This thread is dedicated to any vegan mishaps that you may have had which you did not know about before. Hopefully this thread can help prevent come common vegan associated problems before they start.
I'd like to make a suggestion to anyone about to thaw out frozen bananas. Make sure you thaw them in a bowl or on a plate! I thawed mine out on my countertop which is made of either marble or some type of ceramic, and there are now brown banana shaped stains that won't come off! I've tried soap, hot water, and baking soda and nothing seems to work!
LOL ;D
Sorry Camillus, nothing much to contribute in terms of removing banana stains but the thought made me laugh. I did something like this but left them in the fridge. They were very ripe and uh juicy. And smelly.
what about vinegar/bicarb? salt? lemon juice?
Congrats Baypuppy!! 2K!!!
Wow, 2k posts for the Pup! And on my thread, wooot! Congrats!
I'm sorry, I have no suggestions for the banana shaped stains. But I have the best image in my head right now.
Yowsers baypuppy, you're on a roll! I aspire to be like you someday 8)

Nice! I KNOW I've done dumb things, trying to think of them.....not particularly veg, but the first time I tried mangos I ate them like a peach, with the skin on!!! Then it took me a while to figure out why I had a really bad sore throat & herpes-looking sores all over my lips ::)
Speaking of mangoes... they're a relatively new fruit to me. I knew to peel them but that's about it. How do you know if it's ripe? Is there an easy way to cut the fruit off of the pit?
Hmmmm... to stay on topic... mishaps... I can't think of any now but I'm more than positive I've done something funny that I could share...
Mangos should feel soft like a ripe peach, that is my best comparison.
Another mishap, not necessarily vegan happened when I got my very first food processor. I made some hummus as my first thing and I licked the blades clean. Now this is something you obviously shouldn't do unless you are very careful, but still.... those things are sharp! Just don't do it, your hand could slip!
Try making a paste of bicarb and vinegar ON the enamelled worktop (it will foam, so sprinkle generous bicarb, and add water). Let it sit for like 5 min and then rub well with a Scotchbrite pad or similar.
I don't know whether you have access to Cillit Bang cleaners but they have some good ones.
Camster, what a conversation piece to talk about when people ask what the 'banana' shaped stain could possibly be. You should wink, very slowly when people ask and say "Overripe bananas of course, if you know what I mean."
As far as mishaps, the first time I made seitan, I boiled it (for far too long) because by the time I went to eat it, it had the texture of a tire. It actually made me gag until I tried it the proper way later. Also when I made the BIG bread on here...it was like a 8 x 12 biscuit haha

I'm pretty sure I ate the skin the first time I ate a mango, too!! ;D

UH... in your experience your "banana" leaked on the counter and stained it... I dunno if I'd advertise. ;)

Yeah, I'd have that junk checked out, man.
There are actually outlines of 2 of them.... I've been busy!

Check out this older thread Meggs...

Madhur Jaffrey (god bless her) says you should sit in the bath to eat a ripe mango they are that juicey. You can use green unripe mangoes in salads - really good in a Thai style salad shredded.
those 'majick" erasers I've found work wonders for unusual stains..and not so unusual ones as well .
Hey! Don't go airing all of my dirty laundry on vegweb!

I've heard that magic erasers contain formaldehyde ?!? Anyone know how I/we can confirm this.. It would be a shame if they do, cuz they work like hot damn (maybe its the formaldehyde?!)
