Man urinates on dying woman, declaring it 'YouTube material'
From the "Annals of Modern Depravity" comes this sordid story:
Shouting, "This is YouTube material!" a 27-year-old British man urinated on a dying woman who had collapsed on the street, the BBC and local Hartepool Mail and Northern Echo tell us. He also doused her with a bucket of water and covered her with shaving cream.
The woman, 50-year-old Christine Lakinski, died at the scene of pancreatic failure.
In a sad sign of the times, it was all recorded on a mobile phone.
In court, Anthony Anderson said he had smoked a joint and been drinking with two friends when they spotted Lakinski. He faces jail after pleading guilty to "outraging public decency." Sentencing is set for Oct. 22.
"We will await the outcome and just hope he gets what he deserves," Lakinski's brother said after today's court hearing.

I'm going to have to guess there was more substance abuse involved than a joint and alcohol. It might have been merely sad if she lived, but to die on a street with someone mocking her passing goes beyond my words to describe. That's a pretty depressing story there, kbone.
Absolutly disgusting. YouTube is the absolute worst cultural innovation since MTV. Nothing but pointless videos. It is astounding the stupid things people do to get on that stupid website, and even worse that people waste time to watch them. This is an absolutly horrific event that adds to the fact that we're living in a cultureless society void of any creativity (at least in the mainstream).

As far as humankind circling the drain-- very likely ...although, there have always been horrible, pathetic dregs of society like this person throughout our history so I hope, ultimately, we still somehow manage to overcome our main weakness-- selfishness, lack of concern for each other. As long as there are some out there who will keep fighting the good fight! Yay for all of us here! We each make a difference even if we don't realize it yet.

I don't think we're as bad as that. There will always be freakily horrible people and there will always be good people. It's just that people behaving poorly get press and things like davedrum's dog rescue don't.

When You Tube first came out my reaction was "oh great, more videos about ME ME ME."
Like humans need more excuses to show how shallow and stupid and vain they can be.
Not surprisingly, in an "it's all about me" society, youtube took off like a shot. :P

Youtube has also been the forum for many news events that otherwise would never have reached national attention. Videos of protests, police brutality, etc are things that deserve mainstream media attention but don't get it. Many times in the past, such videos have reached national attention through Youtube; they wouldn't have gotten it otherwise (for example, the UCLA student who was tasered in that university's library). Youtube is a means of disseminating information in a way that is controlled by the people rather than by corporate news media. When I am disgusted with the cherrypicking infotainment on CNN, Fox News, etc, Youtube and other noncorporate media, such as the blogosphere, give me hope.
There are pointless videos, but it's definitely not "nothing but pointless videos." Many of the videos have a very important point.
That is absolutely horrifying and sickening- wow I don't even know what to say. What the f*ck is wrong with people like this? Where does this type of behavior come from? I don't understand. I am so sad for that woman and her family- to have to be put through that inhumane treatment as she was passing. I hope that guy is punished severely. :'(

Ya! I agree whole hartedly! Yet just another example of how human compassion is spiralling downward. I am for going back to a hunter/gather society as people lived thousands of years ago. Those kind of people would have been killed on the spot with a spear though their heart in those times.

Exactly. YouTube is not a bad thing in and of itself. People could just as easily "Google" it (either to get to the story or to the video had it been posted since Google and YouTube partnered)--that doesn't make Google evil.

on the other hand, imo youtube itself isnt evil. as cephi said, it can document important issues too, and possibly make news from things that would have otherwise gone unwitnessed. for example, what would we do w/o the "dramatic chipmuck"?
