Fasting

I’m going to be going on a fast in about two weeks for seven days. This will be my first ever fasting experience. I know that there are different types of fasting out there such as the raw fast, the liquid fast and the water fast. I was wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences (what was it like, which was simplest, which would you recommend for a first timer, what should I expect?) Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. (for the liquid or raw fast, recipes would be appriciated also) :smileside:
i think if you are going to do something for the first time for seven days (unless it is as benign as a raw foods fast), you should really talk to your doctor about it (or a doctor who is supportive of these types of endeavors if yours is not). i would recommend you don't do more than a raw foods "fast" for your first time. on the chit-chat board there is a thread called "raw chit-chat" that you can get tons of resources from. you can also get a lot of resources from the raw recipes on this site and goneraw.com
good luck!

I highly recommend reading "Fasting and Eating For Health" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I read it last summer and did a water fast following his advice. I loved it and hope to do it again.
A bit of advice (some of which is probably obvious)...
Make sure you have plenty of resting time. I'm a teacher and did the fast during the summer when I didn't have work. I felt "good" but I lost energy very quickly by like day 3-4.
Meditate...don't watch tv. The only thing you will see is food commercials. hehe.
And someone gave me this advice before I fasted...it is very important to know exactly why you are fasting. It can become a very spiritual thing. I found it easier when I concentrated on that aspect...cleansing the metaphorical crap out of my body through meditation while giving my physical body a break at the same time. Does that make sense?
I don't really know why have decided to fast...I believe there are many reasons. There are several books/doctors that are very knowledgeable. Check them out. You can totally do it safely if you know your stuff!
I hope this has been somewhat helpful.
:flower:
P.S. break your fast with watermelon. it will taste like the best thing you've ever eaten in your entire life :)

That makes perfect sense actually. It's pretty much exactly why I want to do this. I want to cleanse my body and mind of all the "crap". I'll be on vacation from work for 9 days so thats when I planned to do it, the first 5-7. I'll definitely check out the book you reccomended and thanks for the watermelon idea.
