Check out this link a co worker sent me (anti raw/vegan christian based)

http://chetday.com/hdiet.php

This is the link a collegue sent me that she thought was important for me to "consider" and agrees with her philosphy.  I belive its a diet that is 85%raw and vegan.

"The contention that animal fat and protein can cause cancer, heart disease, or shorten your life is unsubstantiated baloney preached by individuals whose motives are questionable at best and unconscionable at worst.

Here's just one shocking fact the Westbrooks discovered through their extensive research:

They could not find a single scientific study that linked clean, wholesome meat with disease."

Have you ever read The China Study????

Wow.  :o

I am used to this by now of course but I don't share with people about their diets unless they ask or we are actively having a conversation.

CHINA STUDY thank you.  ;D

am i evil if this just makes me laugh at how stupid people are?

Yeah, its stupid stuff like this that makes all Christians look stupid and judgmental...I mean, duh, one diet is not going to work for everybody...I think the majority of people with a little common sense know that. I like how they use the scare tactics like telling you to keep the article for when you DO have the "severe health side-effects" of the diet. Who cares if millions of people are living happy. healthy lives on THE SAME DIET....it didn't work for these four (at least, we don't think so...) yeah, that make s perfect sense to me...not!

please don't let these guys give you a bad idea about Christians any more than we want one stupid couple feeding their child apple juice and soy milk giving all vegans a bad name.... :-\

THANK YOU, VegHead!! I cringe at the bad name a few weirdos give the rest of us, because the wierdos are always the ones who get all the media attention. I always bear in mind that verse that says, "Not all those that cry "Lord! Lord!" will enter the Kingdom of Heaven." Along with "God is not mocked." Please don't blame all of us (or Him) for the folks who claim to work for Him while lining their own pockets or putting forth their own agendas.

Amen!!!  Please don't lump us all in the same lump!!  But my husband and I are just embarking on a diet based on the Hallelujah (Gen 1:29) diet.  I wish I knew why people had those negative health issues.  Anyone have any ideas?

Ummm. Something tells me this is going to turn into a really fun thread!!! YAY!! (And Camie didn't even start it.)

Newbie admins: brace yourselves, I think you're about to be tested on your moderating skills. ;)

I've seen this before, yeah.  It is an ad for their own diet... so naturally it's biased and screwy.

I love those two photos of Greg--you know, where he looks perfectly healthy in both, but one is labeled as his "ghastly", unhealthy state while on the Hallelujah diet.

oh, and I like how Judie LITERALLY went from invalid to athlete just by adding the magical ingredient of meat back to her diet.  haha.

I admit I have no idea what the Halleluja diet it . . .. or how to spell it, but if it is 85% RAW then there is probably a big margin of error as far as people screwing it up.  I would hardly say that compares to the typical VEGAN diet.  I feel like I read somewhere that only 5% of Vegans are raw.

I would tell her that it is better than them eating RAW MEAT, nasty.

I knew I had seen this before, so I did some searching on that site.  He seems to be a big fan of  "The Weston A. Price Foundation web site, a site devoted to traditional diets that have a great deal to teach modern health seekers..."

So, yeah.

I know there are some Christians on this board who did not become a veg*n specifically because the Bible states that they should do so. But there ARE some Christians whose reasons for becoming veg*n are exclusively tied to certain quotes from the Bible. Part of me feels, so be it, at least they are veg*n. Another part of me does not understand this…and I find things like this web site (http://www.hacres.com/about/founders_george.asp) endorsing the Gen 1:29 diet disturbing. Apparently, some religious folks actually cull their nutritional information from the Bible itself, and they call it “Biblical nutrition.” It sounds like I’m harping on Christians…I’m not. I’m simply saying…searching for information on health in the Bible is like scanning a cookbook for the scientific reasoning behind the theory for the Big Bang.

I’ll tell you why it bothers me when religion plays a strong part in a Christian’s motivation to become a veg*n. The Bible can be interpreted in many ways. Furthermore, there are quotes that contradict each other. I myself have read many of the quotes that bestir a Christian to become a veg*n, such as Genesis 1:29 (the name of the aforementioned diet): Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you…”

But, how about these quotes? (And you can look them up to understand their context.):

Luke 24:41 – 43
And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.” (Jesus ate fish/meat.)

Romans 14:1 - 3
Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. (Note that the “man who is weak in faith” is the one who consumes the veggies.)

Romans 14:5 - 6

He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

Genesis 9:3 - 4

Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.  (God gives humans all the living animals for consumption. In the third sentence, the Bible is not instructing humans to refrain from eating meat, but rather to drain the carcass of its blood first, because the blood is sacred to God, and this we must not ingest.)

In addition to this, many gruesome animal sacrifices take place in the Old Testament. Right off the bat in Genesis, Abraham (the shepherd/herdsman) is told by God (who desires the smell of burning flesh) to burn a ram (Genesis 22:13).

Am I trying to steer Christians away from veg*nism? No. I’m making the point that the views of someone who bases their veg*n principles on a text that can be interpreted many different ways or that is contradictory (or that even flat out advocates the eating of meat or sacrificing and burning of flesh, as in the examples cited above) can very easily revert back to eating meat somewhere down the line depending on what Biblical angle they arbitrarily decide is convenient for them. A principle vulnerable to such freely changing winds is like a house of cards ever teetering on the verge of collapse. I would much rather see a Christian abstain from eating meat because of health reasons. Though, of course (caring as I do about animals), I would instead prefer animal rights reasons, which is the most lasting and permanent reason for veg*nism because it’s based on the abhorrence of cruelty to animals, an issue that penetrates the heart much deeper than mere health and does not lend itself easily to reversion.

(If you think I’m being militant, wait till I whip out my abolitionist ideas on Vegweb one day…Heh. Heh. :D ;D In reality, I tried to keep this as "clean" and as "civil" as I possibly could. I'm just stating my views and offering it up for discussion. Thanks for reading...I know it was long!)

"A Biblical health nightmare"...!!!  ;D  ::) ;D  I'm assuming - having never read the bible, and being unwilling to - that Genesis 1:29 is the thing about 'herbs and fruits'... ? Nothing wrong with that, methinks...

"Faith in a diet ideal can be so strong that it blinds us to the realities of where our health is headed."

Yeah... if faith in the literalness of the bible leads a person to ignore the symptoms of health/unhealth, it's gotta be bad for ya. Diet shouldn't be based on dogma.

"Surely, if the three “Thunderbird” wingmen had been looking out the corner of their eye at the ground coming up, they would have realized their leader was leading them into the ground."  ;D ;D ;D

Oh, dear. Anyone this blind deserves to delete themselves from the human race. Can we say 'Darwin Award'? I hope noone truly follows a DIET to this extreme, as this dude says. Someone might just eliminate oneself.

"It's true that junk animal products can cause health problems, but clean, wholesome animal foods will not hurt you."

But it hurts the animals!! Obviously these Westbrook folk never chose veganism for the animals' sake.  ::)  I'm so sad that a book was published about their post-vegan enlightenment. Ugh.

Hee hee, but wait - there's more!

"Upon publication, they were immediately attacked by dietary zealots who refused to acknowledge the truth."

Proud to be a dietary zealot.
