Boot Camp (Let's make this a thread on accountability)

OK, I am going to measure and weigh myself on Saturday.  For those of you that said some of your summer goals were to lose weight and get fit....hope you will join this thread.

Not that I am going to post my weight and measurements but maybe I need to be accountable.

Sooooooo... I will make a comment on Saturday.  Then every Saturday, I am going to say weight lost and inches lost. (remember that if you gain muscle the scale will not move or go up.  Use a tape measure)

I truly am going to put myself through boot camp.  The program I have been watching on TV has shown that in 6 weeks with real effort, one can make a huge difference.

As well, I am going to comment each Saturday on how am reaching the goals I stated for the summer.

We all stated goals for the summer.  Let us all be accountable.  Some we will attain, some we may fall short on but lets all support each other.

When the fall officially starts (when the h*ll is that?), we can state what we actually achieved.

Sometimes our cyber friends are our best friends.  We are non judgemental and hugely supportive.

I know for me, the hugest thing is quitting smoking.

Next, getting fit and healthy.  One of my goals is to walk and hike with Cali more.  That will fall in to the get fit and healthy boot camp thing.

One was to spend more time with Biko.  I clip his wings in the summer, he prefers to walk anyway.  I will start taking him to the park on my walks with Cali.  That way he can feel he is a part of my life.

Spending more time with my BF.  He is hugely busy, I am hugely busy.  This is going to be a tough one.

De-cluttering....I am ready.  I want it done and I want it done now. I am finally so sick of the mess that I want to do it,  Get it done!

So guys, lets have a huge reach your summer goals support group.  No better place than this board.

Veg on...

yesss.  those songs take me back.  : )

i found this while looking for that dance exercise video someone mentioned a while ago.  i still cant figure out what it was.  all i remember is that it had some sexy girls and alright music.  eek.  that doesnt help much.

now to figure out how to hook my computer up to the tv.... hmm.

eta:  my flab has gone down significantly already!!!!  i only have a little pinch of flab rather than a handful.  so yay!

Anyone have any advice on becoming a morning workout person? I can never seem to get it done. I figured now is a good time to start because, even when summer session is going on, I rarely if ever have anything before about 11AM, so an 8:30 workout is fine.

I went today and did intervals on the eliptical, and felt way too winded afterwards. I have no excuse other than I've been bad about the gym.

i just started going to the gym in the mornings too!!  now that work is over for the summer.  my schedule is to wake up with my boyfriend, eat breakfast, get dressed and go to the gym when michael leaves for work.  getting ready in the morning usually takes me 30 minutes anyways, which is the minimum of time you can have between eating and exercising.  i dont drink any coffee before going to the gym, i save that for afterwards.

i like having a routine so that it just becomes natural.  wake up, eat, brush teeth, put on gym clothes, get in car, go to gym... haha.

I can't wait to do morning gym time this summer.  I love it.  I used to do it in college and it was so nice and peaceful.  I'm thinking of going tomorrow morning but I'd need to get up at five.  Not TOO bad if i can get to bed by nine or ten.

i did my 3 pilates dvds again today - yay 2 days in a row!  tomorrow i'll be working all day which means standing on my feet, plus a bike ride there and back, so maybe my work days will be my weight lifting days..

If I didn't have to be at work so dang early - 6:45, I would work out in the AM, but I go after work.

Day #6 is going well.  I've stuck with the program for six days, which is not like me because usually I cave.

I'm not sure what to do because tomorrow a doctor is buying me and the whole floor lunch.  I'm hoping they won't notice that I'm not eating.    Junk food at work has always been a downfall.

Day #7 starts today.

So I go to Publix last night to get some carrots for the carrot hashbrowns that I kept seeing on this sight (yummy) and get on the scale and it says I lost seven pounds???????  I'm having a hard time beliving that.  My weigh-in was the morning after a very fatty salty meal the night before, so it's probably all water, or I was a little dry after working out....but still I feel like I'm on the right track and lost some weight.  I'll check for accuracy again.  But I'm happy....now the challenge is to keep loosing and keep it off for good.

Did 40 minutes of cardio and weights yesterday.  Today, depending on how I feel I'll do just cardio or take a day off.

Good news: I lost three pounds this week.

Bad news: Getting off the refined sugars/junk food has made me the biggest bitch, no matter how much I run to blow off steam. I feel bad for my poor boyfriend.

haha i just reliped to your thread about this.  i was bitchy towards my boyfriend too when i had to cut out sugars, mostly because of the headaches and whining about missing sugar, but he understood that it was for health reasons and sucked it up.  remind him that you'll be back to normal, even better than normal in just a couple of more days.

as for my keeping track, i've been going to the gym every day for an hour, doing mostly cardio and one or two ab exercises, i keep going back and forth between 114 and 116, one day i'm up the next i'm down.  whatever.  i fit into a size smaller pants.  so yay.

Day #8 today.  Day seven wasn't a good day.  Not a bad day, just off plan.  Today I went to the gym did 40 of cardio and weights.  Did not do Vega shakes but a large raw salad and veggie sushi rolls.  Tonight it's dinner out, but I'll try to be good, but no promises.

Offical weight loss for the 7 days is 4 pounds.  I didn't trust the seven pounds but four sounds about right.  w00t!

lolkrys, glad to hear that the bitchiness is better.  I certainly don't think I could do without fruit.  In fact I think my fruit intake has jumped.

Slept to late to go to the gym before church today....had some insomnia issues over a decision I'm trying to make.  I ate one of those huge Chipolte burrito thingies along with chips and guac last night, so I'm feeling full.  Hope to stick with the plan the rest of the week.

Hey everyone!

I'm so proud--you're all doing great!

I worked out five days last week--whee! Two were at the gym doing elliptical intervals (2 minutes low, 2 minutes high, adjusting resistance), one was riding around the neighborhood in my BRAND NEW BIKE (well, new to me--got it used and saved 1/3 on the cost). The past two days have been shredding and yoga.

SO, here is my current workout plan. At very least I want to shred and do yoga every day. The yoga doesn't always have to be fast (like ashtanga)--I did a yin yoga sequence on Saturday night and it was great. But just enough to stretch and keep my mood good. Hopefully I can also do some extra cardio during those times. After my 30 days of shredding I'll go back to my regularly scheduled weight workouts.

Eating has been pretty good lately too. I'm trying to get back on an Eat-to-Live sort of diet. Lots of whole grains instead of pasta, and a ton of veggies both raw and cooked. (Although today I couldn't pass up the veggie burger and beer!)

yes i'm quoting myself.

I did this hip hop dance exercise thing yesterday.  holy shit.  its 70 minutes long, i had to stop after 20 because i was absolutely beat.  luckily I have it rented for a whole month, only 2$ for a whole month of this video!!  it is soo much fun.  i think what tired me out is that i am not a dancer, this is my first dance lesson (apart from my dance classes as a 4 year old) so during all of the rests, i kept practicing the moves.

anyways.  i highly recommend this site for fun relatively cheap dancey exercises.

how long does it take to see a change?  I still fit into my shorts that are one size smaller than i normally wear, but I haven't lost any weight and I can still grab a big hunk of flab around my belly and sides.  that's what I want to have gone and I only have 11 more days until my vacation!  i might be getting my period soon, someone said that that can add some weight, how much?  I want to know that my daily workouts are actually doing something.

eta:  how important is rest, like taking a day off of exercising.  or is it unnecessary if you are feeling up to exercising every day?

Stuck to the plan today, but didn't really over the weekend and really blew it yesterday.  I've been busy applying and getting ready to interview for a new position with my new employer.  I'm interviewing with three people tomorrow and another interview with other people next week sometime.  I feel like I'm interviewing for a position with the CIA...sheesh.  Anyway, just thought I would try to stay accountable.

Out of order here, but:

1. I would go by how your body feels. If you're up for it every day I would do it (so long as nothing is hurting you!), but if you're really fighting to do it let yourself rest. One big recommendation I see that would be good is to build in some easier days into your schedule. Yoga, a long walk, etc. is a way to keep going but get some rest as well... if you think you need it.

2. Your period can definitely affect your weight. Personally, I gain about 5 pounds and notice it most around my belly. But everyone's different.

3. If you're fitting into smaller pants that's definitely a sign of progress! I find for me there's an order that I gain weight in, and I lose weight in the reverse order. (For example, at my heaviest I find myself gaining weight around my bustline, but that's the first to lose as well.) If you're losing pants sizes it sounds like you're losing inches, and it just might take a little more time for those results to get to your belly in the way you want. But it sounds like you're still goign in the right direction for your vacation!

Stuck to the plan.  No exercise today because I'm going bowling tonight and no time.  Starting to loose a little of my enthusiam, so gotta stick with it.
