22% of the world getting fatter

Great News! McDonald's just posted a 22% gain in earnings.  >:( Why is that the more news that comes out about how the world getting fatter and more unhealthy each day, the more they run out to McDonald's and the other fast food joints (is it really food) ?! I guess more cows, pigs and chickens suffer as well. I would add fish, but are those McFish sandwich things really fish (or whatever they are called)? :P

There is hope!  The McDonald's by where I work went out of business due to low sales.

It was one of only a small number of places to eat in the worker-dense area and it still couldn't attract customers.  And - it was also the only restaurant in the area with a deep fryer.  All of the other restaurants (still in business) give you a fruit or veggie side option.

We had a Burger King go under on one of our busiest restaurant roads last year.  They finally tore the building down last fall and, get this...built an organic apothecary.  loveitloveitloveit

When we first moved to our neighborhood, there were open fields & a small business park. The park housed a gym, some misc small business's & a small donut shop. In the summer, they would cook their donuts in the evening & the neighborhood was filled with the smell of fresh donuts. It was wonderful! Over the years the area has been developed & the donut shop moved & now there is a Burger King & McDs & the summer evenings are filled with the stench of animal based fast food. It is quite disgusting some nights.

And to add insult to injury, the fields we use to walk our dog in, have been bought & are being developed by Walmart.  :P  My community seems so short sighted regarding big box stores. We just passed a bill to subsidize a Lowe's too.   >:(
