Could I be missing something?
Recently I've been feeling really tired, which could be explained by almost a week without my thyroid medicine (which I am back on now). I missed it for about 5 days, but have been back on for three. But I'm also feeling very weak, something that I've not associated with my thyroid before. I've had this feeling before, and it usually takes a few weeks to feel back to normal. I don't want to just wait for things to work themselves out.
I've consciously been making more time in my diet for fresh fruits and veggies. I've been sleeping enough. I still feel weak all the time. By testing, I know that my blood sugar is fine, but I liken how I'm feeling now to how I feel when my blood sugar is too low.
My central question to you, the all-knowing vegans, is: what can I be missing?
Unhelpful, but, this is me. Since... March.
Prior to the beginning of this year I'd get by on less than six hours sleep, almost always, didn't exercise a whole heap and while not eating unhealthily, didn't make sure I got all the necessary nutrients etc.
But this year I've been sleeping minimum eight hours a night , going to the gym, and working on eating more grains/beans/nuts rather than just veges. And I'm tired as all get out. Like, painfully, quality-of-life-decreasing tired.
So, if you figure out what you're missing, let me know, I might be missing it too! : )
If i skip my thyroid meds, my body goes nuts! That would be where my bet lies.
We can't really tell what you are missing without looking at your diet. What's typical for you? Also, are you doing more/less activity now? Could it be band taking a toll?
See, that's what I'm not understanding. I've been using the MyPyramid tracker, and except for milk, I'm pretty much on par for everything, all the nutrients and stuff.
How's your diabetes, sis?
What do you eat for protein? Are you a purist who just does beans and tofu and veggies, or do you eat the more "commercial" fake meats (like morningstar and boca). Could be that you are deficient in B12, or iron or zinc, or another B vitamin. Try popping a multivitamin for a few days if you aren't already and see if that makes you feel any better.
How's your liquid intake? Are you consuming more caffeine than usual? Caffeine can SERIOUSLY dehydrate you!! A lot of the time, when I'm unexplainably tired, I'll think about what I've eaten/drunk....and realize I haven't had a sip of water for at least 3 hours.....A few minutes after drinking a large glass of water, I'll find that I feel much better.
As someone who takes thyroid medicine I'm inclined to agree with fufuberry, that the thyroid meds are your most likely culprit. More than a couple of days without my meds would put me in a coma. It takes more than a couple of days to get your TSH level straightened out when you've been off your meds for several consecutive days.
Also look into your iron. Young women are often just slightly anemic, but together with your blood-sugar and thyroid issues, that can be enough to make you seriously tired.
