My favorite movies are war films:  The Deer Hunter, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Platoon (less so), and by loose association - First Blood.  They all tend to be Vietnam-based, but my favorite movie among the is The Big Red One, which is set in WWII.  Go figure.

The Big Red One.  My sister and I could probably still recite the whole movie.

Would you look at how fast they put the names of all our guys who got killed?
That's a World War One memorial.
But the name's are the same.
They always are.

I thought this was going to be about great movie quotes, not lines to the whole movie.  I loved in The Departed, when Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) says to Madolyn (Vera Farmiga), "If we're not gonna make it, it's gotta be you that gets out, cause I'm not capable. I'm f***ing Irish, I'll deal with something being wrong for the rest of my life."  So true.

Edited to enhance awesomeness.

love actually, Garden State, Super Troopers, Fever Pitch, most of Grey's Anatomy, and most of Friends. I know that GA/Friends are not movies, but I thought I'd throw them in anyway.

Moonstruck. In fact about the third time I saw it I realised I had internalised the entire script. Get me started and I can do the whole movie.

Vanya on 42nd Street. Amazing film.

In fact I speak in quotations from movies, TV shows, books, poems...so much so  I have decided my epitaph should be, "You may quote me." Which is in itself a quotation from the movie, "Harvey."

"Ohhh doctor...you know, when I was young, my mother used to tell me, "Elwood," she'd say (she always called me Elwood), "Elwood, in this life, you can be oh, so smart, or oh, so pleasant." For years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."

Strange Brew

I was the last one left after the nuclear holocaust, eh. The whole world had been destroyed, like U.S. blew up Russia and Russia blew up U.S. Fortunately, I had been offworld at the time. There wasn't much to do. All the bowling alleys had been wrecked. So's I spent most of my time looking for beer.

Take off, you hoser.
;D

I probably won't get the quote exactly right but my favorite Elwoodism is when he's explaining why he likes Charlie's Bar, he says something like "There's no one at home right now.  If I'm to be alone, I'd rather be here than home."  We own the DVD of Harvey so I now have an excuse to watch it again tonight!

Wow, there are so many, mostly ones from my teen years.  Goonies, The Princess Bride, The Pirate Movie, A League of Their Own ("you see, how it works is, the train moves not the station"), Say Anything...

Ah movie quotes.  Hubby and I speak in quotes too much sometimes I think.  Tommy Boy is a good one as he always says if I frighten him he may "Jerk the car into a bridge abutment."  Though typically we are not in the car when he says it.  hah

We quote National Lampoon's Van Wilder a lot.  "Are you stalking me? Because that would be super."
Also National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.  "Fixed the newel post!"

Princess Bride is pretty common.  Robin Hood Men in Tights as well.

But I personally like quotes from my favorite movie; The Fifth Element.  "Boom, big bada boom"

This thread makes me want to rewatch Harvey, its been years since I have seen it.

For those of you who haven't had the privilage of watching Wet Hot American Summer, i suggest you go out and rent it right now!  Its one of the most awesome stupid funny movies ever!  Here are a couple of quotes from the movie, there are SO MANY more  :>  but you really have to watch to movie to get the full effect.

"I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters...I said fondue cheddar, I was thinking about making fondue with cheddar cheese for dinner tonight....that's what I said fondue cheddar."

"When we first started hanging out together this morning we were just friends, but things change, and I've fallen in love with you. I just know that if you gave me a chance, I could make you feel so good. So, I am coming, not as your buddy, and not as a co-counselor, but for the first time as a man, a man who loves a woman, and who wants to hold her and provide for her, and yes-have sex with her, but no seriously Katie, I love the way you laugh and I love the way your hair smells and I love it that sometimes for no reason you're late for shul, and I don't care that you're bowlegged and I don't care that you're bilingual, all I know is that I would have said no to every single person on your list because I've always wanted you. "

I used to be able to quote every line in Grease - I've seen it a million times. I haven't watched it in a while, so my quoting skills aren't up to snuff.

what's the best movie, with the best quotes? definitely CASABLANCA. it's my favourite film of ALL TIME. man, humphrey bogart... "here's looking at you kid..." he makes my knees go weak, seriously.

"Monsieur Rick, and what nationality are YOU?"
"I'm a drunkard."
"That makes him a citizen of the world."

I love the fact that they actually made that movie from start to finish, not in random scenes, because it was being written by 3 different writers as they made it, and No-One knew what the ending would be!

The Secret Garden Hallmark Hall of Fame version

Oh my goodness! Me too! Well, maybe not now....but when I was in elementry school I'd lie awake in my bed at night and go through every line in the movie, "ahhh Syeeb! (sp?) Syeeb? Answer me when I call to you!....(softlly) Syeeb?..." until I fell asleep...which could take hours. Thought I was the only one. ;)

And also The Princess Bride me and the kids I grew up with always watched that at birthday parties (like all of them---every year---all of us) and we would say all the lines with it as we watched it. He he.

Maybe the movie Andre too about the seal?

What about Napoleon Dynamite? Not exactly the smartest movie in the world, but very funny.

"Whatever I feel like I wanna do. Gosh!"

"What the flip was grandma doing at the sand dunes?"

"Tina, come get some ham!"

"But my lips hurt real bad."

"It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiget mixed, bred for its skills in magic." (referring to a liger)

"Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day."

And many, many more...

I constantly quote movies...

Spaceballs (anything Mel Brooks, really)
Monty Python
Zoolander...along with my best Magnum impersonation
The Big Lebowski
Fight Club
Robocop
The Goonies
Full Metal Jacket
Ghostbusters
Clerks
Napoleon Dynamite

This list could seriously last forever.

Sometimes I like to say obscure ones that didn't make sense to me when I watched it and still don't, mostly for a topic of conversation.  Like the scene at the end of Halloween Resurrection when Busta Rhymes' character says the most random thing..." Michael Myers is a killer shark. In baggy ass overalls who gets his kicks from killing everyone and everything he comes across." :-D
