Anyone try Daiya vegan cheese yet?! Any other good vegan cheeses??

It melts and stretches. I had it in a grilled cheese sandwich and it was the most amazing thing!! It melted, got gooey and stretchy and tasted just like cheese. Weirdest thing, it's made with Cassava!? So it's soy free too. I swear, I don't work for them but this is the closest thing I've had to real cheese EVER: http://daiyafoods.com/

I also like teese, follow your heart and cheezly. Pros and cons to all of them but I can't believe how far vegan cheese has come in a few short years. Any others I should know about??? I'm always on the look out for new vegan cheeses!

If I can stick with some of my goals I'm gonna reward myself by ordering some daiya ~^_^~

Anyone know where I can buy it on line where the shipping charges aren't outrageous?

If you buy it in quantity, the shipping charges are the same as if you ordered one small bag. Thus, the ten pounds I ordered! Since it freezes well, it will come out much cheaper this way.

I'm officially addicted.

I need to join a support group for Kombucha and Daiya addicts.....

When I was thinking of adopting a particular stray dog, I decided I'd name her Daiya.

Yeah...

Is this sold at whole foods, specifically Canadian locations? Also how long does it keep?

here is where u can find daiya: http://www.daiyafoods.com/where.html

they don't carry it at whole foods in canada though... maybe u could email HF and daiya and ask them to carry it or order it online...for me i have had no problems with the yellow daiya spoiling it has always been the white... but i noticed when i bought it online instead of at the health food store i never had a problem with any of it going bad

The stores listed there are all in BC, the other side of the country.  :'(
I am going to call whole foods tomorrow just to make sure.

Haven't tried it yet, but it is on the top of my List of must haves...
I even wrote to several grocery stores near me to carry it.
(Whole Foods is 40 min away)

Local stores carry vegan stuff, but damn it- I want Daiya!!!!

Side note- Can't wait to try Amy's (Like their stuff) GF Rice Mac & Cheese with Daiya!

Plus Veganessentials has frozen cheese (daiya) pizza up on their website.

Can't Wait!

I ordered the Cheddar style cheese and got it today.  It is more like american cheese then cheddar but is not bad.  The texture tastes processed to me.  It melts nicely and is stretchy.  Next time I order I want to get the italian for some pizza.  That would be cool if Whole foods has it when I go sunday.  Also, I tried it plain/unheated and it is not bad.  It reminded me of cheeze it crackers.

I want to try this badly sometimes, but it's been so long since I've eaten cheese that I really don't know.  When I am near cheesy stuff, the smell really bothers me.  Chese smells like stinky socks or something.  It funny, because cheese was the hardest thing for me to give up, and now I don't miss it at all.  I'll probably try it if it ever becomes available locally but I don't need the extra fat and don't really miss cheese anymore anyway.

I finally broke down and ordered some cheddar-style. It's good, it melts and does all the things it's supposed to, but I realized that I really don't miss cheese after all. I doubt that I'm going to order it again.

Panacea in Toronto carries it. Are you close to T.O.? I've been wanting to get some but don't like the idea of buying cheese online. Next time, I am up in Toronto, I will have to check out Panacea.

I made some mashed yuca and could totally see how it could be turned into daiya. Obviously there are lots more ingredients in daiya but it was cool to see the connection so daiya isn't just some mysterious magical product.

I know how you feel. I'm wary of fake meats, because they just kind of creep me out. I feel weird about the fake cheese on everything except pizza. I can make exceptions for pizza, for some reason. It just seems so...right.
