Breakfast and Beverages
Power Pancakes     42

Breakfast Quinoa   43
This was sublime! I have had oatmeal with pomegranate molasses, as well as blueberry-lemon-balsamic vinegar but never thought to put them together!!  I used blueberry-pomegranate juice, instead of pure pomegranate (store was out), frozen blueberries, and the zest from 1 lemon and this was decadent. My only issue was that it took more like 35 minutes for my quinoa to cook up and absorb the pomegranate juice, instead of 15-20 minutes. Did not add almonds. (blinknoodle)
Chia Power Pudding   44
I'm not so much reviewing, as I am asking about this. My chia seeds sat in the juice overnight and still, very minimal puddingness! I am curious if this is my chia seeds--they were $3 and very expired. If anyone else has made this I'd love to hear how it came out and how thick yours got. I hate to blame the poor chia seeds but this recipe is so simple and the ingredients are simple that's the only thing I can think of! (aggplanta)
I bought a new bag of chia seeds and this came out awesome! My old chia seeds must have lost their pudding power. I at ea couple spoonfulls at breakfast and was craving more mushy fruity goodness a few hours later--very refreshing. (aggplanta)
Sweet and Savory Breakfast Fritters   45

Frozen Bananas     46

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Shake   47
This was really good. Oops, I just noticed I used twice the amount of maca, but it was still good! I feel like all that agave is not worth the use of the raw cacao powder. Carob powder can also be substituted if you want to reduce your use of agave, but the original recipe is very nice and rich as is. (blinknoodle)
Eye Love You Smoothie   48

Spicy Pumpkin Pie Shake   49

Sunrise Smoothie   50

Strawberry Vanilla Milkshake     51
I found this to be much thicker than the other smoothies (probably because there are more frozen strawberries). I ended up adding more soymilk to compensate. Otherwise, I thought it was great. (blinknoodle)
Blueberry Bliss Smoothie   51

Acai The Light Smoothie     52

Maca My Day   53
This was how I got hooked on breakfast smoothies. All that malty maca goodness.  I used sweetened (original) soy milk.. I never buy the flavored kinds, but I bet the chocolate soy would work really well here, too. I have also added in greens here with good results. (blinknoodle)
Lemon Lime Aid  54

Pineapple Hibiscus Cooler   55

Sweet Almond Milk   56

Sauces and Dressings
Miso Healthy Dressing     58

Guilt Free Ranch Dressing   59

Maple Mustard Dressing   60
Used honey-flavoured mustard so  I used less maple syrup but otherwise thought the dressing was fantastic. (blinknoodle)
this was quick and easy and I put over steamed veggies and brown rice, it had a good flavor, but maybe a little strong on the mustard, I may have put a little too much in there, but when I mixed everything together and added seasoned salt, it was really good. (stacydan)
Lemon Ginger Miso Dressing     61

Ume Sesame Dressing     62

Ginger Soy Dipping Sauce     62

Onion Dill Miso Dressing   63
Honestly, when I first saw the ingredient combo I thought "ew". But I had just had a complete salad dressing failure so I was feeling like I might as well try anything. THIS IS SO GOOOOD. The taste is unusual, I'm not sure how to describe it except that it's savory, a bit tangy and mmmmmm! I think it makes a particularly good complement to hearty, grainy foods. I had it on a kale-hemp-grated carrot salad but am really dying to have it over some pan-fried tempeh or roasted veggies. In fact, this may have to be part of dinner tonight. Thanks for another vitalizing recipe Tess! (aggplanta)
Everyday Chicky Gravy     64

Sweet N Sour Sauce     65

Pretty Pico   66

Chicky Baby Seasoning   67

Snacks and Dips
Sweet N Spicy Turmeric Popcorn   70

Zesty Lemon Kale Chips   71

Babaganoush   72

Sprouted Dipper Chips     73

Spicy Moroccan Sweet Potato Fries     74
I really wanted to like these, but for some reason, these didn't work out for me. They weren't finished after 20 minutes, and after maybe 5-10 minutes more, I felt like the spices had burnt instead. I prefer the "Oven fries" from RHIW. (blinknoodle)
Rawcho Cheese Dip   75
I was in a snacky kind of mood and had a bag of Stacy's bagel chips that had sounded good but I didn't have anything dippy.  So I made this-super quick and easy to make and Yummy!  I ate almost the whole thing by myself! (stacydan)
This is mouthwateringly delectable!  The flavors work really well together and make a tangy, cheesy taste. I think I did just a tad more water/lemon than needed (I am not a careful measurer) so it was a bit runny so I added some more cashews and it firmed right up to more "dip" texture. This is so easy to wip together and so delicious I recommend you try it right away! (aggplanta)
Bold Lime Kale Krunchers   76

Green Velvet Guacamole   77
Lovely and simple guacamole. I even upped the lime juice and garlic a tad. I bet this isn't a green recipe if you just eat half of the recipe in a go! Ack! (blinknoodle)
Supercharged Hummus     78
I scoped out the umeboshi paste to try this and went with the juice from 2 lemon (less than 1/2 cup). I tried it without so much lemon and it wasn't as good. This makes a nice, zippy hummus and best when paired with something bitter. I actually loved it in a wrap with Romaine lettuce, flax seeds, almonds and prunes! (blinknoodle)
Zippy Dippy   79

Vegan Cheese Sticks     80-81

Raw Cinnamon Rolls     81
I did something wrong with these because they were not "ball-like" consistency, it was all crumbly and not sticky at all.  The taste was Awesome though and so I've just been spooning the mixture on top of pancakes, oatmeal, etc.  I loved the flavor, I just wished I could have made balls out them.  I probably used the wrong kind of dates, i've never used dates before, the bag said pitted dates and they were kinda small, but I measured 1/2 cup; so I don't know.  (stacydan)
Stacy: The problem you had with the raw cinnamon rolls....you really have to PACK those dates into the cup. If you have too few dates, they won't stick. It makes all the difference! Try a few more dates (or really packing them into the measuring cup) next time & make sure you blend it enough. That should do the trick. (quintess)
Lemon Fig Balls     82

Gingersnap Nuggets     83
The walnut-raisin combo is good for a change of pace from my typical almond/date balls, as they are a bit more non-uniform in texture. Initially they were very zingy from the ginger (I use Penzey's if that makes a difference for the potency) so if you don't like ginger, decrease it. Despite the strong flavour, they were ok as an energy snack during exercise. Not my favourite, though. (blinknoodle)

Sides and Starters
Roasted Rosemary Butternut Squash     86

Power Potatoes       87

Umeboshi Rice     88

Lovely Lemon Spaghetti Squash   89

Rustic Rebel Risotto       90

Fast and Forbidden Fried Rice     91

Fresh Summer Rolls     92-93

Miso Sesame Edamame   94

Ben’s Veggie Pack   95
This wasn't a very complex recipe, but it was very good.  I made the whole recipe, then ate the whole thing too.  Added a touch more kale than the recipe called for and reduced the oil by half. (katequeenofsprouts)
Fresh Shiitake Sesame Spring Rolls       96-97

Soups and Sammies
Holy Shiitake Lentil Soup   100
This soup is filled with lentils (I chose green) with fresh sliced shiitakes and kale, spiced with garlic and balsamic vinegar. It cooks up as quick as your lentils and is very tasty! I really like it. (blinknoodle)
Simple Sesame Miso Soup      101

Ginger Lime Carrot Soup   102
This was so good! I used more like 2.5 cups carrots and 2 cups sweet potato. Mixing in the Vitamix made it uber creamy without any cream (just unsweetened almond milk!). Delicious! (blinknoodle)
15 Minute White Bean and Kale Soup   103
I liked this soup! Super fast! So many complex flavours but I preferred it with 1-2 tbsp of nutritional yeast also thrown in. I halved the recipe, using 2 cups of cooked giant lima beans. Doubled the kale, though. Used lemon pepper instead of pepper. Otherwise, great! (blinknoodle)
Thai Coconut Treasures Soup   104

Rockin Red Tempeh Wrap   105

Crunchy Tempeh Fajitas   106-107

Chicky Chickadillas   108-109

BBQ Chickadillas      110-111

Grilled Cheese Greatness   112

Sexy Salads and Vibrant Veggies
Uptown Salad     114-115
Holy Sweet Jesus. This was the best salad EVER. Buy the cookbook just for this recipe. Baby spinach, topped with a cilantro-lime rice, black beans, shredded veggies, garlic tofu and a decadent mango-cilantro salsa. So many delicious components to make the most epic of a salad.  This is what dreams are made of! (blinknoodle)
Springtime Celebration Salad       116

Perfect Tabouli     117

Asparagus Walnut Sunshine Salad     118
I like meal-type of salads, so I cooked up 1/2 cup dry quinoa and omitted the red onions. Topped with the dressing and toasted pecans, this was wonderful. (blinknoodle)
Broccoli Orange Salad     119
This salad needs at least an hour or so to marinade for the flavours to meld. Even then, I found it too sweet, so I threw in 1/4 tsp Aleppo chili flakes which balanced it out and made it much better. I used the full 2 tsp of agave, so maybe that should be decreased, too... or add in some vinegar? I feel like this recipe needs some tweaking written as is. (blinknoodle)
Mediterranean Pasta Salad     120

Almost Raw Quinoa Toss     121

Zingy Cranberry Ginger Salad     122

Umeboshi Sesame Kale     123

Broccoli Fig Salad     124

Simple Pickled Beets     125

Basic Grilled Asparagus     126

Garlic Lover’s Broccoli     127

Citrus Beets with Maple Orange Walnuts     128-129
I love roasted beets and pickled beets so I wanted to give this a try to round out my beety-love. This wasn't my favorite. Not the recipe's fault...I think I've just come to expect beets to be salty or sour and the extra sweet of the orange didn't jive with my expectation. My boyfriend and I both adored the maple-orange walnuts though! I kind of want to try them over vanilla ice cream...maybe with a rum-caramel sauce? Hmm. And I think I'd like to try roasting and salting my beets and using the marinade as inspiration for a vinaigrette and of course the walnuts! (aggplanta)

Divine Entrées
Black eyed Pea and Potato Tacos     132-133

Fresh and Fast Thai Tofu Bowl     134-135

Springtime Stir fry   136

Lemon Asparagus Quinoa Toss   137
This was great! Nice, light and fresh. My only change was I used a bit more lemon juice, and I substituted lemon pepper instead of black pepper. (blinknoodle)
YUMMY!  My very first time to cook asparagus, I didn't roast it because it was 108 here and I didn't want to turn the oven on, so I just stirfried it with xvoo and fresh pressed garlic.  The only quinoa I had was the red, but it was still good, I added a little seasoned salt to the final dish.  It was strangely addictive!  It says it makes 2 servings and it looked like two servings, but I could not stop eating it and ate the whole thing!  Without one ounce of guilt.  It was quick and easy, especially with stirfrying the asparagus everything was done in the time it took the quinoa to cook! (stacydan)
I always eat the whole recipe of lemon asparagus quinoa in one sitting myself, so don't feel bad! I just labeled it as "serves 2" even though it never does in my house! (quintess)
Wild Rice and White Bean Fritters   138

Tropical Curry Slurry       139

Happiness Bowl     140-141

Asian Quinoa Wraps   142
These were good. I made some changes: doubled the cilantro, included lime zest, and omitted the garlic (ran out!). I also halved the recipe and for the dressing, instead of using 1/2 tbsp, I used the measurements in 1 tsp (so I used a third of the dressing, when I halved the recipe).  That flavour was good, although quite zippy from the ginger. It tamed well as leftovers, though. It was my first time eating soaked quinoa. I liked it - slightly chewy and I feel like it worked well for the wraps. However, the quinoa really goes thump in your stomach! I halved the recipe, and I think half of the recipe could serve 3. I felt like my reduced amount of dressing was perfect, though. (blinknoodle)
Sweet and Simple Glazed Tempeh   143

Green Tea and Pineapple Rice w/ Coconut Tofu   144-145

Hungarian Chickpeas     146
I made a few changes: used shallot instead of onion; used currants instead of raisins; used Vietnamese coriander for the cilantro (more lemony taste, but what I had available in my garden); omitted olives (once I tasted it without it, I didn't feel the need to open a new container); omitted extra salt since I was using canned beans.  Anyways, it was delicious. I love how it was creamy without any cream or tofu.  Thank you mustard! (blinknoodle)
I had it cold one day for lunch, but the next day I heated it up and I think I like it even better warm.  I wasn't sure about the raisins in there, but all the flavors blended and it worked well.  I like that I didn't have to cook anything, just mix everything one bowl and I'm done - Perfect for summer! (stacydan)
We had this delicious little dish for dinner one night with sweet potatoes and broccoli. I loved the smoky paprika flavor and the combination of raisins and kalamata olives was a great sweet-tangy kick. It also turned out really saucy which I loved--you could put this over rice and really get the most out of this. (aggplanta)
10 Minute Kalesadillas        147

Feel Fabulous Noodles     148-149

Smoky One Pot Beans and Rice   150
I made a lot of substitutions but it was great. I used coarse bulgur instead of rice, so this was also fast to make. Just long enough for the bulgur to absorb the boiled water = 15 minutes! I used a combo of chickpeas and red kidney beans (2 cups total) and added 1 cup of packed Swiss chard instead of kale. A nice zippy bowl of beans and grains with greens. Fast and tasty. (blinknoodle)
Our Daily Pizza     151

Immune Boon Noodles     152-153
I really liked this dish! Basically you have a noodle bowl topped with a miso-ginger dressing, stir-fried veggies (shiitakes, edamame, green onions and I also added broccoli) with pan-fried tofu. I substituted some Braggs for the tamari and used kelp noodles. Other than my noodles not mixing well with the veggies, I really liked the combination of flavours. (blinknoodle)
Pineapple Tempeh with Red Rice     154-155
I liked this but wasn't as blown away as I hoping, considering how many steps are involved in making this. Next time I would add more kale - it seemed so skimpy after it wilted away. (blinknoodle)
Feel Good Mac N Cheese     156

Sweet Bliss
Key Lime Pie with Coconut Ginger Crust     158

Rawkin Superfood Truffles   159

Pineapple Right Side Up Cake   160

Kick Acai Strawberry Sauce   161

Maca Chip Cookies     161
Another delicious energy cookie. Love the malty goodness from maca. (blinknoodle)
Mango Paradise Bars     162
These were great. Tess suggests serving them straight from the freezer but I find the mango flavour gets muted, so I prefer to let it thaw 5 minutes before I eat it. If you let it thaw too long it will turn back into a creamy pudding! (blinknoodle)
Raw Carob Maca Chocolate     163

Raw Cacao Superfood Pie   164-165

Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies     165
These are seriously yummy! I mixed in 1 tbsp of cacao nibs because I knew if they were only a coating they wouldn't transport so well n my bike ride. (blinknoodle)
Blueberry Coconut Ice Box Bars   166

Heavenly Raw Chocolate Sauce   167
I liked this too, however I found it had a strong agave flavour when fresh. I used organic raw blue agave but feel that maybe a light agave would have a more neutral flavour to highlight the cacao and maca. It definitely thickens as leftovers. You can heat the leftovers up to make it more pourable, but within a few minutes, it is back to being quite firm.  I had it with blackberries overtop my morning oatmeal. Yum! (blinknoodle)
Cacao Cacao Chip Cookies     168
Really liked these. Not overly flavoured, nor too sweet, which is great when snacking while exercising! I liked the cacao nibs because they were like little chocolate chips! The figs added a nice textural variety, too. Yum! (blinknoodle)

Thanks for posting, AC! I have a recipe tester who is itching to review here, so I'll send her the link. :)

I was one of the recipe testers and was thrilled with the recipes. I liked how the majority of the recipes were fast to make and super tasty.  Tess highlights recipes with superfoods - both the vegetable stars like kale, asparagus, etc but also chia seeds, maca, etc which required me to head to the grocery store.  I will post my old reviews in a few days, in the meantime I made this for breakfast:

Smoky One Pot Beans and Rice

I just got my copy of R4L in the mail. Youpee!
Nearly everything was a success. I don't even think I could narrow down my favourites, there were so many great recipes.

Asian Quinoa Wraps
These were good. I made some changes: doubled the cilantro, included lime zest, and omitted the garlic (ran out!). I also halved the recipe and for the dressing, instead of using 1/2 tbsp, I used the measurements in 1 tsp (so I used a third of the dressing, when I halved the recipe).  That flavour was good, although quite zippy from the ginger. I really liked this dish! Basically you have a noodle bowl topped with a miso-ginger dressing, stir-fried veggies (shiitakes, edamame, green onions and I also added broccoli) with pan-fried tofu. I substituted some Braggs for the tamari and used kelp noodles. Other than my noodles not mixing well with the veggies (???) I really liked the combination of flavours.

I haven't made this dish but have found chia seeds to be very absorbent and I've gotten mushy puddling like consistency when I've let it soak in things like yogurt or even oatmeal.

Raw Cinnamon Rolls
I prefer these with more cinnamon and less salt. Simple and delicious.

Rustic Rebel Risotto
-Thought this was great! Loved the flavours. My rice was a bit crunchy and not as smooth as a typical risotto but darn, this was easy peasy. Only used 3 tbsp Chicky baby seasoning and no additional salt. Also used sweetened almond milk since that was all I had.

Holy Shiitake Lentil Soup
- Made this again. Really enjoyed it. Only used 2 tbsp Chicky Baby seasoning and less salt at the end. I am thinking next time I will use fresh rosemary, especially since it is thrown in at the end. Very good soup and quick to make.
