So, I took my son to Burger King today to get him a burger (or 3..boy can eat like you wouldn't believe) and I was just going to get a drink or something, when what did I see?! Much to my own amazement?!
"Veggie Burger- Morningstar Farm. Soy"..right on the menu!
When did this happen?! I mean..it's been -forever- since I ate -any- fastfood, but wow! I ordered one and it was very good. Came with the works.
I'm -very- impressed and hope this is a continuing trend!
Yes, I've had it there before....not bad. I think the brand they use is not vegan...but in a pinch I believe they are the only FF to have such a thing. I usually just get the onion rings.
I think they've had them for a long time, but they just weren't on the menu. I noticed them also when my boyfriend wanted to go through the drive-thru for a fish sandwich and I was tempted to try the veggie burger. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be very good, so I didn't. Glad to know the BK veggie burger passes the test!
I also noticed at several restaurants that veggie burgers are popping up on the menus. Bennigan's will substitute in a veggie burger (I think the black bean one) for any of their meat burgers.
;)b
I had one these a couple of months ago when I was with my boss driving to a meeting. I agree, it was a pleasent surprise & something I will remember in the event of a road trip emergency, but I'm not going to make a habit out of it. It think it is particulaly nice for teenagers who want to go vegitarian. I know I would have appreciated them more 10+ years ago!
Our front desk clerk also works at Burger King. When I mentioned I was vegetarian (at the time) she said they had veggie burgers there. I still haven't tried them - I just can't justify eating fast food anymore - but kudos to them for being a bit more openminded.
Of course, they probably fry the fries in oil that's been used to fry meats, cheese, etc :-\
When I was vegetarian, I used to eat them (and liked them). I think I mainly liked them b/c of the sauce though...the patty always seemed to be cooked incorrectly. I just did a little research (b/c I had heard several things about them), and years ago, I think they used vegan and soy-free patties....but according to the BK website, they use the Morningstar Farms garden veggie patties, which include egg and milk ingredients (according to MF' website), and of course the bun and sauce are not vegan.
I also learned that MF has a few vegan products, including some vegan patties.
The burgers rank at "Decent" on the Veg-ometer as far as taste, but when my family and I are on the road, they are a life saver. I just wish more places with drive-thrus would have veggie options.
When I was a vegetarian I used to eat there burgers, but now that I'm a vegan I don't eat them because they aren't vegan. Our family eats fast food alot when we are in the states because we are always traveling. Its amusing because when I order its like this:
Me: May I have a side salad please, with no cheese
Cashier: No cheese?
Me: Yeah, thats right
Cashier: What kinda dressing you want?
Me: I don't want any dressing
*Cashier gives me weird look*
Cashier: No dressing?
Me: Thats right
Cashier: Is that you want?
Nope, I'd like a small order of fries
* Cashier is now completely perplexed and sizing me down because she thouhgt I was on a diet andnow I'm ordering french fries*
Cashier: Um... A small order of fries?
Me: Absolutely
I like veggie burgers. Years ago, I used to get them a lot when we'd go out to eat. As I got older, I became more selective about my food choices. I could not help but think about my veggie burger being fried in the remnant meat juices of the last burger that was there. There is one restaurant in my town that pan-sears their veggie burger. It says it right on the menu. I wish other restaurants would do the same. I don't know how Burger King prepares their veggie burger - but that is the only reason I would never try one.
There used to be a burger joint in the mall where I work, and if you ordered a veggie burger they would actually scrub a section of the grill before they put the veggie burger on there.
I thought that was pretty considerate for a locally-owned shop in a very non-vegetarian city.

At Burger King they microwave the veggie patty.
