stoped wearing deoderant

Try sprinkling a little bit of baking soda in your hand and mixing it with a few drops of water til it becomes paste-like, then rub it into your pits. It works great for me, much better than conventional deodorants.

I put 4 tablespoons corn starch and 1 table spoon baking soda in a plastic container.  I keep that in my bathroom and just dip a little out each morning.  You could use a powder puff too.  It works great, I've been using it for about 6 months.  Baking soda alone burned my armpits really bad.

Does the cornstarch lessen/help the stainage? My pits have been darkened. I still love the baking soda though; I've used it for 1-2 years now.

yes!  my pits turned dark brownish red, and now it's fading

The only commercial deodorant I have found that works at all (for me) is the Jason's brand in lavender. It smells nice (much better than me) and works through most of the day.

Butttttt.....you could just stop wearing anything all together and just be free :) I only put on deo when I am going on a date any more--the rest of the week everyone gets to smell me right up! Ah! The way life should be ;p

good luck!!! <3

I use Tom's of Maine. I love their products! If you have a Big Lots, you can find their products discounted there or you can also find them at Target though kinda pricey.

i don't use anything anymore. i haven't used baking soda in quite some time, though i did use that for a couple of years (it works great, i am just too lazy to use it).

i feel bad for my co-workers if they have to smell me, so if i am stinky i try to wash my arm pits before work. i don't care if anyone else smells me because they aren't forced to be with me, so whatever.

Hespy and I are in the same boat.  I use baking soda whenever I remember and am not too lazy...which isn't often.  I keep an emergency stick of Toms of Maine in my purse in case there's a stink emergency at work or something.  ha.

when i first tried the crystal it didnt work, but then i tried again and now it works like a charm!
i only use it about once per week. i rarely smell. seriously.
i can wear the same shirt over and over and it really doesn't smell until about day 4.
that's with nothing, but the crystal. I put it on when my shirt starts to smell.
give it another try!

I have to say, I love this thread.  :>

I use baking soda straight-up, and it doesn't burn, but works well for me all day.  I have to reapply when I head to the gym, but a half-cup has lasted me over 3 months, and I still have more than half of it left.  Cheeeeeep!

P.S.  I wish they had a smiley face that was smelling roses or sniffing around.  I would totally use it now.

Yeah, I'm hooked on the crystal as well.
I bought some Jason's for a desert trip early this year that I had posted on before, but I found it actually exacerbated my natural odor more than not wearing any seemed to do.  Not a suggestion I'll make here--not to mention the $8  I'll never get back.  This still burns me.

^^

My mom gave me a crystal she'd bought in the seventies but had no luck with.  Count on my mom to keep something like this for that long.  Anyway, it works like a charm.  As others have said, I don't smell at all.  Ever.  It's pretty bomb.

I'd give it another go if I were you.

Tom's of Maine sold to Colgate-Palmolive.  http://www.tomsofmaine.com/business-practices/heritage.aspx
"We’ve grown in size and in 2006, we became part of the Colgate-Palmolive Company. But our simple, direct approach hasn't changed one bit: we listen to what our customers want (and don't want) in their products, we learn how it can be done, and we respond with effective natural(and sustainable) solutions."

I loved them, until that. :( They can say they don't test on animals or use the ingredients, but selling out to Colgate-Palmolive, is still selling out to me.

CRYSTAL= awesomeness, lasts for a really long time, easy to carry around with you (less bulky), and is healthier than the carcinogens we rub into our skin using other products...

I use the Crystal stone and I moisten it with Miracle 2 Neutralizer (I bought along with the Miracle 2 soap at a health food store)  It seemed to work for a while, but now I stink again lol.  I've noticed though some of my shirts come out of the dryer stinking under the arms.  Or smell fine until I apply heat from the iron and oh my...gross.  I've tried the Tom's of Main deodorants before and they didn't work for me.  But I've also tried every other brand of deodorant stick with no luck.  I'm going to try the baking soda and also add it to my wash load.

I use Aromaco from Lush! I absolutely love this store and spend way to much money whenever I go there lol!  http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/body/deodorants/aromaco

It smells really great and works wonderfully! I sweat a lot naturally, and it used to bother me. I've come to the conclusion that everyone sweats, and I don't really care anymore lol. The scent holds up great though. I'll let you know how it goes when I do one of my crazy workouts where I sweat more than {what I thought} was humanly possible  :-D

Baking soda! And lubimiller's advice with the cornstarch is golden! It works great! It's saving me money, and it actually works, compared to those 10 dollar clinical deos I've bought in the past.

My mom has always been anti-antipersperants (yes, I know, double-negative), so a few years back my three sisters and her had a stink-off where we each used a different aluminum-free deodorant and reported the results. Crystal, Jason, adidas cotton-based, and a couple of others - Tom's of Maine won!

I know that there are folks that think companies lose their soul when they sell to bigger companies (like Colgate), but there are some benefits too. Now more people can use Toms of Maine, annnd in the acquisition process (which took about 3000x longer than most small companies 'cause Tom was particular) Colgate learned from Tom about how to make less toxic products, and Tom got to retire with a bunch of $$$ to hang out with his grandkids.

Buy what you like, hope you don't buy enough that a big company woos them, but for product-performance, Toms won me hands down.

It is sad to see the small companies get bought out, but its a good thing in a way.  It makes it some small-town folks like me have more access to the previously small company's stuff.  Unless I want to do mail order, I usually read about products but never see them.

With natural deoderants, I find that they all work well for a while.  What I do is use one product/method until it doesn't work and then switch to another.  Generally by the time the next product stops working, one of the previously discared ones will.  I'm guessing its just the bacteria adapting to the environment they are in.  I usally have a couple produts in my bathroom and trade around every couple months.  I've always sweated more than most, and I'm paranoid about smelling.  Maybe if I lived in a different community I'd feel differently, but I don't want to give natural deoderants a bad rap nor veganism for that matter.  I might have to try the baking soda some time.
