OK, so what book would you like to live in?

Last week I asked what film you'd like to live in. Several people mentioned they'd prefer the original book to the movie version, which is so often the case. So what book would you like to inhabit for a bit?
I'd choose The Secret Garden first. And The Wind in the Willows. Mole and I have a lot in common!
For adult books, I wouldn't mind hanging out in a few biographies and autobiographies I know of. Not as the main character, but as a friend. Just sort of there.
Inkheart!! :-) apprehensively though - because the last two books of the trilogy have a tendency to get very dark!
A Tale of Two Cities - this is a mix. I can't say i'd enjoy suffering the way some of the people in that book did, yet - in reading the book, it awoke a curiosity about that time frame.

17 Again. I think it would be great to be my teenage daughters age and see what she is up to.
First book that comes to mind is Harry Potter. I've read loads of "higher-quality" literature, but I don't think any book has ever provoked such an intense yearning to be in the story. I dono.. the magic of it all is just so appealing.
Among others, I think of Madeline L'Engle's Wrinkle in Time from my childhood. I remember parts of it scaring me, but I absolutely loved the idea of being able to travel through time and the cosmos.
Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Little Women, Vanity Fair, oh my god. way too many... I have a serious reading addiction! And I was born in the wrong time period!

Several come to mind but I'll go with "The Alchemist" by Paula Coelho. The main character is a youth, a shepherd boy, named Santiago. He's searching for a treasure in the pyramids of Egypt and along the way meets some very intriguing characters, has some very exciting experiences, and learns some timeless lessons along the way. I won't say any more (no spoilers!) except that I've read it twice and soon will again. Brilliant!

Probably The Number One Ladies' Detective Agency. Or maybe Anne of Green Gables. Can you tell I'm not an adventurer?
My kids would definately say Anne of Green Gables but I would say the Bible, especially in the time of Jesus, the rest is pretty scary!
Twilight - I want to be Alice Cullen. Or wait, I want to be Bella. So I can be with Edward. Duh.
Gone With the Wind - just because I think it would be fun to be a southern belle. Maybe without all the war and hardship, though.

Almost any dr. suess book. I emphasize on almost, i wouldnt want to be stuck in the foot book with gross feet all over the place.
I think I have wanted to live in almost all my favorite books over the years. If I had to choose, I would choose Little Women or Anne of Green Gables, His Dark Materials books (but only Lyra's Oxford and maybe the Gypsy Fens, the rest might be a bit scary), anyone of Tamora Pierce's books about Tortall ( minus the war and fighting), Charles DeLint's Newford from several of his novels.
I think I more or less picked places from books rather than the books themselves. I might as well tack Narnia on to my list and round it off. :)
Where the Wild Things Are! Or any Eric Carle book! Or something with dinosaurs! Yup, I'm still a little kid.

Oh, dear God, no. That book gave me nightmares for months. How bout we add "Book" to the end of that. I wouldn't mind hangin' with Baloo and Mogeley. (sp?) :)
I grew up reading Harry Potter, so I'm going to jump on the bandwagon with that one. Every time I reread them I get a twinge of sadness that I never got my Hogwarts letter, although recently I've wondered whether the house elves cater for vegans. I guess they do... They're cool like that.
My love of Mr Darcy makes me want to say Pride and Prejudice... But the whole pre-women's-lib thing would be an issue!
As a kid, I totally wanted to live in the Redwall books. So those have got to crack the list too.
