Why to be vegetarian site with sources?

One of my friends (very very spiritual) said to me uesterday, 'I've been praying about going vegetarian again.'  Bwahahaha!  I told him we'll talk.

I love this site:
http://www.flex.com/~jai/articles/101.html
but it has no sources to back it up, and therefore not really as convincing as I need right now.  The parts about hungry people especially, saving the enviornment, feeding those that could be fed with that grain, etc, are what is going to sway my friend, with the animal rights issue being more of an afterthought.  I also want to avoid any weird health related sites and anything too emotive or propaganda like (you know you've seen it...)

Got any good sites?  I am already going to send him this, as well as a link to Earthlings for good measure.

i like that.
that's neat.

Here's a few I can think of:

Farm Sanctuary
www.farmsanctuary.org

The PCRM
www.pcrm.org

In Defense of Animals
www.idausa.org/

The Humane Farming Assoc.
www.hfa.org/about/index.html

Hope these help! :)

Oh yeah....why not send him here to look at all the great recipes/food he can eat without animals having to suffer. Let him know he won't have to live on salad. veggie dogs, and veggie burgers. ;)

If your friend is a Christian, point him to Daniel chapter 1. This was first reading this morning (read by yours truly). The passage seems to indicate that being vegetarian is what made Daniel and his friends healthier, handsomer, stronger and smarter than the other hostages.  It was after several years as a veggie (probably vegan, given kosher) at the Babylonian court that Daniel became prime minister and a very influential man.

the vivavegie society in NYC has a pamphlet entitled 101 reasons I'm a vegetarian

She lists sources to back up all the reasons.

I don't know if it is available online.

I love the poster on the VV site that says "Eating meat is soooo 20th century.!"

Stars, looks like all those stats came right out of "Diet for a New America" by John Robbins.  I don't know if your friend would want to read a book about the topic, but if so, I highly recommend that book.  It is very well written with lots of sources.
