Have you all seen this? http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/canada_kfc_victory
I saw a brief segment on the news last night & had to find out more. It's about time that KFC started treating their chicken humanely but I still feel bad that they have to slaughter them at all. :'(
And knowing that KFC now makes a vegan chickun sandwich, would you go out & buy one?
I'm actually surprised they didn't have veggie chicken sooner - I think it's similar to how mcdonalds and such have been offering veggie burgers for years. Burger King here "caved" to PETA years ago and as a result we have the chain's only vegan burger.
I'm in Canada now and I'll prob check it out before I move away, as long as it's not contaminated in any way.
i wouldnt go buy one. but i think its so awesome for people to be able to go there and think... "hmmm do i want a chicken today or soy nuggets.... i could raise my cholesterol, or have something a little bit healthier... hmmmm... i'll try the soy" yay. because you know some people will buy it!!! just not me. heh.
What?? Has anyone tried that chickun sandwich? Is it any good?
I tried Burger King's veggie burger before I went vegetarian, just to see how it was, and it was sooo disgusting. I don't even think they sell them anymore, at least not around here.
To answer your question, I would go out and buy one. I don't see the big deal, the animal product industries are pretty messed up across the spectrum, no reason to single out KFC or any other fast food joint.
I would. I see it as an opportunity not just for veg*ns to get food on the go but for meat eaters who may be considering eating less meat, or are just curious, to try it out and maybe they'd make it a habit (eating less meat, that is). McDonald's in India has a vegetarian menu. I thought it used to be basically all vegan but now they seem to be more vegetarian than vegan. :-\

Wasn't sure if I should put this link on here or do a new topic but the point is, since fast food places do exist, I wish they had vegan options. There'd be less meat eaten, IMO, which would be a good thing.
WOW, thanx for that link lilolme. I had no idea that McD's was offering veggie options. I don't go to McDonalds but I feel like writing a letter to see if they would offer these foods here in Canada. My son will go there with his buddies but all that he ever gets is fries....one cannot survive on french fries alone :P
pilotkevin, I am in Canada too & had no idea that Burger King has a vegan burger on their menu...this is good news! Why didn't I know this?
If I ever do try KFC's vegan chicken, I'll let you know....but don't hold your breath. I will need a lot of support just walking in there.
jessesmum - You're welcome. :) I almost fell over the first time I saw their menu, too. Apparently about 30% of India is vegetarian which is why they offer this. In the U.S., I think it's 3% of the population or something like that that's vegetarian but nobody has ever asked me! Honestly, if they made it known and asked more people, I'm sure there'd be a pretty good size demand for vegetarian and vegan options at more places, even from some meat eaters. The Veg McCurry Pan looks like it'd be good, if it were vegan. I'm fairly sure that when I first saw this menu that the McCurry didn't have cheese on it, though. Yes, just eating fries (or any one food) when you go out does get tiring!
I won't step inside a KFC. Even if they have vegan options. I won't even eat a garden salad from Wendy's - it just has that fast food... ness to it. It's tainted by capitalism, consumption, and dead cows...

Same. I can't go to BBQ's ('cept vegan ones, o' course), and I can't go into fast food places. It's just a visceral reaction.
I'm not sure If I would... On one hand, by buying the vegetarian options, we're showing that there is a market and perhaps that will result in broader knowledge of eating veggie, etc.
On the other hand, they may use the same fryers/gloves/utensils as they use for the meat and in all honesty... part of me thinks it jsut their way to get money from the vegetarians as well as the meat eaters. the more money they get, the more their meat industry booms. It's a double edged sword
And it smells.

i know in at that the Atlantic provinces don't have veggie burgers in thier macdonalds and burger king uses the same grill as the meatpatties. I cant imagine the vegan chicken not being cross contaminated after working in the fast food industury for years i no longer have faith in that kind of thing.
Ew. KFC. Gross.

I know when I used to eat the BK Veggie Burger there were questions about cross contamination with meat here in the U.S. and since the patties only need to be heated you could request they be microwaved and not grilled to prevent cross contamination with the meat. It may even have been the way they did them as a rule. I don't remember anymore. I know at the drive-up window you could see that they microved them instead of using the grill.
