Boot Camp (Let's make this a thread on accountability)

OK, I am going to measure and weigh myself on Saturday.  For those of you that said some of your summer goals were to lose weight and get fit....hope you will join this thread.

Not that I am going to post my weight and measurements but maybe I need to be accountable.

Sooooooo... I will make a comment on Saturday.  Then every Saturday, I am going to say weight lost and inches lost. (remember that if you gain muscle the scale will not move or go up.  Use a tape measure)

I truly am going to put myself through boot camp.  The program I have been watching on TV has shown that in 6 weeks with real effort, one can make a huge difference.

As well, I am going to comment each Saturday on how am reaching the goals I stated for the summer.

We all stated goals for the summer.  Let us all be accountable.  Some we will attain, some we may fall short on but lets all support each other.

When the fall officially starts (when the h*ll is that?), we can state what we actually achieved.

Sometimes our cyber friends are our best friends.  We are non judgemental and hugely supportive.

I know for me, the hugest thing is quitting smoking.

Next, getting fit and healthy.  One of my goals is to walk and hike with Cali more.  That will fall in to the get fit and healthy boot camp thing.

One was to spend more time with Biko.  I clip his wings in the summer, he prefers to walk anyway.  I will start taking him to the park on my walks with Cali.  That way he can feel he is a part of my life.

Spending more time with my BF.  He is hugely busy, I am hugely busy.  This is going to be a tough one.

De-cluttering....I am ready.  I want it done and I want it done now. I am finally so sick of the mess that I want to do it,  Get it done!

So guys, lets have a huge reach your summer goals support group.  No better place than this board.

Veg on...

I made some sour dough starter Sunday which won't be ready to use for a few days.

Is it vegan? Will you tell me hooowwww to do it?

I know I could probably look it up, but I've been reluctant.

Starter

1 1/2 cups unsifted flour
1 Tbsp. vegan cane sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. active dry yeast
2 cups warm water

Combine all dry ingredients in a ceramic crock or large non-metallic bowl.  Gradually add water and beat 2 minutes with a wire whisk.  Cover and let stand at room temperature for 4 days.  Stir down daily.  The fluid will separate some.

Basic Sour Dough

5 - 6 cups unsifted flour
2 Tbsp. vegan cane sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 cup soy milk
2 Tbsp. Earth Balance Buttery Spread
1 1/2 cups starter

Mix 1 cup of flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a large bowl.  Heat the soy milk and EB until warm, EB doesn't have to melt.  Gradually add to dry stuff beating until smooth.  Add the starter and 1 additional cup of flour and beat to make a thick batter.  Stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.  Knead 8 - 10 minutes.  Place in a greased bowl turning once, cover and let rise for an hour.  Punch down and let sit for 10 minutes.  Divide in half to use loaf pans or shape and let rise another hour.  Bake at 400F for about 30 minutes.

Refresh the remaining starter by adding 1 cup of lukewarm water, 1/2 cup flour and 1 tsp. sugar.  Beat for a minute and cover until ready to use again.  I've kept a batch of starter going for several months before.

mmmmmm, sourdough.

Did you know that sourdough bread has a distinct flavor based on where it is made?  It is because each city has its own distinct minerals in its water.  So certain regions are famous for their sourdough bread because of this.  I learned that from Alton Brown.

I'm going to have distinct weasiepea sourdough. Alton is too meaty...I used to love Alton..

I watched all Feasting on Asphalt episodes multiple times, took notes, wrote down every destination that we went to..and mapped out a trip.

You did it too, didn't you? I'm holding you accountable.

No, but I did download every single episode of Good Eats I could find illegally from my school's hub and burn them onto DVD's.

Boy---do I have my work cut out for me!  I can't really excercise yet, but woah...

right above my incision I have this HUGE girth that just hangs over. Its disgusting. I can't imagine how it will go away.

I don't get it, but pants that fit when I was pregnant are now too tight.  :-\ ???

I am down 8 pounds (after giving birth do a 6 pounder) and need to lose 25 more.

At this point I can take walks, but nothing strenuous. I'm not even supposed to lift anything over 6 lbs or drive!

Maybe you "have everything you always did, but a bit lower"? Or as Norma Rae put it in the eponymous movie: "Ah wuz good at 18, but since then things have kinda slipped and slid."
Rest, let your body recoup, and then when you get the green light from the DR you can do some getting in shape exercises.

i somehow gained ANOTHER pound.  lame.

i mean i did eat some chocolate chip cookies last night.. but only 3!  ::)

is it possible that i'm gaining muscle from my wimpy 'exercises' i do each day?  if not, i think it's pretty stupid that my metabolism is so terrible that i can change nothing in my eating habits and gain 4 pounds in 4 days.

ARG!

FINALLY....I lost a pound.  I weighed in at 170 this morning and would have done the snoopy dance if it weren't for my back.  It is supposed to rain basically all day today so I don't know if I'll get enough of a break to make it to the park.  I did the usual three miles on Monday and really had to pick up the pace the last quarter mile as it began to sprinkle.  Getting in my car all wet and soggy is not an option....you can never get that stinky damp smell out once it gets in your car.  I also went out and bought a pedometer for the park and a foam mat so I can do the exercises for physical therapy properly.  Freakin' $26.00 for a foam rubber mat....what a ripoff.  I'm not a penny pincher, but that rubbed me the wrong way.

I walked 4 km (which is what, 2 miles and a bit?) in just over an hour this morning. I'm only weighing every 2 weeks to see if there's a cumulative loss.

I think, perhaps, I'll start doing that too.  Weighing in everyday is kind of depressing.  Logically, I know I'm not going to just drop a lot of weight fast, but I still get discouraged when it doesn't change day after day.  Still at 170 today.

it IS depressing.  i gained 4 pounds in one day!  i'm up over 120 again for the first time in weeks...  my physical activity has been pretty much gone lately, because i've been so tired.  even though i know that if i exercised, i'd have more energy.  my goal for the weekend is to eat less 'heavy' foods (yesterday i had felafel AND seitan and it's just..sitting on me) and resume my exercise process.  hopefully i'll get back down to what i was at.  i'm just pretty much completely bummed out about this.

well.. long time since i updated on here.. i have lost 2lbs total.. but i have gained 3lbs of muscle, so thats like 5lbs of fat lost.. right?

i started out this little bootcamp thingy at 129 and now i am down to 127 (which is still more than i weighed before i went back to LA for 3 weeks :() but at least im going down and not up..

i have been swimming everyday.. i swam just under a mile 2 days ago.. (tho alot of it has been in a pool and i guess the pool here is 85% chlorine, cuz my freshly bleached hair is BRIGHT CHLORINE GREEN after swimming for an hour.. it looks pretty cool tho.. like it glows in the dark)

but this last week i was bad and only did yoga 3 times, and drank 5 days out of 7 days..  it was my husbands birthday tho and he was home for 2 days before that, and i never get to see him since hes always studying, so we had some drinks and watched some movies, so i think thats ok..

also, another thing i have started is drinking shittons of water.. before i drank maybe .5L a day.. now i am up to 2L a day.. so thats good

oh and im trying not to eat after 10 or 11pm each night.. i go to sleep at like 2 so thats a few hours before i go to sleep.. before i was eating liek after midnight and stuff, cuz i like to nibble on all the yummy stuff i make hehe..

another fun thing i did was be a model for a scuba dive equipment company called Aeris, so there should be pics of me up on their website in a few weeks, and in their catalog by October.. and they gave me a free dive computer/watch for doing it! score! thats like $500!.. so yeah.. thats me so far..

Yeah, it was getting too darn depressing. Maybe when I get to the nutritionist in September things will improve. I had really hoped that the thyrosine would make a big, noticeable difference. But all it did was stop the gain, at nearly the weight I was 5 years ago. I am like 185 lbs now and I need to lose at least 20. If I can get down to 80 kg I will be happy.

Over the weekend, I gained 12 pounds....after one night of drinking chamomile tea, I had lost 5 pounds....and now post period, I'm down to 112.....DAMMIT!! I'd love to keep some of the weight, but it was ALL water!

Sorry I haven't been checking in this week...I've been hugging the pillow w/ cramps, nausea, bloating, moodswings....etc (hmm...think this update belongs on the "happy period" thread instead?)

eta: pooh bear, I haven't forgotten about you, I've been calling my friend and have yet to hear back from her.

I think swimming is really good exercise because you end up using so many different muscles at the same time. Plus, it is very easy on the joints.

I really want to practice swimming so I can feel like I wouldn't drown if I was thrown out of a hypothetical boat, but it's really hard aerobically for me. Because I end up so out of breath, I then get scared I'm going to drown in the middle of the pool...making myself even more out of breath. I keep planning to get in shape aerobically, then start swimming, but the swimming never happens because I never feel like I'm in good shape. Maybe I should take a class sometime to make me do it regularly...

Oh, and I'm not actively participating in this thread with numbers because I'm too embarrassed, but I'm also trying to get back in shape, not just creepily stalking people. The successes I'm reading about are making me feel like it's possible, which is good =)
