Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

I was actually just reading about that!!! I wish I'd looked here before!  I'm in LA... North Hollywood area.  I'd really really like to go to the meet up, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get the time off from my boss. I work everyday but Saturday, and we usually need to give notice far in advance for taking time off.  I'll try though... and if I can't make it this year, I'll definitely make it if there's one next year.

I work as a sessions coordinator for music contractors.

I like to read... a LOT.  I love Harry Potter, maybe a little TOO much.  I like a lot of music, but punk is my favorite... I've seen Bad Religion four times, same goes for Rise Against (which is where the name the1stdrop came from).  I play lots of video games... Legend of Zelda, baby!  I like board games too, but only really get to play them when my sisters are over.  Oh, and I love The Office.  I wanna be Dwight Schrute when I grow up.

You have an awesome job.
I also think that you and I will be good e-friends.

Hi there!

This is awkward to me so excuse me while I ramble :D
My name is Audrey, I'm 25 and have been married for 8 years (do the math and lemme watch you scream!) we have a little girl who will be turning 5 soon ( :'( ) she has two older brothers and an older sister, all three are feline, but feel the same as she does, I came upon them the minute they were born, their mother was attacked and they were birthed, luckily okay, but obviously premature, with some love, bottle feeding and some more love, well they turned 7 years old on May 1st! Along with our dog and our rat, they are her siblings, even though folks are confused with I say "Save that scrap of food, we'll give it to your brother!" (I'm sure they picture a starving child in the room beneath our stairs.)

My husband is a omni, but with my iron fist he's slowly becoming healthier at least, no I don't bully him, ha, I just do all the cooking, see? He has no choice :P

Our daughter and I are vegan, while I've been on and off again, vegetarian to omni through out my entire life, this is her first go with it, and it was all her idea. So I was proud to back her up and of course start a new chapter of our lives hand in hand.
When I was her age I remember starting to notice what was going on around me more, my family is very southern and of course hunt, not out of necessity, but for sport, and at her age it started to effect me, the sights and sounds lingering long after the activity, I remember asking to not eat meat or to let me join PETA etc, it just wasn't allowed, tragic hu?

I knew from an early age that my child would have all the options in life that I didn't and some, and she does.
So of course when she announced she no longer wanted to eat meat or any form of animal product, I was proud, to be her age and to stand up for herself and not only that but what goes into her body and more importantly what others have to go through to get it there, that was an amazing moment. My job as a parent is to give her the world, surely I wont deny her her rights in leading a life the way she sees fit, obviously no one is being harmed, its the extreme opposite of that!

I don't know if it shocks me that she is now vegan, when I was pregnant with her I was a partial vegetarian (I have no self control so I ate crap on occasion, I wont lie!) and when she was born and I nursed her (for years) it was amazing what my body craved, only whole foods! I couldn't get enough produce or almonds or anything else that was healthy, I still believe I had never been healthier. Then she weened herself and of course my calorie needs went down and so did my drive to be healthier, but her energy went up! She was moving and shaking and eating a very healthy diet while I fell into the stereotypical mom rut!

But it's a new day!

So that is that.

We live on the west coast of Florida, a relaxed part of the state, to far from the beach in my opinion, and not as liberal as I wish they were :( It's lonely around here to say the least, but I keep myself busy with the little one, cooking, taking pictures (hubby calls me a photographer) and soon getting back into making soap!
When I'm not being "vanilla" I am into of course photography of all sorts, from macro food shots, my pets, our daughter, anything that catches my eye to nudes and more taboo things, hey, I'm not "just" a mom! :P
I'm also into body modification from tattoos to dermal implants, and currently and sporting my newest creation, rainbow hair! Hey it's that time of year to show pride :P
I kinda enjoy that a lot of people wouldn't suspect that under it all I'm really a gentle tender soul with a love for all animals and nature and any baby (man I love babies, ha!) but that is fine with me, the ones that do take the time to get to know me are pleasantly shocked and generally awesome themselves.

We also (well starting this year) are getting into reenacting and will be doing a week long festival where we'll live, dress, cook, talk and be period correct per 1700's...of course I'll have to be smart about what I bring and can find as far as food, and of course weasel in PC items that look correct with out being wool or silk etc.

Any how, I think I've done enough rambling for one night.

I hope to get to know a lot of you and make some friends, if you think we'd get along then drop me a line!

Still trying to sort through everything on this site, but I figured I should post on here, now that I've been lurking for a while.

I live in San Francisco with my husband and cat. I've been vegetarian since 2001 and went vegan in 2005 when I met my husband. (He's been vegan since 1997!)

Recently I quit my job working in the nonprofit sector. Great time to do that, in the middle of a terrible recession, right? So since I've had some spare time on my hands I decided to launch a vegan and vegetarian travel and restaurant review site. It's called Veg Table: http://veg-table.net

It's a wiki so anyone can sign up to contribute. I'm inspired by how huge the community is here and hope to grow my site as big some day.

When not working on that I enjoy traveling, cooking (of course), music, and theatre. Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

Good to see some new faces.  Hi all!
I've been around for a few years and haven't done this...so...
I'm 39 (& a 1/2) and pleasantly surprised to have made it this far.  I like the usual things, to varying degrees.  I grew up in SWPA (go Pens!) and have been a vegetarian since 15 or 16.  I've been married for 12 years; we met in a Pittsburgh laundromat.  Romantic, eh?  We were both vegetarians and, thanks largely to The China Study, are now vegans.
We moved to the Yucatan a few years ago and do what we can for the local dogs.  We have a huge (sterile) pack, but I can't say exactly how many because I'm afraid another will spontaneously appear.  I'll just say, we'd all agree it's a lot.  Visit my blog for pictures of the furry little angels (or dirty little b@stards -depending on my mood) and leave a little VegWeb love.  http://dogsofcelestun.blogspot.com/

Hi, my name is Lorin

I'm 29 and have been (mostly) Vegan for about three weeks now. I was vegetarian for a while when I was 23 but did not put enough effort in to making dishes from scratch with fresh ingredients so ultimately failed. Since then I've had lots of health problems all pertaining to an unhealthy lifestyle....too much fast food, not enough activity, too much caffeine and not enough rest...the usual deciding factors it seems. A friend of mine went vegan about 4 months ago on recommendation from his doctor to fix his IBS issues. Since then he's been working on me to do so as well and I already have seen a great deal of healthy change (and lost about 12 lbs already, tho that's not what I was going for). The dishes I've been making have all been fantastic and while its been difficult to fit in 1-2 hours cook / shopping time the results have been well worth it. Now granted this has all been part of general health improvements as well... quitting smoking, cutting back on coffee and working out again but I think this has made the greatest impact.

A little about me:
I was born and grew up in Hagerstown, MD and moved to Columbia, SC when  I was 8 and sadly, here I have remained. Its not exactly not a bad place to live just not very conducive to how I want to live my life. I'm mostly happily married (I'll see how long she stays irked I went vegan overnight)  ;) I work in IT supporting databases...and its incredibly boring. I'd rather be a cook...or a musician...or a dishwasher (again). The money's not bad though and makes supporting my now higher grocery bill a little easier. I work 3rd shift and this luckily gives me quite a bit of time to plan the next day's meal.

Music is my lifelong passion and I play many instruments. My mother enrolled me in the Suzuki school when I was 3 to study violin so that's where it started. I played in orchestra in middle school but had to give it up; choice between art and music, only allowed a single elective here in South Cackalacky... I started playing guitar in high school and that's the one that stuck. Since then I've picked up Banjo, Mandolin, Bass and some various other stringed instruments. I want to eventually relearn violin and cello. I have a deep and abiding love of music of all kinds, from Brahms, to folk, bluegrass, jazz-fusion, classic rock, punk and (progressive) metal. One of the reasons I enjoy cooking so much is it gives me a chance to rock out and not have the constant internal struggle in the desire to listen to music and the desire to play. I would like one day to finish recording an album...even I just keep doing it at home and recording in my spare time.

My other big time waster is video games though its only about two or three times a month, used to be a lot more before I started focusing on music studies... However, when I was heavy into them I played many different kinds, favorites being Japanese Role-Playing and First Person Shooters. However my wife and I probably wasted the heaviest amount of time on World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online. In this vein I still build custom gaming computers and setups for friends. I also build and customize my instruments but that is about as good with my hands as I get.

My wife is being relatively supportive of my decision, but is unhappy about not getting her normal cooked with love dinner (I'm having a hard time cooking meat already, vapors make me a touch ill). I'm trying to give her healthy alternatives to the pastas and such I've always cooked but I'm still learning myself. Luckily this whole decision has coincided with our first house being built so I think its made the transition very easy.

So, pleasure to meet all of you and thanks again to everyone who has contributed recipes and photos and time!

welcome lorin!  i always direct people to this site for recipes.  this site is a good source of information for someone who is just starting out and remains a good site even when you're finally settled into the vegan lifestyle.  and there are a lot of social forums... feel free to drop in at anytime and give your two cents!

good luck on that album!  ;)b

i've never personally played WOW but my friends who play it compare it to crack.  insanely addictive.  haha.  sorta like vegweb.

if you're trying to show your wife how wonderful vegan foods can be, i'd try some desserts.  they area always sooooo yummy and so easy to veganize into something that is quite similar if not completely identical (my wife, brittney, just said "completely BETTER").  try some cookies or brownies or whatever she likes.  read the reviews on the recipes and find one that you think sounds delicious and surprise her with it!

welcome to vegweb and i hope we see more of you.

Hi! My name is Kristin. I'm 22 and live in Baton Rouge, La though I'm from a town called Sulphur (which is kinda near Texas). My parents think I'm dumb for my new-found love of all things veggie. Well, actually, it's not really new.

I was a vegan about 2 years ago, it was kind of overnight and I think I did things too quickly without researching and making sure I wanted to do this. I don't know, I guess I just wasn't educated and threw myself into something I really didn't know anything about. On the bright side, I'm back and because of the past I feel like I'm better prepared and I love this way of life! People think I'm bizzarro - but they can have their thoughts!

I guess I'm still technically not vegan yet, but I'm making my way there.

I'm a vet tech (which I love, even though it can be extremely frustrating - mostly owner compliance issues) and I also like being vegan with that aspect. I have a passion for animals that doesn't end at just a paycheck :) I also have a boyfriend named Dylan. We've been together 6 years - high school loves. I get tired of being asked when we're getting married... we don't talk about it, it's not in our plans. I'm only 22, I can't imagine being married! STOP ASKING! (Not you reading this - just in general).

Other than that - I LOVE this site. I want to be a healthy, well-rounded vegan.

Oh, and I'm also starting Taekwondo - a childhood dream!

Welcome Lorin and Kristen!  This site is awesome, especially when you're trying to go from vegetarian to vegan, as there are SO many recipes that are easy and really good.  And pretty much any questions you can have about veganism, foods, etc. can be found on here.  ;)b

Hi Lorin!
I just had to say 'hi!' and that I'm very pleased to see another metal-lovin' vege-eatin' individual on here : )  My husband and I are huge prog metal fans also, and I think the term 'deep and abiding love'  with reference to music is just fantastic.
Wishing you heaps of luck on your new vegan endeavours, vegweb is an amazing resource for anything you might want to know, so stick around!

My name is Heather and I just turned 25...I've been a vegan for over a year and I was a lacto ovo for about 4 years.  I am a writer and a baker.  I spend most of my time in basements at shows and cooking vegan dinner with my friend Courtney.  I love bike riding, collecting records, great bass lines, lyrics that mean something, and the world wide moustache contest. :rabbit2:

Hi

My name's Antony and i joined because my wife keeps raving about this site. And the food that has been cooked for me has been pretty top notch so far.

I'm a 24 year old gym-junky, food destroying metal head. I love to eat and i do it a lot. It's a good thing i love to exercise because otherwise i'd be the size of a house. Probably put away about 9000 calories a day. So i'm always interested to find a new source of good food. And while i'm not a vegan or even vegetarian i'm open to all things food ... as long as it tastes good!
