I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

Whole Foods mangoes, 10 for $10!

And I just got a 2 pound bag of pecans for like 8 bucks!

Last week I scored a box of "carrot cake" Clif Bars for $9.99 CDN. I don't really like that kind BUT I bought them anyway because they keep me in food stuffs while at school. Hooray for deals!!

Jealous! I love those.

I just scored a couch for free! It is decidedly old-lady looking, but it was free. Including delivery.

I had a dream that I got a huge grab bag of food for 1.98. In my dream I was very excited to post what I got here. I know there was saffron in the bag (and that's big $). I am officially a loser. Dreaming about this post.  :o

An Amazing Savings just opened up very close to where I live, so on my first trip there, I got:

A cinnamon mill (I'd never seen one before--it takes pieces of cinnamon bark and grinds them to a powder, like a pepper grinder) for $1
jar of almond butter for $2
box of Prince of Wales tea for $1 (it is $3.69 at the grocery store!)
soymilk for $1
vanilla extract for $1

and I  think something else that I can't remember right now.  How I love bargains!

I recently bought Larabars 3 for $5 at Loblaws....which still seems expensive to me but since I usually see them for $2.99 each, it's certainly a deal.  Although my friend recently bought a case of them for $20 on a trip to the States...wish I'd got her to get me a case!

That store is truly a blessing.  They have organic chocolate bars for $1 each!  If you are ever in the SC/NC area, you should try your best to stop at one.  Some of the things are expired, so you have to check the dates.  But a lot of the stuff is perfectly good, nothing at all wrong with it!  I got some organic snacks for the preschoolers at my church (they are normally fed Goldfish and Lorna Doone cookies), two boxes of stuff, each $1.

I got a two-layer stainless steel tiffin box for NZ$15 (US$8 / under 6GBP) today, which I think is a spiffy price. Anybody know what a tiffin box is? :D

I also got the first kale of the season from the farmers' market; $2 a bunch for 6-8 humungous leaves. Yay, smoothie season!

I also find that even the expired stuff is usually fine. Its just  a printed date...the food doesn't know its supposed to be expired! I have gotten a few rancid things that were not expired, and they take them back with no questions asked!

That's a good point.  Some soymilk I got said it expired in February 2009, but of course it is perfectly fine.  The have bottles of olive oil for $4!

....less expensive and more awesome grocery store!!!

I've been going to Kroger for all my generic grocery needs since I moved here, and I *thought* it was a great deal.... but recently I had to get a money order, and the closest location to do that (after bank hours) is this Publix not far from my apartment. It's about the same distance as Kroger, but in the opposite direction...and incidentally, in a slightly "nicer" neighborhood.

Sure, it's not open 24-7 like Kroger, but DAMN! Their store brand soymilk is WAY cheaper, and it has a better package design. ;D
even the employees are nicer. The checkout guy I had at my first visit was like, the best checkout person ever.

f'real, Publix rocks.

.......and I'm about to go score a FREE reusable grocery bag at Publix with the purchase of two items I've already planned on buying. sweet!

Yes, Publix is awesome.  There is one across the street from my hfs.  I buy a lot of things there (shh! don't tell my boss!).

RachelAnn  where is the "Amazing Savings" in Greenville?  I may have to make a trip next time I visit the fam.

aaaahh yes, Publix! That was my store of choice for 10 years in Florida. I don't have one here, but we have something comparable (Ingles). I did love the Publix! One thing though, it always seemed they seemed to stop carrying items I bought all the time. And they were not good about special requests.

It is on White Horse Road, right off the I-85 exit.  If you're coming from 85 North, then take the White Horse Road/Piedmont Highway exit, then take a right onto White Horse.  It will be just a little ways down on your right.  However, it is easy to miss because it is tucked in a sort of flea market area.  It faces the main road, but you have to really be watching for it because the sign is small.  It is in a kind of dumpy white shopping strip, right in the middle of a couple other stores.  It might help to get more specific directions by calling the store, since I"m not sure exactly where you'd be coming from.  Hope this helps, though!
