NVR: For the knitters out there...

So, since becoming vegan, I've become felting-deprived. I used to make bags, hats, bowls, etc. out of felted wool yarn; however, I have yet to find vegan alternatives suitable for felting--are there any, or do I need to find a new knitting outlet?

How'd it go, est?

I did 15 stiches wide with #5 needles and I'm 17 inches of length into my scarf.  I'm going to undo the whole thing because I'm now pretty certain I only want it 8 stiches wide.

Well, first of all, my friend gave me the needles and I have no clue what # they are...I've got so much to learn.  I did find lots of info on youtube, but decided to keep going at what I had started a while back.  I didnt think I'd remember how to do the basic stitching but it came back to me.  Yay!!!

I was gonna make a practice scarf out of this 'thing' I started knitting.  It started out with 15 stitches wide and it ended up past 26 wide.  I figured out my mistake though.  So I,m gonna keep practicing until I run out of yarn... How do you you undo it h_h ?  Didnt know you could.  Like I said, I've got so much to learn, but it's so much fun and it calms me down. :)>>>

I was at Salvation Army once and they were selling a vat o' needles for five cents a pair, so I bought them all.  #5s are medium-ish.  I only know they are #5s because it's stamped at the end of the needle.

To rip out stiches, it's like undoing a slip knot.  Let the loops fall from your needle and pull.  They come out.  You can take out just one row and rethread your needle through the lower row's loops, or you can take apart your whole project.

This is the skinny, ribbed, going-to-be-super-long scarf I'm working on:

There are a lot of ways to cast on.  I started with another way, but after I started over, I decided to make a scarf with ribbing down the middle.  There are a lot of ways to cast on with both knit and pearl stiches, but some were hard.  I found this combination worked well and was easy.

Knit cast on:

Pearl cast on:

And this video had helpful hints about knowing whether I'm on a knit or pearl stitch:

h_h, the first video about knit cast-on is the one I looked at last night.  But thanks for the other ones.  I'll look at them.  I could use some info especially since I only know one way to knit...boring! :-[
I'm going to try to undo most of my project now.. I'll let you know how it goes. (not that I'll ever wear mine, I hate the color, but it's ok for practice)

There are a bunch of easier ways to cast on that I would use for straight knitting.  I'm not sure where I'd use the method in the videos I posted unless I doing a ribbed pattern and starting with both knit and pearl.

I'm happy there's someone at the beginning stages with me.

You should make feet on them. I think. More functional? Maybe that's just me thinking about the cold. They are cute. I have some pregan slipper things that are similar, but they have leather on the bottoms.  :-\

Aren't they?  I saw them and thought MUST MAKE.

AC, no bottoms.  I just want them for the cute factor.  Stop being practical.

I took this into consideration, but you said "around the house." I guess you did say "and such." Feets could be cute..

Aww, move to CT and I can teach you how to make cables!  And then we can knit entire outfits for ourselves together!  With hats and sweaters and legwarmers.
