N.Y.C.?!?

This morning I was using one of the cosmetic products that I've had for a long time now (before going vegan), and I just happened to notice that it said, "this product is not tested on animals" on the bottom. It was N.Y.C New York color bronzer..and I would have never thought that N.Y.C did not test on animals..so I tried to research it, but it's pretty inconclusive. I know that it's not vegan..but the company is not on the PETA companiesdonttest PDF that I use (which lists companies that don't test on animals with stars on vegan companies). On the N.Y.C site it states, "No Animal Testing. N.Y.C. New York Color products are NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS." So, are just some products not tested, or what? I feel a little better about using up these products now..b/c I still have several eyeliners that I bought as bulk. Anyone have anymore info on it?

Apparently the FDA has no definition for the terms, "Cruelty-Free" and "Not tested on animals".  Companies can make those claims without being held legally responsible for upholding them.

This is actually really troubling....

Yeah...it's pretty rough for us cosmetic wearing ladies (and gents  I suppose  :>) I can tell you that I use the American Beauty line from Kohls--they don't test on animals and there make up kicks ass--although it is a little pricy (at least for me). A cheap brand--Wet and Wild--doesen't test either :)

Good luck on your reseach  8-)

Yeah, I was aware of that..and the many other troubling things that go on. Do you think this is what N.Y.C does?  ???

you can write to them and ask them

I doubt they are lying about the finished product because that would be fraud.  But whether the individual cojmponents were tested by suppliers--who knows.

this is often the case...there are quite a few cosmetic companies out there that "dont test on animals" but their parent company may. and brands are bought and sold by larger companies all the time, so its hard to even keep track!
i think its probably best to contact the separate companies themselves.
