so the BF and i will be living together for about a week starting Friday night (house sitting) and he wants to watch a movie. All the movies i have, we have watched. And even though i'm 22 i am still a child at heart and love all the animated and disney stuff, but he is not for that, even though he's 21... (he acts like he's 40 already jeez... men... ::) )
has anyone seen any DVD movies that they really loved lately? i haven't seen anything good come out lately that i would wanna watch except Music & Lyrics but he kinda sneered at that suggestion, and the same reaction when i suggested Pan's Labyrinth.
so any suggestions? thanks in advance (cuz i gotta go to work now lol)
we ended up wattching X2. i've seen all 3 xmen movies but for some reason my aunt had x2 and x3 but not the first one and i didnt feel like driving all the way home to get the first one, which was kinda boring if i remember correctly (but who knows, it was a while ago when i last saw it)
it was a good thing we found something though because we had bad storms that knocked out the cable.
Some of my favorites: City of Lost Children, Harold and Maude, Amelie, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth... :)
I haven't dared to watch City of Lost Children because it's so well made and I'm such a lightweight! Things stay in my head and bother me...the last time DH was out at a business function that went late into the night I was finishing "Wuthering Heights" and the description of finding Heathcliff's body always scares me to death, let alone at 1 AM when I'm alone in the house...he came home and ALL the lights in the apartment were on as well as the TV AND the radio! ::)

City of Lost Children isn't a scary movie or anything. Well, I guess I could see how it could be disturbing. I hope you watch it though because it's beautiful and brilliant. :)
Has anyone seen last yr's "Beowulf and Grendel"? The copy I borrowed had no subtitles and for once I could have used them. The photography was great but they played fast and loose with the story and the cutting was confusing. If you haven't read it, you won't get it, and if you have, you won't recognise it. Any other opinions?
I honestly could not understand ONE WORD they were saying throughout the whole entire movie (no subtitles either). I started to give up about half way through, and just decided to enjoy watching Gerard Butler instead. I really looked forward to seeing this movie, too. I like Stellan Skarsgard. Oh well.
Shaolin, I saw this movie on DVD in a shop and guess what--IT HAS NO SUBTITLES!! Freak show!! I think maybe the tech staff couldn't understand it either! But surely they could work from a script??
I have not seen Beowulf yet because it was not released in my local indie theatre. I have heard that it's really confusing and not very good, so I've put it on the backburner on my netflix to so many other 'must-see' films.
ummm hostel 2 anyone? come one now, we are talking about a work of cinematic genius here!!!
ok i'm totally kidding.
i recently saw Paris Je T'aime and loved it
Harold and Maude
This is one of my all-time favorite movies! :)

I saw this and loved it as well. I'm going to see Killer of Sheep and Brand Upon the Brain this week. I will report back to this thread and give my reviews of these films.
I watched Smokin' Aces last night. It had quite a few really funny scenes/lines. And many over-the-top parts as well. And plenty of violent scenes. My main concern is that Jeremy Piven used the dreaded "j" word...twice. :P I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who doesn't like violent movies. If you like Pulp Fiction, you'll probably like this movie. If you rent it, watch the outtakes--Ray Liotta is just so weird in real life, which of course makes me like him even more.

I love love love love love La Strada! Rashomon, Vertigo and 400 Blows are also very nice selections! I would definitely add The Bicycle Thief and Breathless to that list though.
I just saw Evan All Mighty! My heart filled with joy so often and so big that I thought I might burst and float up to heaven. Animal lover and God lover that I am!
Looking for a movie thread... found this one and decided to post..
I just watched Lie to Me (according to watch-movies-links) also known as Fling.
Its was really good (to my standards) about a couple in an open-relationship who start to fall for other people...
Very nice! Recommend to anyone who finds that interesting, or having dealt with that!
The bf and I watched Persepolis a little while ago. The best movie I've seen in awhile, with a bit of education and good despite my initial weariness from watching an animated french film. Its funny, kept our attention and we're definitely not 'movie' people.

I saw the first Hostel and had to get out to throw up at some point because I'm a wuss, plus I shouldn't drink those big tubs of sugar juice that they call fruit punch.
Paris Je t'aime though, J'adore!
Have you seen Two Days in Paris ? Funny and sweet... I recommend it!
I watched "The Crying Game" for the first time last night in quite awhile. Great movie if you haven't seen it. Very touching too in a lot of ways. I'm a huge Forest Whitaker fan and Stephen Rea was amazing in this too. I highly recommend it.
So many good movies mentioned here, I LOVED "The crying game", Persepolis and just recently "The visitor".
I just watched "The color of Paradise" and it was wonderful. It is an iranian movie about a young blind boy who is almost abandoned by his father, because the father thinks it will hurt his chances of remarrying. The scenery in this movie is amazing, I never knew Iran was so beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Monty Python and the search for the Holy Grail or anything by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl etc)
