Diabetic friendly and vegan?

any recommendatiosn outside of Dr Barnards books?

It's not entirely diabetic friendly and it's a baking book but I bought Sweet Freedom by Ricki Heller because a decent amount of recipes use agave nectar. My mother is a diabetic and was bummed out that she couldn't try a lot of the things I bake.

I recently bought 1,001 Delicious Desserts for People with Diabetes(edited by Sue Spitler). Recipes that are vegan are indicated by a "v." The Peach Streusel Bars(I used agave instead of honey) have become a favorite in my family.

I'm also looking for diabetic recipes that are low sodium.  Not looking for desert recipes though, looking for meal recipes.

I personally am looking for ideas to help my b/f who has type 2 and high blood pressure.  I am vegan, and I am looking to help him with his diet after a major incident related to his health!  :'(  I figure it'd be easier if I could cook for both of us, so I want low sodium/diabetic recipes.

I wouldn't sweat it.  It's easier than you think.  Diabetics really just need a whole foods healthy diet..perfect for vegan cooks to prepare.  Cook things that focus on whole foods, grains, vegetables, soy products, beans, nuts, etc.....well basically a good healthy whole foods vegan diet, and you BF should be able to eat it.  What trips diabetics up is processed foods.

When cooking whole it's easy to avoid salt....just stick with recipes that don't call for soy sauce.  Also the verdict is out on agave, so avoid it.

Are you discounting Dr. Barnard for some reason or just asking for other ideas since you're aware of him.  He wrote a good cookbook just out.

There's also:  (Browse some of the books taht are suggested below this book too.  Lots of vegetarian books, that might be adapted to a vegan diet.)
