Boot Camp (Let's make this a thread on accountability)

OK, I am going to measure and weigh myself on Saturday.  For those of you that said some of your summer goals were to lose weight and get fit....hope you will join this thread.

Not that I am going to post my weight and measurements but maybe I need to be accountable.

Sooooooo... I will make a comment on Saturday.  Then every Saturday, I am going to say weight lost and inches lost. (remember that if you gain muscle the scale will not move or go up.  Use a tape measure)

I truly am going to put myself through boot camp.  The program I have been watching on TV has shown that in 6 weeks with real effort, one can make a huge difference.

As well, I am going to comment each Saturday on how am reaching the goals I stated for the summer.

We all stated goals for the summer.  Let us all be accountable.  Some we will attain, some we may fall short on but lets all support each other.

When the fall officially starts (when the h*ll is that?), we can state what we actually achieved.

Sometimes our cyber friends are our best friends.  We are non judgemental and hugely supportive.

I know for me, the hugest thing is quitting smoking.

Next, getting fit and healthy.  One of my goals is to walk and hike with Cali more.  That will fall in to the get fit and healthy boot camp thing.

One was to spend more time with Biko.  I clip his wings in the summer, he prefers to walk anyway.  I will start taking him to the park on my walks with Cali.  That way he can feel he is a part of my life.

Spending more time with my BF.  He is hugely busy, I am hugely busy.  This is going to be a tough one.

De-cluttering....I am ready.  I want it done and I want it done now. I am finally so sick of the mess that I want to do it,  Get it done!

So guys, lets have a huge reach your summer goals support group.  No better place than this board.

Veg on...

>>Storm<< It's okay! Don't punish yourself. It sounds like you had a bad time at physical therapy, and therefore crappy day = a little indulgence, well okay, sometimes A LOT of indulgence! You need to tell yourself it is OKAY to have some potato chips. Go make yourself a smoothie or something else "light" for dinner, I don't care what it is, but please don't skip dinner!!!

I dunno. I'm trying to be good and walk every day, whether I feel like it or not, and eat healthy, and my clothes just get tighter and tighter. I am disgusted by life, myself and most of all my metabolism. I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Hell, throw in the whole linen cupboard.

No ramen for Storm!!!

I'm right there with you Yabbit.  My metabolism sucks too.  I used to be able to eat anything and didn't gain a pound.  Sadly, those days are long over.  I weighed in this morning at 170.  At least I haven't gained any weight during my hiatus from exercise.

Yabbit-
If you are working out/eating better maybe it’s a thyroid, hormones or vitamin thing. Have you had your blood worked checked? I’d ask a doc to check your thyroid and vitamin and hormone levels….
Also (this is kinda gross) have you been pooping regularly? Simply not pooping can make it seem like your gaining weight when really it’s just a lot of bloat.

I've been on thyroid supplements for a year but I haven't had the magical weight loss one of my good friends had. I'm on a vitamin supplement for falling hair--could that do it?
Anyway, in September I'm going to a nutrionist. Right now I'm ovolacto but if he says "drop the milk products" I...willl. I really mean that. All I want is to get healthy. I'll feel like someone chopped my leg off, but whatever it is, if he says "drop wheat flour" or "milk products" or whatever, I will. Just as long as he doesn't ask me to eat fish.  :P

So, I went back to PT today and canceled the rest of my appointments this week.  It's been 6 weeks and I'm worse than when I started.  Enough is enough, they hurt me with that damned traction table!!  I weighed in at the usual 170.
I ate relatively well over the weekend, with the exception of nibbling on a piece of my daughter's birthday cake which made me feel really crappy!  I made chana masala, chopped salad, flax potato bread, and gazpacho over the weekend.  No meat analogs and no ramen.  Lots of fresh mango and raspberries.  I broke down and bought a few kiwi, even though they are out of season and coming from New Zealand.  I try not to buy out of season fruits or vegetables, but sometimes it's hard.  I wish I liked papaya, there were such beautiful fat ones at the produce stand Saturday.  For some reason, I only like dried papaya.

Hugs to all those who are struggling with dropping the pounds and hugs to those who are succeeding. :)

Ack...I'm STILL at 145 and I had to listen to my mom brag all weekend about how little she eats and how small her pants are! She kept telling me that someone was going to take them in for her because they could now fit 2 of her! I don't think she did it intentionally, but geez...

I still can't really exercise because I can't put my full weight on my left foot yet! Anyone know of any exercises I can safely do? I can't wait to get back to walking like a normal person!

Hang in there everyone! :)

I've been a total pig.... BUT Ive been pigging out on indian food which apparently gives me 'the runs'.... so I've lost weight.
I seriously just need to pull my head out of my ass and really get with it. I'm really thin (5'8", 118 pounds this morning) but I'm one of those thin people that isn't too healthy. I eat crappy and either too much or not enough, I find excuses not to work out as much as I should and I like my drinks. UGH! Why can I not find the inspiration I need!!!! I'm SO frustrated! I know I would feel SO much better if I just took better care of myself!  :P
Anyway, on a positive note I have cut the drinking waaaaaaaaay back. Maybe 1 drink a night and not even every night anymore. Use to be like 3 drinks a night. I'd like to think I'm going to walk/run on the tread mill later...hopefully I can drag my ass down to the basement and actually do it  ;)

It's so hot all my students want morning classes, so I got up at 7 this morning, took my thyroid meds and went out for a walk before breakfast. It took me 45 min to do less than I usually do in 30, but I figure, with no food in my system, I was OK. Got home in time for a shower before my 9.00 session. Worked straight through till 1.30. Then after lunch, the joys (not) of ironing.

This is the woman who used to get up at 9 or after. I've decided to keep getting up at 7 even when it's dark out in the winter. I don't have to go out walking at that time when it's cold but I can get things done then.

Way to go Yabbit. ;)b

I almost always get up at 6:00 or 7:00 whether I have to or not.  I guess I am a morning person.  Even when my insomnia is bad I automatically get up early.  I enjoy the alone and quiet of it I think.

Another way you are reaping the benefits of no otc sleepy meds.

I keep hoping that sleeping less and doing more will result in burning off pounds, but apparently not so far. But I keep going. I promised Di's Cali, and I could never break my word to a dog. :)>>>

Just curious ladies, how tall are you?  A lot of you weigh what I would consider very thin, e.g. 109 pounds.  I'm 172cm and 62 kg (136 lb) and my BMI is about 21- people tell me I am skinny.  I do hope that some of you are short rather than freakishly thin and still wanting to lose more weight..  Healthy is much more attractive then catwalk-model wafer-thin.

I myself am 168 cm or 171, depending on which day it is (scale sensor!) and weigh 90 kg. Which is at least 10kg too much. People say I carry it well, I don't "look" fat, if you don't look at my legs. But my doctors all tell me to lose. They all tell me to get down to 75 kg, which I don't think will happen given my age and thyroid disease. If I get down to 80 again I'll be pleased. Delighted.

don't worry, some of us are short!  i'm 5'3" (dunno how many cm that is...152.4?) and weigh 118 pounds.  that's about as normal as you can get.  my bmi is 20, i think.  or 21.  i can't remember.  people tell me i'm skinny too, but i'm really just very normal (with most people in our country being overweight/obese right now, i guess i do look thinner than some).

btw as for me and my goals, they just aren't happening.  i've started doing jumping jacks.  sporadically.  last night i danced around my living room.  i haven't lost any weight.  haven't gained any weight, except for fluctuations (i go between 117-120 generally).  i really would like to get to 115 and stay there, but i just eat too damn much to make it happen.  i feel good though.  i just wish i would exercise more.

maybe once it cools down i'll start going for walks after work.

I am 5'8", which is about 173 cm if I did the math right and I weight 120 pounds or 54 kg (i think)....BMI of 18 (borderline under wieght). I would be okay with gaining a little, really I just need to be more healthy.....
I did workout more this week! Balance ball, weights and pilates, so that's good. Now I just need to find time/energy to throw some cardio in there. I've also been drinking less and going to bed earlier, I think that helps with the energy  ;)b

My weight wouldn't be considered thin at any height.  I'm 5'7" and 169 lbs.

I finally lost another pound, which is very hard to do without exercise.  I'm going to contribute the loss to eating raw yesterday....greens in.....greens out!! ;D  I think I will eat raw through the weekend.

I'm 5'2 (so super short) and 111.5 lbs (as of August 7) with a BMI of 20.4 and I can say for the first time that I finally look and feel "thin". Since I went raw 9 days ago my body has just detoxed out and snapped back into a shape I can recognize as being "skinny". This is a really big deal for me to say that. And! And! And! If I lose just 1.5 more lbs I will be able to say that I have officially lost 100 lbs!!! I want to lose it just so I know I have accomplished that huge goal!!!

Just for the record, some of us are trying to maintain/gain weight on this thread as well. I am 5'2"/157.5 cm and 109lbs/7.79 stones (I've gained some weight and seem to be keeping it on!! YAY!!) and my BMI is 19.9. I'm short, skinny, yet have hips and curves which really gives my body a strange look when I'm below 112 lbs. I hope you're not seeing those of us wanting to gain reporting in and assuming we're trying to lose weight we don't have.
