I have picked my "Quit Smoking" date.... NVR

My food processor hasn't arrived yet.  Guess it will Monday or Tuesday.  I ordered some quit smoking stuff from the States but the order got all mucked up somehow and it was cancelled.

So this morning I went to my health food store to look for something with the ingredient Lobelia Inflata in it as was suggested to me on a previous post (although I can't find that post now).

I found something and bought it.  My quit date is Monday, August 27th.  I thought it would be easier to start on Monday as I don't smoke during the day on work days.

I bought A homeopathic product called Stop-it, Smoking.  The company, NatraBio.

The active ingredients are:
Caladium seguinum - reduces tobacco cravings
Avena sativa - Reduces ill effects of tobacco use
Euphorbium officinarum - Helps to detoxify mucus membranes
Ignatia amara - Nervous tension
Lobelia Inflata - Helps to detoxify from tobacco use
Nux Vomica - Helps to detoxify from tobacco use
Passiflora incarnata -  Reduces ill effects of tobacco use.

Non active ingredients:
Cellulose, Croscarmellose Sodium, Dextrose, Lactose and Magnesium Stearate

Not tested on animals.

The program consists of chewing and letting dissolve in the mouth two sublinguals 4 times daily for one month.
Month 2: Two sublinguals 3 times daily.
Month 3: One sublingual 3 times daily.

Funny that it is a three month plan because years ago, when I tried quitting the three month mark was when I would start again.  Then I quite for 14 years.  I may do these for 4 months for psychological reasons.  Getting past the three months.

I also bought the lozenges that you take when you have a real craving.  Won't need them during the day but nights and weekends, I probably will.  Wanted to be armed with them just in case.

Active ingredients:
Caladium seguinum - Reduces tobacco cravings
Plantago major - Reduces tobacco cravings
Cinchona officinalis - Reduces tobacco cravings
Lobelia inflata - Reduces ill effects of tobacco
Nux Vomica - Reduces tobacco craving
Staphysagria - Reduces ill effects of tobacco
Calcarea Phosphorica - Reduces tobacco cravings
Ignatia amara - Reduces nervous tension

Anyway it sounds good and the guy at the health food store said he thinks it is a great product.  They also had another one but he recommended this.

If nothing else, if I think it is going to work, whether or not it truly does, hopefully my brain will think it is working...so it will.

I haven't even been smoking 10 months and this time seems harder to quit than the last time 15 years ago and I quit Cold Turkey then.

Oh, the product is nicotine free.

Wish me luck and continued success to all those who have quit or are making the decision and the big leap to actually quitting.

Di

Good luck DI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :)
I have an idea.... quit today... that way when it gets there you'll be past the 3 month mark by a few days and still on the program... right?? Then you'll have a few days to get past that 3 month marker! It could help?  ???
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck! I haven't been posting in the quit smoking threads lately but I'm always rooting for you and thinking of you Di. :)

Thanks Jennifer!
I can't quit today because I truly believe in setting a date and preparing for it.  I am not ready today.  I only have enough for three months so no matter when I start, I will need to buy more unless I am feeling very confident at that point that I won't start again.
It is best for me to start on a work day.  Won't miss cigarettes until after work.  I am at home tomorrow so will be really craving them.  By next weekend, I will hopefully be 5 days smoke free so the weekend won't be so tough.

Thanks again for cheering me on!

That's great Di.  I've said in another thread that I think setting a quit date is crucial.  It was for me, anyway.  It gave me time to mentally prepare and get myself psyched up for it.

Another thing that helps is completely re-vamping your routine.  Since you don't smoke at work, I'm sure you have a cigarette as soon as you leave work or get home (I know this is what I used to do).  So change up your after work routine...take a new/different route home...when you get home, immediately start cleaning or talking on the phone or just anything you don't normally do.

I'm a teacher and was on summer break when my quit date arrived.  Chopping vegetables and preparing meals to be cooked later helped me to fight the boredom (which was when I mostly smoked).  It was good b/c I had so many prepared meals to choose from at dinner time. haha.  But more importantly, it kept my mind off the cigarettes.

I think I also said this on another thread, but I made a huge deal about it and told all my friends (who are great friends, but can be pretty ruthless).  I knew if I made a big deal about it, that if I later gave in to the cigarettes, they would give me much shit!  Haha.  I know it sounds weird, but you do what you gotta do!  My point is, if you tell a bunch of people you're quitting, they will probably ask you about it when they see you, and you have to tell yourself how much it will suck to say over and over "no, I didn't quit.  I'm still smoking. :-[" and how good it will feel to say "it's going great!  I haven't had a cigarette in 22 days!  :)"

Sending good vibes to you!

That's awesome Di!!!! Good luck--I know you will be able to do it--and in a few months time you will be so happy that you quit, and you will really feel the benefits of not smoking!!!

Don't let this be you!

Congratulations Di!  :) Just take it one day at a time....one craving at a time & you'll be fine. Get yourself some little straws to chew on. Believe it or not, they really help the cravings.
Lotus gave some good advice about telling everyone. They will ask when they see you & it feels good to tell them that you aren't smoking.

All the best to you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Thanks Capture and Lotus42!!!!

Lotus, I can't tell my friends I am quitting smoking because then I would have to tell them I started smoking again!  ;D ;D ;D

Only my BF, one friend at work, one other friend at work but a different office and my friend in Colorado know.

I have kept it pretty quiet because by telling people I was smoking again, I would have to admit that I am a smoker.  Some of very very closest friends have no idea.

I don't smoke when my BF comes over or we go out.  I don't smoke for a couple of hours before I see him, and shower, brush my teeth and use mouthwash because he hates kissing a smoker.  He has stopped asking me because he doesn't want to appear to be nagging.  I can't wait to tell him once I am smoke free for a couple of weeks.  I have never smoked with my friend at work, or my friend in Colorado because she is clear across the country and another country!  I have only smoked with my friend from the other office once when we went out for dinner.  He is a smoker but is cheering me on.

I did tell my sister but she is a five hour drive away and thinks I am no longer smoking.  When I went camping with her and her friends this summer, I didn't smoke for the 5 days I was there.  I was also a cranky bitch for part of the time.  OK, probably more than part of the time but I attributed that to the deer fly bites and welts all over my body.  :)

So, the people that will be cheering me on are the four above mentioned and my Vegweb friends!

Tomorrow, I am going to set up some of my exercise equipment.  On Monday, I am going to start to use it.  Exercise being one of my goals.

Thanks again for all of your support.  Capture, I love all the pictures you post.

You are doing amazingly well Lotus42!!!!!!  I am proud of you!!!

HaHa, I've lived that lie.  The worst was when the only other smoker at my old job (who was out of the "closet") found out that I was a secret smoker.  She'd come by my office to see if I'd join her in a smoke break.  I REALLY didn't want anyone else to know I smoked and I NEVER smoked at work, but she'd stop by my office every day for a while. "No!  Go away!  Scat!"

Good luck to you, Di.  I have something similar to the naturabio stuff, mine comes in a spray bottle and is supposed to reduce your violent urges (Kingbio).  I'm using the patch this time and it is really making a huge difference in my ability to not be a ridiculous bitch.  I'm on day 3, I'll keep you in my thoughts Monday morning.
Yoga is helping, too.  I'm pretty sore right now because day 2 was considerably harder than day 1 and I did all sorts of things yesterday to get my mind off of smoking.  I did a pilates video, hit the gym, walked the dogs, jumped rope, and started the day with some yoga.  Now my back and abs hurt so much I can't laugh without pain.  It's all good, though.

Good luck and calm, happy healing thoughts!

Don't you love the "workout pains" Nutdragon!?"  It always makes me feel like I've accomplished something when I'm sore the next day.

I used the patch when I quit the first time (2 years ago), and it gave me craaaazy dreams.  Are you experiencing this?

How's the preparation for tomorrow going, Di?  You're definitely in my thoughts!  :)

I used the patch when I quit the first time (2 years ago), and it gave me craaaazy dreams.  Are you experiencing this?

Last night was the first time I slept with one on and I had some interesting dreams, but nothing out-of-the-ordinary.  I did sleep like a rock, tho.  I'm an interior designer and I dream a lot about stuff relating to that.  Last night was a really cool 4br condo that I renovated a front room into a foyer and powder room.  Anyway, a little dip into my psyche...

I've never been a morning smoker, so the first night with the patch, I took it off, but I wish I hadn't.  Yesterday was much harder and I got really crazy mean around 10 am....so the patch stayed on last night.  It really works for the edgy-ness.

You are over three weeks in, right?  When do you stop wanting to kill anyone who gets near you?

Thanks again everyone!  I am both excited and frightened at the same time.  I so want to be not smoking again and yet, I enjoy it so don't want to give it up. I guess enjoy is the wrong word.  Addicted would be a far better choice.
I know for my health that I have to do it.  I am very pleased that I found the NatraBio and am hoping it truly helps.
I have been coughing for a few months now and I am always tired.  I blame both on the cigarettes.
I am going to convince my friend at work (a good friend that doesn't smoke and doesn't know I have been) that we should start walking at lunch again.  Throughout the quitting process, I don't want to gain any weight as I am trying to lose close to 20 pounds.  I also will start exercising at home.  Cali is still so ill, I can't walk her.  She has been peeing on a pee pad inside.
I actually also blame being tired on a lack of exercise so by quitting smoking and being able to breathe, I should enjoy exercising again (wishful thinking).
I have never done yoga and have many DVDs.  Just don't have a working DVD player at this time.  Will try to remedy that soon.
Once again, thanks everyone and for those that have quit, keep it up!!!!!!
NutDragon, I will be just 3 days behind you.  :)
My two favourite numbers are 2 and 7 so it seems right that I will be quitting on the 27th.
I will keep you all posted.
Thanks again.

A friend of mine used the patch years ago and had crazy dreams/nightmares.  I wonder why it does that to some people?

While I was camping for the five days with my sister and her friends in July, I was very much on edge and bitchy and burst into tears a couple of times.  Then I would take Cali for a walk or play in the lake with her and I was much nicer for a few hours.  It also helped that none of the people except one smoked and she would leave the campsite to do so. The good thing is I didn't feel the urge to eat more.

BTW, what colour was the powder room?  ;D

Oh, you asked me how I am preparing today to finally quit.
It is a beautiful sunny day today and as fall is fast approaching, I am going to sit in the sun for a couple of hours this afternoon and read.  I am also going to write two lists.  One of why I want to and should quit smoking such as for my health, so I don't smell etc., and a list of all the benefits I will get from quitting.  I will carry them with me in my purse so whenever I want a cigarette, I can refer to my lists.
The sun in the afternoon is in the courtyard so I am basically sitting out where people walk by me all the time.  To have a cigarette, I have to come in and go to my balcony so no one sees me smoke.  The little girls that live up here would be heartbroken if they thought I was smoking so I hide it.
I am going to get rid of all my lighters.  I keep misplacing them so have two or three.
Before I go to bed tonight, I will have a shower, wash my hair, brush my teeth, brush my tongue and use mouthwash.
I don't get enough sleep (another reason I am always so tired) so will try to be in bed by midnight.
I am hoping that getting more sleep will reduce my stress levels.
I am bad about bringing my lunch to work as we have a little take out restaurant in our building.  Not fast food but good food.
So tonight, I will prepare some healthy snacks for me to bring to work in case I do have the urge to smoke.  Cut up cantaloupe, an apple, a banana.  That will also help me with my eat more fruits and vegetables goal.
I will go and buy a small pack of cigarettes today because I only have a couple left.  I do not want to not have a cigarette available when I plan my last one before my shower tonight.  If I don't have my planned one, then I will really want one in the morning.  I will have no problem breaking and throwing away the ones I don't smoke.  Might seem like a waste of money but that last cigarette has to be smoked and enjoyed...so available.
This time...I AM going to do it.

I remember having a lot of "color" dreams.  Like, I saw all different colors instead of people/places, but in the dreams, it seemed like I knew what the colors meant...I knew what was going on.  Of course, I could only remember dreaming colors when I woke up.  I wish I could decipher them now.

Is that a side effect of quitting??  I thought that was just normal!!   :D

No, seriously...It only took 4-5 days for me to stop snapping at people.  I had more problems with depression (actually just sadness, nothing clinical) than irritability.  I was a real pity party about everything for the first week.  I didn't use the patch this time, but back to the dreams...it seemed almost like a detox.  I always read on here about the gross breath and skin problems that happen when you go on a detox fast, and how all the toxins just come out.  Well, during my first week without cigarettes, I had very emotional dreams...especally stuff involving an ex-boyfriend that I can't seem to get over...just getting all my emotions out in dreams.  They were the kind of dreams that take so much energy from your body, you feel more exhausted in the morning (which contributed to my pity party).

Di, the walking at lunch seems like a great idea!  I have found the more I exercise, the more I resent cigarettes.

Di,
All your preparations sound great.  I totally agree with you on the "planned" cigarette.  I treated it as sort of a ritual.  I was with a friend and the whole night, I did a count down with each cigarette...haha...only 3 more..etc.  Anyway, when it came to the last one, I stood up and declared it my last one and smoked it, and went to sleep.  Sounds kinda silly to a non-smoker (maybe to some smokers), but mentally, I had GET RID OF THEM...a break-up, if you will. Ha.

The fruit is a great idea. I think I said earlier that I cut a lot of fruit and veggies during my first week.  I think the chopping may be theraputic. Hahaha.  Hope you enjoy it!  ;)
