Weird Illness-like Thing
For the last couple of days, I've been feeling lightheaded and getting dizzy spells. I feel like I need to eat something all day, but when I eat I get very nauseous and end up with heartburn. I've been having hot flashes here and there, accompanied by the dizziness. It feels like I literally turn green, you know? Like all the blood drains out of my head, and my arms and legs get heavy.
No, I am not pregnant. I don't think I qualify for immaculate conception.
I don't think my diet has changed much recently.
I have been getting up much earlier than usual, but I've been going to bed early also. I'm getting a good 7-9 hours of sleep.
I just started back to college, and the weather outside is around 40 degrees while the classrooms must be at least 75 degrees. If the severe temperature change every hour and a half isn't the cause, it can't help. Damn old buildings.
Yes, I have been taking my vitamins. However, sometimes I wonder if they are making it worse. The vitamins always make me nauseous if I take them on an empty stomach, but I've been taking them after eating a bowl of oatmeal and a banana.
This has been going on for about 3 days, and I don't feel like I'm getting any better. I haven't actually thrown up yet, but I keep feeling like I will. It's not fun. Any ideas on what it could be or how to feel better faster?
I know that my mom has had problems with having too much iron in her blood, shes not allowed to give blood because of it. Though, i think i'm lacking in iron, i need to get back to eating things rich in it (i've been neglecting that lately)

My father has that too. I think the point is it's best to get iron from foods containing it, as opposed to supplements, so you don't take too much. Something about the iron oxidizing in the blood vessels when there is too much of it.
Too much iron can give you heart probs and it can increase your chance for stroke.
and you need a week really, for supplements to take effect.
Best to get checked, b/c too high or too low iron levels are BAD news! and you dont know *why* it is that you are anemic...there can be a hormonal issue underlying.
I hope its simple, i just got a transfusion this past week myself, so i know how horrible it feels to be anemic. ugh.
My cousin has some kind of super-anemia and has been getting transfusions. I've never had too many issues with it. Sometimes I get tired easily, and I can't give blood. But other than that, it's been very mild. Hopefully this isn't a permanent turn for the worse or anything.
Diagnosis: Severe Anemia
Looks like it may even be hereditary (see above post about cousin). I have an appointment with a hematologist on Tuesday. :-[

Well if it's hereditary it has nothing to do with being a veg*n, "bad" or otherwise. It's not Jeana, it's your genes! :)>>>
Yeah, but I'm still worried because it's way worse than I expected (I thought it would be "mild" and they'd say "eat your veggies," not "severe" and they said "You may need blood transfusions.")
Also, if they want to put me on a special diet, I'll have to say "Okay, great! I don't eat meat. No problem, right?"
And my boyfriend is all worried and thinks that I should eat meat if the doctor tells me I have to. Hopefully he and I don't have to have THAT discussion (he just really wants me better, no matter what it takes).
Now I just have to be miserable (headaches and fatigue) and wait for Tuesday to get these tests done... so between now and then I have to try not to worry about what I don't know.
Dont freak jeana... ive been dealing w/ anemia (not genetic) for a long while now, and only once did they mention eating meat...its not actually a guaranteed cure for even diet related anemia.
If its genetic, it may have to do w/ intrinsic factor? Diet wont affect it so much, but i know some pple get injections. Also, there are iron IV treatments, if its really bad, but they do come w/ side effects. And if there is a hormonal component to your anemia, there are injections for that, which compel your body to produce more red cells.
I just had a transfusion myself, which skeeved me out, but was pretty harmless. I have to get rechecked to see how much it helped.
there is great iron rich water, called Spatone (www.spatone.com) which is often used for pple on chemo and w/ anemia. it works very well, i hear.
