I also wanted to clarify the reason I was so pleased about my ability to blow off 'the friend' wasn't about getting even or being a bitch, it was about doing something that was good for me even though it was hard. A month ago, I wouldn't have been able to resist writing back a long, witty email. My initial reaction when I saw I had a message from him was still excitement, but I was able to control that and assess the situation before making a decision about how to respond. Progress!

I have a question about the FROF. If, let's say, the third conversation isn't good, is:
1. communication cut and it's all over?
2. that conversation doesn't count, but the next once counts as the third conversation? or
3. the count starts at one for the next conversation?

I would also like clarification. I did not know Foofie invented the rule of fours and I had tried it previously, but this must be where I screwed it up. I think I counted things when they weren't supposed to count.

MDV, I think that you're absolutely right- you proved your point to yourself and that is what matters. It's ok that you still liked getting an e-mail from him; I think that's normal. For a long time, I relished in getting e-mails/texts/calls from the ex... but I had to resist giving any feedback whatsoever so that he knew it was over. I really (deep down) hated it, when I got honest with myself, because I didn't want him to move on- I wanted him to keep wanting me, even though I didn't want him. This moratorium is so good for me.
