The official vegan makeup, hair, and body care review! (to be updated).
Bring on your vegan makeup, hair, and body products, and reviews! I will add them to the compilation. Please let me know about non vegan ingredients or products that are listed. Aloe and green tea moisturizer
a nice, light, easily absorbed moisturizer. I have bad combination skin (dry and acne prone), and this is moisturizing without being greasy. It is fine under makeup, and doesn't make makeup look shinier like some moisturizers. However, I hate the packaging -- a pump would be much more sanitary. I use it at night only, because it doesn't have sun protection. It's gentle enough to use under the eyes. (rkathleen)

Hold style cream
I think it was $8.99 for 4 ounces. It was definitely under $10 at my hfs. Alba Style Cream keeps my hair up and out. It creates a bit of a "crust," but if I scrunch my hair a little after it's dry my hair becomes closer to being normally soft - moreso than with any of the waxes I've used. The hold isn't as secure as the Nanowax so I'm not sure if it'd do a fauxhawk, but for short hair it works well enough to be a less expensive alternative to Nanowax. (hh)
Sport sunblock SPF 45 Very Emollient
I like this so far. I'm not positive how affective it is, but it's not greasy, or stinky. It's nice and light. I'm ok with how it works, but it doesn't seem SUPER protective. (AC)

Baking soda
(armpits) I've used it for almost two years now...works great. I just pat some (dry) on. I found when I started mixing with water, I would mix too much water in, and it wouldn't be as effective. (AC)
Miracle in the kitchen and bathroom. I've been a stinky person most of my life, sweating a lot during sports, and I've tried all the "clinical" and super strength deodorants, switched them every couple of weeks, everything! And I could never get any help. Then I decided to try the baking soda as deodorant, and I swear it changed my life! I run and sweat a lot, and this has never let me down. I don't sweat as much anymore, I don't smell after runs anymore, and now I don't wash my running clothes as often, because they don't smell! I can't talk about this enough, and I've told anyone that will listen this is the way to do deodorant. I do mix it with some cornstarch, because the baking soda can be a bit abrasive when you're applying it to your pits. I mix them together in a little jar and sprinkle out a little after a shower, add a drop of water, make a paste, and you're good to go. (veganrun)
(face) THIS IS THE BEST FACE 'WASH.' I haven't had a real break out in months, and this is the first thing that has worked this well in...like the 11 years that I've had acne. I seriously only get tiny bumps that usually go away as soon as I wash my face again. I had one small break out right before my period, but that's to be expected. I love this. I just splash my face with water, dab some baking soda (usually mixed with cornstarch, because it's the same I use for armpits) on fingers, rub over face, and rinse. At least try it. (AC)
(hair) it's all ive been using for the past couple months (aside from conditioner once in awhile) and i love it. and by 'past couple months' i mean i use it 1 to 2 times a week - usually 1.. it's awesome & theres no waste. i just mix a couple tablespoons of it with a splash of water to make a paste and that's it.. my hairs super clean. (ppc)
I've been doing this also, but with a vinegar rinse, and I love it. I use it 2-3 times per week, and agree with ppc. (AC)
I recently (after a few months) had to stop using baking soda for hair, because I just couldn't get a good ratio. My hair was either feeling weird/dryish, or greasy and matted. (AC)

I use it every day, and like it. I regularly use the "light." I'm naturally fair skinned, and I have imperfections, and the light works well. I think the key is to "buff" it in, instead of just brushing it on. If you have lighter skin, I think the light would work. The fairly light didn't seem to give me enough coverage. I also have some golden medium that doesn't look bad, but I'm saving it for when I get a bit tanned. I buy all of mine on eBay..a lot less expensive. The 9g is the big one, the 2 g is small. I also have one of the blushes, and I really like it. (AC)
One of the girls asked about the difference between bare mineral and bare essentuals ... while they are the same company ... their products that are marked "bare minerals" and pure minerals .... the one's marked "bare escentuals" are not exactly 100% natural ... they also have another breakoff line "buxom" they're not all natural either .... and lastly ... they have come out with a new line of lipsticks that are 100% naturals however they might have beeswax ... i don't know for sure .... so i can't say if they are ALL vegan. This does the job, as well, and again, I don't have any complaints..or any real praises.I like this smell, also. It's about the same as the tea tree one, but with a different scent. (AC)

I don't use this often, but I think when I do..my hair is extra soft? I only use it if I have a few tangles. I don't think it leaves my hair too greasy. I guess I don't notice much about my hair..it does help with tangles, though. (AC)

I think we've also used this one, but I'm not really sure. If so, it works the same as the others...I don't remember the scent, though. (AC)

Vitamin C with Coq10
is wonderful for me. It is gentle enough for my very sensitive skin, doesn't lead to breakouts, and isn't drying either. It also removes makeup easily and the price is reasonable. I have been using it for about a year and wish I'd found it earlier. I can't find it locally and have purchased it from Amazon. (rkathleen)

I was using baking soda for my hair for about...5 months, but I couldn't find a good ratio. It was good in the beginning, and then it just stopped feeling clean, and was either too dry/weird feeling, or just greasy and matted like at the crown. Hmph. Honestly, shampoo feels so good now.
the baking soda thing always works for me to wash (i just make a paste with some water) but after awhile it leaves it kinda dryish feeling so i think following up with a conditioner is a good idea.
eta - i was using it for awhile then i was traveling and it was easier to use the hotel shampoo but i noticed that my hair would get oilier and gross way faster, like within the first day. now that im back to the baking soda it stays nice and clean longer.

Yeah, I was using vinegar with it at first, then switched to conditioner. At first, I was doing baking soda with conditioner only sometimes, but it stayed to dry, so I did conditioner everyday with it, and it was just weird. My hair definitely gets oilier faster with shampoo/cond., but it feels better overall. Hm.
I know there's been controversy regarding Original Source products, but they do say they don't test on animals and work closely with the vegan society, so giving them the benefit of the doubt...
Dragonfruit and Capsicum shower gel - Smells amazing and spicy, and the smell lingers. In a good way.
Goji berry and mallow shampoo - Was a seasonal offering last winter... I don't know if it comes around every year or if it was a one-off. Amazing and sweet, just the right combination of fruity and herbal/floral.
Watermint and lemongrass shower sorbet - Not quite as heavy-duty as the shower gels. It smells mild and fresh, but neither of the two stated components are particularly discernible. I like that it comes in a thin plastic pouch - it states that the bag-style packaging uses 50% less plastic. Always a bonus in my books.
White pear and avocado shampoo - My hair seems to like this! It makes a nice lather, which may prove it is hardly a 'natural' product (yay sls) but makes it very pleasant to use. I have very thick hair, but I didn't need to use as much of this as I have needed of other shampoos.
I bought a ton of stuff from E.L.F (going by the ingredients listed on the site) all for $25 and 1.99 shipping. I haven't tried it all, but I'll list it all, and come back. The stuff I tried, I liked!
Brightening eye color-rocker
Brightening eye liner-black
I'm used to liquid eye liner, so I never really got used to using a regular eyeliner, but I really like it so far! It goes on smoothly, and looks nice.
Brightening eye liner-ash
Slant tweezer
Hypershine lip gloss-bubblegum
Sometimes lip gloss will look like a nice color, but then be transparent, but this has a nice pink color. Just what I wanted. Smooth.
Tone correcting concealer-honey
This seems like the perfect color. Coverage seemed good, but I didn't put on a lot. Will be nice for spots.
Elements custom compact
This thing is really neat. It's still $1, and you buy the individual colors for $1. The compact has 4 spots, a mirror, and a brush thing. You can put in face stuff, or lip, or eye shadow. I think it's really neat.
Elements custom eyes-ivory
Elements custom eyes-sage
Elements custom lips-guava and nude blush
Elements custom face-shy
Bath gel-vanilla coconut
Bath hand soap-vanilla coconut
Candy shop lip gloss-frosting fanatic, coconut, candy(clearance discontinued?)
These things were .50, and I don't think they are going to be around anymore, but I really liked the one I tried. It even had good color.

I don't believe that all of their products are vegan. They don't test on animals, but specific products need to be checked for ingredients. I've never used them. Only the vegan products should be listed with reviews.
LUSH Cosmetics:
Bath Bombs:
- Butterball: This one doesn't do anything fancy like change the color of the water of deposit glitter but it is my favorite one! It smells like vanilla and is very moisturizing, perfect for winter skin. I recommend this to everyone, especially if you've never use a bath bomb before.
-World Peace: This was alright, it changed the color of the water slightly and smelled pretty good. Nothing special and I probably wouldn't buy it again.
-Big Blue: This one is really big and it changes the color of your water only slightly and leaves seaweed in your tub. It wasn't super moisturizing, I used it mainly to remind me of the ocean. It was alright but be prepared to clean up the seaweed unless you put the ball in a stocking first.
-Space Girl: I LOVE this one! It changes the water to this pretty light purple color and leaves a thin layer of glitter on the water. It smells amazing like nice fresh berries. I'd buy this one again and again. It's also cheaper than a lot of the other bath bombs.
Bath Melts:
-Happy Blooming: It makes your water kind of milky looking and deposits a nice amount of oils. It smells really good but if you don't like artificial scents than you probably wouldn't like this. It can be used as one or broken up into 3 pieces, much more econimocal than the other ones.
Bubble Bars:
-Flosty Gritter: Not sure if it was this or another product that made me itch but I was very itchy when I got out of the tub. It's probably my sensitivity to SLS though. Other than that it makes your water a light pink color and leaves a little glitter in your tub. It's not really that glittery at all but I was looking for lots of glitter so I was dissapointed with this.
Glorious Mud (UK only):
-I love this. I only need to use half of a cube at a time and it smells a bit like root beer. How I use it: Take your shower then turn off the water. Dry your hands off and keep the plastic on half of the bar and rub it onto your wet skin. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse. Pat dry or else you'll wipe off all of the good stuff.
Shampoo Bars:
-Godiva: This is one of the best and is one of the more moisturizing bars. It smells a-freakin'-mazing and is highly recommended.
-Seanik: This is great to get rid of build up and to give your hair a little lift. It has a very light scent and cleans well. Makes my head itch a little.
-New!: This is awesome for an itchy scalp and/or for dandruff and buildup. At times it can smell a bit like cigarettes but other than that it's awesome. Another that is highly recommended. Tip: Take out the cinnamon bark, it'll only rip your hair out.
-Karma Komba: LOVE this scent! I recommend anything Karma scented! This scent stays on your hair for a while and is soooo nice. Get it!
Liquid Shampoo:
-Rehab: I get tons of compliments with this stuff and it smells awesome (citrusy), it also gives my hair a lift. This also makes my head a little itchy though and personally I like solid product better.
Conditioner:
-Jungle: Hate it! I love the scent but HATE the products. You pretty much need to cut off chunks and mix it with boiling water to get it to work and I still hate it. It works better as a shaving bar but I would never buy this again.
-Veganese: Smells awesome, is very light and is not for people who need a lot of moisture. You need to use a lot of it but it still leaves my hair needing moisture. Not that fond of this.
Soap:
-Sunny Citrus: This lightly moisturizes and smells awesome. It's retro so you won't find it in stores.
-Demon In The Dark: Drying but smells sooooo awesome.
-Figs and Leaves: This left pieces of leaves in my tub! Other than that it was pretty nice.
-Karma: Light scented (not the best in the Karma line) and made me itch.
-Sexy Peel: Smells awesome and hasn't made me itch or dry out my skin. Cleans very well.
-Bohemian: I love the scent but can't remember if it dried out my skin or not. I'll come back to this later.
Emotibombs:
-Too Drunk: Works pretty well, it isn't super scented so I didn't smell a lot of it. You need to break it up and put it around your shower (on the sides of the tub) and one on the floor of the shower. Btw- I ate the eye of this and it tasted like mint chocolate...and just so you know, the eye is 100% edible.
Cleansers:
-Aqua Marina: Smells bad (like fish and seaweed) but if you use it in the shower then it won't smell that much. Other than that it is amazing and I love it! It's very good for combination to oily skin.
-Angels On Bare Skin: Smells nice and is exfoliating. Works great for combination to dry skin.
-Herbalism: This is my favorite. It smells awesome (herbal/earthy) and is exfoliating. It's great for combination skin, skin with acne and oily skin.
-Fresh Farmacy: I bought this because I have sensitive skin and this KILLED my skin. It was red, itchy, spotted- it was awful. I will never go near this product again. Also, after a week is turns into a useless solid block. Not even boiling water will change it from that.
Stepping Stones (UK Only):
-This is a TERRIBLE foot scrub but makes an amazing bath bomb! It smells sooo good and has so many nice oils in it. I love this and will buy it again but only use it as a bath bomb.
Body Butter:
-Buffy: This is totally worth the hype! It smells nice and moisturizes and exfoliates amazingly. Only rinse off the beads and pat dry the skin.
Face Moisturizers:
-Ultralight: This is NOT a light moisturizer. It is nice for combination to dry skin though.
-Imperialis: Smells great and is great for combination skin with acne! You only need to use a tiny bit.
Solid Serums:
-Saving Face: Very easy to use, smells good and works great. Is great for combination skin with acne. I use it as a facial moisturizer and I don't need to add more moiturizers.
****I have to get ready now but I will be back to this thread! I have about a thousand more LUSH products to review.****
Shampoo Bars:
-Godiva:This is one of the best and is one of the more moisturizing bars. It smells a-freakin'-mazing and is highly recommended.
I've never purchased Lush things before, so I didn't know they have the V next to vegan things! For some reason, I never saw that when looking.
The Godiva bar looks like it has lanolin in it. : \ At least, that's in the ingredients on the website. I don't know why it needs to be in one scent. Oh, wow. The "hard water" shampoo bar has lanolin and EGGS! :(

They reformulated Godiva and now it's vegan. I don't understand why they haven't updated the site yet, they've sent out emails and announced it right on the home page. They have it labeled correctly on the UK site: http://www.lush.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=218&option=com_virtuemart
If you do buy from them, I highly recommend buying from the UK site. All of the products are way cheaper, they have more products than the NA site does and the shipping is the same amount. Also, when you order from the UK your package will arrive a thousand times quicker. When I buy from the NA site (it comes from Canada) it takes a month for my package to arrive, when ordering from the UK it takes 1 week. Just make sure to choose Royal Mail for shipping.
Also, in the comment box for ordering ask for samples of different things and let them know you're vegan so the samples will be vegan. I've heard of people getting a whole bath bomb as a sample before.

Yeah, they're the same product. The NA site updates things really slowly though. I think I'm going to email them about it because that annoys me. There are a lot of vegans missing out on Godiva!
I emailed them and they labeled it now! http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/hair/solid-shampoos/godiva

Does anyone know anything about Avon, Benefit and Victoria Secrets cosmetics? Does anyone know if they test on animals or have any vegan products?
And isn't Mary Kay vegan?
Victoria secret has some vegan body stuff. They changed it from what it used to be. which is a downer, because I liked the originals better, I don't remember what they're called, but they're part of the Pink stuff, and they are labeled vegan.
Mary Kay and Avon are both listed as not testing on animals, but not all (probably not majority) of the products are vegan. I don't know anything about Benefit.
Jason natural products body wash
satin shower aloe vera
This is ok. It was a pretty good price on drugstore.com for such a huge bottle (and it has a pump lid, which is nice), but it doesn't really lather all that well. I just want to use a little bit, but it doesn't lather enough to do that. The smell is not that great, kind of neutral. I guess it's aloe? I don't know that I'd get it again, but I'd get a different scent if I did.
Tom's of Maine toothpaste
Like I said, I've tried a ton of varieties (strawberry and apricot gross), and most mint ones are good. However, the one for sensitive teeth (I don't really know why I got it) is strange. It seems thicker, and pastier. I don't like it.
Desert Essence
Facial Cleansing Pads
These work pretty well; I can always get a lot of dirt off with them. They take a bit of adjustment though - whenever I start using them again, the volatile tea tree oil burns my eyes a little bit, but after a couple days it goes away. Also, it has a *really* strong scent, so you really have to rinse well after using these if you don't want to... smell like tea tree.
