Raw Chit-Chat!

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!

I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?

Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?

OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

I was at Borders today, and was looking at cookbooks(because I'm addicted, I don't even use them that much), and saw a pretty cool raw one called...Ani's Raw? I think, dang. Anyway, a lot of the recipes looked really good, and many didn't use a dehydrator.

Ani's looks great--I always feel like such a raw-slacker when I look at her (and the other un-cook books!) They make stuff look so good and easy--wish I know how they did it *lol* I'm just proud of my simple dressing I concocted today *lol*

I've seen that book. It kind of turned me off that she thinks so much of herself and has a zillion pictures of herself instead of food. Actually, not just kind of turned me off. She's waaay too self-satisfied. She doesn't deserve your money, and you don't need her book!

Yeah..Ani does have a lot of pics of herself...I was lookingat another raw book...can't think of who it was a t the time--but it was a guy and he was the same way--every pic was of him orgasmicly enjoying his own food--it was kinda creepy! Maybe raw people are really concieted? I hope not...I don't want to be like that...

Oh yeah--here are 400 pics of me eating my food...

Hee! Hee! Love the chewing bunny. I think chefs are conceited, although I don't know any raw foodists, so who knows?

Come on down, guys!!  Winter is the very best time to be in Florida!  I found out from Ray this morning that the open market I stumbled across is every Saturday!  I'm totally doing the snoopy dance now!  I thought it might just have been a one weekend event thing.

Capture you are so smart!  It didn't occur to me that the sweet chile sauce would make a good raw chili base, but you're right....it would.  I think I'll have to try that.

I'm totally loving my new raw book....so many recipes and so much information.  I highly recommend it.
Since I found already sprouted chickpeas yesterday, I think I'm going to make the triple omega dip from Quintess's book today.

New recipe for the day!

White Asapamole on Avocado-Flax Tostada! Nom!

I'll submit the recipe for this later today!

Has a nice, fresh, salsa flavor with a mild asparagus taste to it!! Really good and easy to modify to your level of heat, savory or sweet!

Storm she is is right. Sweet chile sauce is what I made (last week) for the first time as an experiment. I had used Naga Morich instead of usual
least hot Bydgi. Result was wonderful. I really loved new avatar of NJ in sweet base. I would be making more of it next time.
Presently enjoying Death sauce I made using NJ and Habs .

You'd better!  ;)

I really don't know what to do about submitting my raw recipes...the ones I have sent have never shown up.  I thought about resubmitting them since it has been a few months, but I'm not sure if that's really a good idea.  I just don't know whether they "fell between the cracks" or whether Yvette has a giant backlog she just can't get to.  I saw your raw nori rolls went up....I wish I liked nori.  I've tried really hard to like sea vegetables but I simply don't.  :(

I mentioned Ani Phyo a dozen or so pages ago.
Her videos get you motivated and are simple. You Tube has all of them.
I have her raw book also but you don't really need it most of the receipees are online.

Ok I am enjoying a green bean, olive salad with Chipolte Lime dressing
Lots of carrots and Spanish onions also
these jalapeños I got are real good nice peppery taste to them.

Forgot to mention I received a new food processor today courtesy of nice gal on freecycle.
It looks brand new and I am so excited to use it.  :)>>>
Will use it tomorrow.

Want to try a few new things in the dehydrator also.

Anyone in here figure out how to make the bars yet? Like the Lara bars.
I love them just they are to expensive to keep buying.

Storm--My nori recipe went up right after submitting it--there was no review process for it, so maybe vegweb is posting recipes like goneraw now? W/o review? Or maybe mine was a fluke? I don't know--but it would be worth it for you to try resubmitting one and see if it goes up!

Joe--I think making the bars would be easy--especially like larabars--a lot of them only have 4 or 5 ingredients, you could try processing up the same ingredients on your fav bar and then molding them and setting them to dehydrate--I really don't think there is any secret to it, beside the exat quanties of each ingredient--play around with it, I bet you will come up with some thing really yummy!

I start back at school tomorrow...*sigh* don't really want to start--but as a treat I am going up to the raw restaurant near by with my friend who is applying at Pasado's with me!!! We are going to work out logistics over raw tacos! yeah!

I still haven't put up that recipe...I'll get to it I promise!!!

My brain is totally non-functional today.  Gotta hit Whole Foods later for some arugula and strawberries.  One can never have too many strawberries.

I have a spaghetti squash...any ideas as to what to do with it? Though maybe I would just make noodles out of it...but that seems so boring--open to suggestions!

All I've ever done is noodle them.  I went to goneraw and all they had for spaghetti squash was noodles.  :(

So, here's an interesting development with regards to raw.  When I started the rawliday I had a bad flu.  Generally I take two arthritis medications every week: Enbrel and methotrexate.  Enbrel works by inhibiting my immune system to prevent my body from "attacking itself".  With my immunity lowered, it also means I catch every cootie that comes along, so when I do get sick I immediately quit giving myself the Enbrel shots until I get better.  Basically, I'm damned if I take it and I'm damned if I don't.
So, since I was sick I didn't give myself the shot.  I skipped it the first two weeks of the rawliday and noticed that the pain didn't return, like it usually does.  So I skipped it a third week and also dropped the methotrexate....and then a fourth and a fifth......I'm now into week 7 with no shot, week 5 with no methotrexate, and I still have no pain.  Could it really be that simple?

Storm, that's awesome! I actually have heard that raw is good for arthritis, as well as eat to live. That is amazing. I wonder if it would help me not get cold sores? I have them all over half my face, sexy, I know. Grrr!I think I'm going to try Ani's save the salmon burgers. She gives directions for using an oven instead of a dehydrator. I wonder if any of my family would try them? Maybe my daughter. Has anyone else made them?

I have officially switched my dietary preference to "Raw Foodist"! I'm feeling really good about the status change :) Makes me feel more accountable to my diet if I am labeling myself as Raw! **sweet** I feel like I fall down a lot when it comes to raw--going vegan was just too easy--I've never had any weak moments for cheese or binged on ice cream or anything--but raw is my Everest! The last month has been really difficult and I have caved for cooked foods more then I would like to say--but I am feeling really back on track with the New Year and all!

Also--I have gained 6 lbs! I am trying really hard to be accepting of them and not let my ED take them away from me...but you know...it's hard--I'm just proud of myself for not doing anything drastic to re-lose them. Feeling good and happy (for a change!)

Love ya raw buddies--thanks for all of your support!!!  :)>>> :)>>>

For me January is up and down with the percentage of raw food.
Once I deplete what I have here I will back up there with everyone else.

I have allot of the cookable food boxed up. That way if I make it to the Family Center Wednesday I can bring it with me.

Just with the vegan diet I have managed to reverse health problems.
No faith in Western Medicine.
Tomorrow I have to fast getting more blood work done. Weird thing is I could not get in the morning. Have to wait till 3 PM to get it done.
I told them I was predominately on a raw vegan diet so they just said to fast for 6 hours before hand.
Make sure I don't eat any fatty foods? Guess no peanut butter for a day then.

capture - i just want to let you know that you totally inspire me and i've been watching your "process" for a while. although you have rough patches, you always come back and it really sounds like your body is gonna "settle in" where it is comfy. raw and foxy!

Awww! thank you BP! That's really sweet of you to say :) I really hope I've hit my limit of rought patches for the fore seeable future--I am feeling like I am on a lot firmer ground! <3 <3
