'll be sucked in like keri is! Heh.
Hi, Britt!

P.S. I love Converse, too. I saw the latest Harry Potter movie and what saved it was that Harry wore a pair of Chucks during the whole movie.
Dude! hh, i so noticed that through the whole movie, i was like WHY AM I NOT WEARING CONVERSE TOO. haha.

He was wearing a pair of me?
Hi :)
My name's Jessie.
I went vegetarian in April of '07.
Sometime in December of that year, a friend on a message board suggested us vegetarians 'try' veganism, so I made it my new years resolution.
I've been vegan now for over a year and a half.
I essentially believe going vegan has made me who I am today.
Anyways,
I grew up in Florida.
A year ago, I moved to New York.
I live up in the Adirondack mountains.
It's beautiful up here, but, unfortunately, everyone around here hunts and goes fishing.
My mom owns a secondhand store in our little town, where I work.
I'm a huge nerd, and I read a lot.
ummm, I listen to weird music.
I love acoustics, folk, alternative, anything.
I'll listen to anything, especially 'weird' songs.
Lyrics mean more to me than the song itself.
My favorite band just recently 'broke up', so I've been mourning that lately haha.
Yay for writing a lot. :)
welcome Dessie,
am sure you'll have lots of fun here!! ;)b
I am in the Coast Guard and i have been since 1996.
Take Care,
Franchesca
Hello! Me too...but since 2005. How do you find being vegan in the CG?
Hi! I'm Julie. I've had fun reading all the posts. I'm 44, I've been married 24 years to the most wonderful man in the world. We have three children. I have four fur-children, three dogs and a cat, all senior citizens, a bird, fish, and frogs.
I've been mostly vegetarian for most of my life, with the exception of occasional fish and dairy. I became sick about a year ago and had my gall bladder removed in March. Since the surgery I haven't been able to eat anything animal. I can't eat meat, dairy, and some bread. Now I'm trying to eat a Vegan diet. I don't know where to start.
I live in a tiny town in central Utah. The food choices here are very limited. I drive 100 miles to get to a decent grocery store. This website is awesome. I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

This website made my transition from vegetarian to vegan extremely easy. After trying several of the recipes on this site and loving ALL of them, I was able to start also creating dishes on my own that are variations of the recipes on this site (I still use recipes from here on a daily basis).
What I have learned is that with a few basic ingredients, I can make countless different meals. I make everything from scratch, and my grocery bill is less than it has ever been!
Just give it a little time, and it will all fall into place...or at least it did for me!
1stdrop, you sound even better than I thought! Yessssssssss. ;)b
eta: WHERE DO YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA?? Have you read about our meet up in SF in a couple weeks?! That would be awesome if you're close enough to make it! The thread is in the events forum, and I can message you more. :>
