Center for Consumer Freedom - Not so much

Ok, I just found a website that makes me really mad, especially their "ad campaigns." Supposedly they are fighting for consumer freedom, but if you look in the "about us" section, they are vague about who exactly they are but something put up a red flag for me: "The Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit coalition of restaurants, food companies, and consumers " So restaurants and food companies... I wonder who that includes, McDonalds and Monsanto?

It seems like Bush's Clear Skies Initiative.  It sounds good but isn't.  Since most people just read the name and think, "I support clear skies," they'll support the imitative because they won't bother informing themselves that the Clear Skies Initiative was about increasing air pollution.

Same thing here, the Center for Consumer Freedom wants fewer regulations to protect our health because if we are willing to buy, like the recent China example, food made from chopped cardboard and animal fat, then who are the government and consumer protection groups to stand in the way?

Hey now... we all know that if people on the SAD diet eat a little chopped cardboard they may be getting more nutrition from that cardboard than anything else they eat! ;)  :D

Yeah.  I didn't think it being an important source of fiber for them, either.

Wow...I just wonder how they found people to air in those commercials, especially the one where the women are saying that PETA doesn't want to cure cancer, they made it sound like animal testing is really no big deal and should be done all the time for everything! Wow, to have such little moral fiber...guess eating veggies has a better effect to your health then I thought, it also makes you compassionate! I'm glad I'm not some money hungray nit wit who would support a cruel and unethical and unnecessary cause just to make a few bucks!

People make me sick!

Morgan Spurlock's "Don't Eat This Book" discusses this website in a little more length and basically says it's BS and the guy who runs it works on behalf of those companies that VegAnna mentioned, among others. Personally I love the headline stating that trans fat isn't making us sick or giving us cancer; people are getting those illnesses because they're living longer. I guess we don't want that pesky life longevity making us sick!  ::)

Michelle Simon's book Appetite for Profit discusses the CCF at length.  It's basically a (food, tobacco, and alcohol) industry front group.  I recommed Michelle's book to anyone.

Here is Sourcewatch's page about CCF:

Thanks for the website! It was very enlightening reading! I am especially glad they posted the companies that contributed money to this @!*#&%*! group, now we can black list them!

Also, does anyone know where the CCF got the information that PETA has killed 12,000 animals??? I wouldn't fut it past the CCF to just make up that number but I was curious if their was actual, or should  say another source it came from.
