KFC, McD,BK,Wendys,Heinz,FritoLay,KettleFoods,P&G-- Everybody Read!!! Boycott!
KFC just issued a statement that they will give a warning that their fried potatoes and fried foods contain a cancer-causing chemical (acrylamide?) .....why not just change the recipe and not expose people to that? Why are they not being shut down? w hy is this okay? I'm really mad because I think they sh ould be forced to change the recipe as lots of people who have no clue about nutrition do eat there and the food is already unhealthy....why include something so harmful? Grrrrrrr...... I bet Peta is all over this
I don't ever eat there myself but I think it's a major crime to be doing this to people....and to think it's only NOW in the press. Geez. So many years. Makes you wonder about other fast food ( I dont eat any) like McDonalds fries and beef extract/tallow yuck. I also heard that they put eyeball and 'protein worms' in their meat patties -ewww.
Here's a link to an article on it:

This is really interesting:
good link Smoking the fast-food industry - Fight against warning labels reminiscent of tobacco fray
Thomas Kostigen, MarketWatch 06 Oct 2005:
The state of California is suing nine top food manufacturers, including Burger King, Heinz and McDonald's, over their reluctance to issue warnings that some of their snacks could contain the potentially cancer-causing chemical acrylamide...What the state of California is seeking is disclosure. Under California law (Proposition 65), companies are required to warn consumers about products that contain chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects. Acrylamide has been on the state's list of potentially hazardous chemicals since 1990.
I think this is a huge injustice to the people by corporationsthat want nothing more than profits, for people to get sick and fat and have more new loyal customers come in as the old ones die off. iT'S disgusting. And sadly FDA approved
or you can google: kfc cancer-causing chemical to find more on this
**I also have a 'boycott kfc cruelty' t shirt that I wear a couple times a month!**
thank you for posting this because i don't know how much play in the media this will actually get
this is terrible, appalling, disgusting, insert any other words that you feel fit. they should be shut down, finned to the end of time. I see one and only reason why they will not get in to a lot of trouble MONEY . As sad as this is they play by the golden rule how ever has the the gold they make the rules. got to love the hype capitalist world we live. YEE-HAA You can still buy smokes everywere this is really just another new form of selling death to people.
Cheers

holy crap on a stick, batman! :D
in the interests of keeping perspective, are we going to sue everyone who fries potatoes now, or just the big companies that we don't like? what about the local family run vegan restaurant with organic, locally produced, hand-cut fried potato wedges on the menu? oooh, ohhh: we should also definately sue the producers of that chicory coffee stuff from the healthfood store, and whoever makes those yummy fair trade roasted almonds and organic vegan breakfast cereals, too, cos i bet their labels aren't 100% upto date with big clearly visable acrylamide warnings either.
The forming of acrylamide is something that happens when you heat certain foods in certain ways, its not something that only evil multinational moneygrabbing chains are purposely doing to our food just to hurt us, or something they're throwing in there to poison us, the unwitting consumer. Acrylamide has been forming in foods since... well, since humans began cooking things.
its disapointing that big chains have fought against labelling their products, but if they've been singled out and unfairly targeted for improper labelling, when other groups haven't been forced to label, then i'd be inclined to fight it too. i can see their concern: burgerking is forced to, and labels its fries, the public misunderstands and thinks burgerkings specific fries are bad, and so they all go and buy fries containing the same levels of the same chemicals, right down the street, in a smaller chain that hasn't been sued and forced to label its foods the same way.
yep, we should know what acrylamides are, and where they are, and have the information to make wise choices about our food. yep, it should be law that information about these compounds is on the labels of all products containing it. no, lets not get hysterical and point fingers at people we don't like, while forgetting that this is an 'in every fried potato' thing, not a 'the sole work of evil multinational burger chains' thing.

The point is that they didn't inform the public on this and people didn't know they were consuming this harmful substance. Whether it's KFC or Kashi cereal. The fact that it's a known CANCER-CAUSING chemical and people have been eating there is the cause for the lawsuit and ALL foods containing this chemical should be labeled as such, or NOT have this chemical, whether small or big companies. People have a right to know what's in their food. Obviously they weren't forthright in giving up this information originally because of fear of losing $$ rather than caring about the men, women, children, and pregnant women eating this carcinogenic food.
I know I'm going to tell all my loved ones and friends about this because I don't want people I care about getting sick and not knowing about this because I'm sure it's not going to get much more press than it already has. All I can really say in response to your comment is that people have a right to information and full disclosure... They have a right to know what their kids are eating because let's face it - a lot of young people and just people in general eat nasty fast food. And I think the public's health interests outweigh corporate interests.
are we going to sue everyone who fries potatoes now, or just the big companies that we don't like?
the little ma and pa restraint are more then likely getting the food they serve from the same place as you or me. possibly from a distributer that comes to restaurant. they would probably be in the same situation as the rest of us and would not have known
Cheers
I haven't eaten any of these products in years anyway.
I just wanted to mention that this is one of the arguments for a raw diet.
I hope the people in charge at least decide to put a warning label on all things that contain acrylamide, because I think people have a right to know if they are putting proven cancer-causing substances into their bodies. I have a healthier diet than most and sometimes eat those things... pretty scary.
